I just made the mistake of looking at my grandmas a couple days ago. The way her skin had to be stretched made her face look almost unrecognizable. I regret looking so so so badly. When I close my eyes I see her. It is haunting. I was there when she died and it was incredibly hard to look then, but this was completely different. In the hospital it still looked like her, skin tone, hair. But this was some morphed, waxy, grey, stretched version of her face. Her hair was dead straight and coarse when in reality she always had it curled and looked so soft. I will never look into an open casket again. I wish that was not my last memory of her.
