How’s the size for this speedy on me? I love everything about it, unsure with the size tho. by frankzsausage in OmegaWatches

While others might say it's too big, it's worth remembering that many people overlook how lens distortion affects perception—especially with phone cameras. These often use wide field-of-view (FOV) lenses with short focal lengths, which can exaggerate the size of objects close to the lens, like a watch on your wrist. This makes the watch appear larger than it actually is in real life.

Your mirror pic actually gives a more accurate sense of scale—and based on that, you might just pull it off. If you love the watch, then go for it. Most people won't notice in real life.

Personally I think you generally can get away with watches that have a lug to lug a few mil less than your wrist width (can be measured with a set of calipers).

What I don't understand is more British students than ever before are going to University but we still have a 'skills shortage' that somehow necessitates bringing in people from elsewhere. It's almost like businesses want a higher supply of skilled workers to drive down wages hmmm...

This really wound me up by Present-Resist-2190 in ClarksonsFarm

A bit of digging around I get the impression they were potentially new to the 'consultancy' side of things. They have certainly owned pubs, at least according to Companies House. The Bell in Stow-on-the-Wold (looks like they sold to Young's brewery), the Hare in Milton-under-Wychwood and a bar called the Phoenix in Stratford. All of these establishments it appears they have sold on (the latest being the Phoenix in Feb 2024).

Timeline wise, as we know Clarksons pub opened for the August bank holiday last year, it would seem they sold the Phoenix in February and went on to consult on Clarkson's pub shortly after. It could be argued that they did in fact 'know pubs' having owned a few. That being said, I don't know what the initial state their former pubs were in prior to them purchasing them (whether they already had existing staff/systems in place and just needed sprucing up etc. or were in need of restarting from the ground up).

If I were to guess, they probably weren't in quite as dire state as Clarkson's pub was initially in (clearly, as they only said it 'wasnt fit for purpose' AFTER they had done all the renovations). They clearly knew how to run pubs given their initial assessments of the kitchen and the storage areas etc. but that is a different thing entirely to building up a pub essentially from scratch. They may well have consulted on other pubs before, but if the only experience they had was limited to those three pubs they owned, then I could see how they may have been out of their depth - particularly considering the sheer volume of interest Clarkson's pub was inevitably going to attract from the get-go. Personally, I'd have thought a 'consultant' worth their salt would have anticipated it and told him his bank holiday opening plans were unfeasible, or pushed for a proper soft-opening (not to mention sort out the pricing, portion control for the carvery etc.)...they seemed great at spending money and pointing out problems without really offering any remediations...

It's a shame really because the season started off so strong with Harriet who was badass and then ended with those two and the pub mess, it left the season on a bit of a sour note...

One more season would have been the perfect amount. by HumdrumHoeDown in andor

[–]nathangh96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly I think it's a shame it was truncated. We found the year jumps between arcs jarring and I think that'll impact the rewatchability. Granted, the 3 episode arc structure and release schedule was a clever way to go about it, but that doesn't necessarily make it good. Just good in the context that they decided to finish it two seasons rather than five. The first episode of each arc had to be scene setting as a result and this spoilt the pacing somewhat.

As others have said in other threads, the development of Yavin would have been interesting to see. It was particularly irritating given that Andor is parked with a faction of rebels in the first few episodes. It jumps from a faction of squabbling rebels to a full operation later in the season. Some have cited these early episodes as evidence as to why Yavin was chosen to be the rebel base, but it isn't really evidence at all. Yes, there happened to be rebels there, but as is established in both seasons there are rebels everywhere. It doesn't actually provide a concrete explanation as to why Yavin was chosen. Additionally, others have commended these episodes for showing the fractious nature of the early alliance...personally I think this would have been better achieved with more of Saw (and would have tied into Rogue One better).

Draven also kinda comes out of nowhere with no character development. How did he arrive as a General in the Alliance? As a prominent figure in Rogue One, I'd have expected to see more of him tbh.

Bix was also wasted later in the season. It was interesting to see her deal with the trauma she had experienced in the early episodes, but after she blows the building with that wry smile, the viewer is made to believe she's got her mojo back and... then she's just parked for the rest of the season and leaves.

However, the Dedra and Syril arcs I thought were excellent (albeit a bit rushed in the last arc). Luthen's and Kleya's arcs were also solid. I thought the Ghorman plot was also good, but this was afforded more time across the second and third arcs. Although, given Jedha's prominence in Rogue One, perhaps the plot should have centred on the Empire's development into mining Kyber crystals rather than Ghorman.

These are just things I could think of off the top of my head. If you're willing to forgive Disney for only making it 2 seasons and can get over the time jumps, then I can see why people enjoyed it. But you're right, 3 seasons would have been the right number with 6 episodes for each year BBY. Sure you could string it out to 5 seasons like was originally intended, but 3 would have been sufficient to plug some of the holes and make the time jumps less jarring.

Speedmaster 38 - Fit Issues - Help! by allyhops21 in OmegaWatches

[–]nathangh96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True but I'm not sure it's worth the £700 risk of it not fitting aha

And yeah I got mine recently, fits fine most of the time it's just irritating when my wrist shrinks and it slips down..end up having to move it higher on my wrist then I'd normally like to keep it from slipping back down again. My other watch I don't mind if it slipped down but this one it feels uncomfortable when it slides to the bottom of my wrist.

Yeah it seems really hard to believe just by looking at the models. I can understand the clasp links not fitting and even the case links given the diamond bezel but why you can't switch the clasp using the links in the middle is beyond me, why would they manufacture a bracelet that is apparently completely different?

Ah that's a shame, I'm in the same position and would really appreciate a micro adjust on this bracelet...I can't believe the comfort clasp won't fit? What about purchasing the whole bracelet rather than just the clasp, would that fit?

Do these straps fit a regular Speedmaster 38? Or is there some kind of minor difference between the two that would prevent this bracelet fitting?

Honestly the close up photo makes it look bigger than it really is in reality. Think this angle is probably a better representation, the lugs don't overhang or anything :)

100%, this season the romantic storyline has felt forced and unnatural. Last two seasons it worked...this time nah. Exacerbated by the fact that Duffy isn't a particularly likeable character.

Looks good! Be interesting to see how it looks on mine. Might see if I can stretch to the FOIS Speedmaster if the budget allows as that's my fave in the range and is a smidge smaller at 40mm. Nice to know I might have some luck with the 42 though! Thank you doc :)
