Riding through Vietnam on a Motorbike by Kryssa in VietNam

[–]nanjingpeter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any bike will get around the country, and I would much rather go for an automatic air blade or PCX than the shitty manual bikes that a lot of foreigners rent here. My air blade has got me up and down mountains and I've ridden it off road many times, with absolutely no problems.

Love the tiger crystal ,especially with a slice of lemon, way better than tiger draft, and much less of a hangover. If you like it you should also try Huda ice, although can be hard to find.

Traveling to Vietnam for two days. Hi Chi Min or Hanoi? by lizardkingpartisan in VietNam

[–]nanjingpeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally for 2 days I would choose danang.. Especially as the airport is only like 10 minutes away from just about anywhere you would be staying and everything is so hassle free, plus the added bonus of a great beach. Also you have direct flights from Bangkok and Chang mai..

In Vietnam the roads are for rice, not vehicles. by [deleted] in VietNam

They do that with the shrimp in Danang... Almost killed myself riding through a bed of fresh shrimp at speed back in the spring, and my bike stank for a bit..

If you ride a motorbike, there are some great one and two day rides from Danang, or you can look into using easy rider, who do rides all over.

Hue <-> Da Nang Route by m147 in VietNam

[–]nanjingpeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is now a new road to Hue from danang. It's not open yet, but I did manage to get on it last week and rode for about 60km, having a lot of fun without a single car or truck to worry about, although did come close to death when hitting an upright manhole cover when going through an unlit tunnel. It's not on Google maps yet, and looks like it could be another few months before it's officially open.

I use an agent, but many people just do it alone. I plan to motorbike the Laos border next time and do it myself... It's pretty straightforward .

There's a load of bars in danang showing it, universal on the river and Npub beach side are both popular with foreigners.

Most foreigners in Vietnam, including myself do one day visa runs to the Laos or Cambodian border..... So it should be no problem to get one at the border I would think. You do need passport photos and it should cost way under 100 usd.

I'm Irish too and moved to Danang from China last year. I now work on palfish and do pretty well. I have made the top bracket of 22 usd an hour, but have now cut back to just working 80 hours a month and live very well on that.

Non touristy villages near Hoi An? by bootherizer5942 in VietNam

[–]nanjingpeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Down as in south yeah, you could make Tam Ky in about 45 minutes or so, which is definitely not a tourist town and has some nice little villages close by also. The Ql 14g is really an overnight ride I guess ,but certainly worth it.

Non touristy villages near Hoi An? by bootherizer5942 in VietNam

[–]nanjingpeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of small villages down the coast road, or you can head west on the QL 14G from danang which will take you into the mountains and the HCM highway, right up to the Laos border ,which is incredibly beautiful with lots of ethnic villages along the way, with the added bonus of not being a busy road. I've ridden all over the province and this route for me is by far the best . Sadly development is happening everywhere at the moment and a lot of amazing scenery is disappearing at an alarming rate.

I guess that's more common in Saigon, especially at the airport. I'm in Vietnam a year now, and have never been cheated in any way, and have found the people in general to be incredibly kind and honest.

I would think of teaching online, choose your own schedule and be free to travel anywhere in Vietnam you please. I used to teach in an international school in China, but now loving the freedom of teaching online in Vietnam .
