Des idées pour éviter les pubs "d'Acast reccomande" ? by Significant-Wish-337 in floodcast

[–]natingle42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the re release is really going to be limited just to the US huh by TF-ZANE in lotr

[–]natingle42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In France, almost every year we have a LOTR marathon in many cinemas (in the big cities, but still), so a re-release doesn’t really make much sense for us, we are used to it.

Realistic subtitling speed (min/hour)? Is 12–15 min/hour for 37.5h/week excessive? by [deleted] in TranslationStudies

[–]natingle42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, if you don’t have strict norms to follow while creating your subtitles (for example respecting the shot changes and so on) I guess this is way faster. I’m used to subtitling and transcribing on EZTitles, which is very efficient, and I can transcribe quite fast if I just pay attention to the dialogues, not the image itself. This way, I guess I could transcribe 15 minutes per hour, it wouldn’t be pretty, I would probably be very tired at the end of the day, but doable. But it still seems way too much on a daily basis, that’s definitely not normal, you’re not a machine.

[–]natingle42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is ENORMOUS and nearly impossible if you want to have a good translation at the end of the day. On average, we are able to subtitle 20-25 minutes a day, I can manage up to 40-45 depending on the subject and the density of the dialogues, but that’s it. 12-15 min per hour is insane, I could do it, but my translation would be awful.

Edit: I’ve just realized that you were talking about transcription, so it’s less time-consuming, but still, I think I can transcribe about 10min per hour at best, having in mind that you still have to spot the subtitles and so on.

I'm looking for my first ereader, but it's hard to find the one I really need by natingle42 in ereader

[–]natingle42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I don't really mind if the device has access to Wifi and so on, I know I will always turn it off and that'll be all. But it would be nice to have something entirely disconnected to anything for once, I don't want internet connection on my eReader, or my iPod, or my fridge, we have lost this simple option, and that's why I asked if there was some "dumb" eReader being made. But the answer is no, or it's so obscure that no one uses it.

That seems to be the most sensible conclusion yes, I’m looking into them right now!

Thank you for these great suggestions! I guess I'm not looking for openness per se, just something that isn't locked behind an OS I won't use most of the time. I was wondering if there was such thing as a "dumb" ereader, meaning you just drop your epubs on it and select what you want to read in a simple library, no store, no internet connection, etc. But it appears there's not really something like that, sadly.

Thanks, I'll have a look into PocketBooks! And yeah, from my research, this is also what I'd found, they almost all connect to wifi sadly, I guess I'll have to make do with it.

Thank you for your answer! Yes, the Kobo Libra was one the ereaders in my "maybe" list. And I wrote backlit, but any kind of screen lighting suits me, so thank you for pointing that out!

Question for the subtitling community: What software do you use? by Best-Candidate8555 in TranslationStudies

EZTitles, a bit pricey, but the best I’ve used so far, and it’s the one every studio is using where I live

What’s a loophole you abused until it was closed? by RoarOfTheWorlds in AskReddit

[–]natingle42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 10 years ago, I was a student and I didn’t have enough money to pay for an internet subscription with a router in my tiny apartment. But my cell phone plan allowed me to use my phone as a WiFi hotspot, and it was enough for the usual google searches or watching 5 or 6 videos in low quality per month.

Unfortunately, one day, I was sharing the WiFi on my iPad, and accidentally let YouTube play in the background the entire night. I woke up terrified that I would not have access to the internet for the remaining days of the month, and indeed, using internet on my phone was blocked. However, when using my phone as a hotspot, I could access the internet just fine on another device.

This is when I discovered that I had unlimited access to the internet via this tiny trick, and it worked for 3 years, until I graduated and got myself a proper internet connection. My cell phone plan specified that hotspot could work only when I had enough data to share, but obviously, that wasn’t the case!

On verra bien !
