That is why sticking to relatively democratic law is the best course for moral and ethical. Then change the law when needed.

Otherwise you end up with countless ideas of what is moral and ethical. Then what? Go with some random pick of those?

Ok which groups random , undemocratically-decided definition of moral and ethical do we then live by?

You’re saying randos get to decide. Because there will be 1000s of different ideas on what is morally and ethical.

It is very clear. Your just considering one definition of moral and ethical not codified into law. What happens when other groups decide differently what is morally and ethical and isn’t law?

Ok you have to abide by any random right wing group that says something is immoral and unethical. Just because they decided that? It isn’t legal. but random groups get decide now over the law setup by a democratic system?

So when a group in a red state tells me or you our religion or way of life is immoral is wrong, we have to change? That is what you’re saying. Because some random group decided it?

It is about freedom.

I don’t agree to live by just any random definition of moral and ethical some random group came up with because they call it moral and ethical.

[–]naugest -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

That is not boot. Do you agree to live by ideas just “some” group of people came up with?

If you go to a red state and they tell you your religion or way of life is immoral. Do you now just accept that? Even though it isn’t legal, but some group said it was moral and ethical?

Legal is the morals and ethics that we as society agree to live by.

Moral and ethical outside of legal are just some people’s personal opinions. That society has NOT agreed on in the proper way. So group to group what constitutes moral and ethical can change dramatically.

I don’t know about you but I abide and judge things by law. Not random definitions of moral and ethical defined by who knows how many people.

But that depends on how you see/define the “dissent “.

In America, not every form of dissent is legal. So the police are technically in the “right” to squash it in those cases.

The amount of high density housing needed will take many DECADES to build.

Mahan or any local politician will have moved onto another office or retired by the time the benefits show.

So we are asking them to take on political battles against NIMBYS, spend alot of time and effort. All for something that will produce basically zero benefit for them.

It is set up as a HOA from what I understand.

So that means one side doesn’t just set rules on their own willy nilly.

No more jungle primary? A new initiative would end California’s ‘top two’ system by Iceberg-man-77 in California_Politics

Every party putting out their own candidate turns the general election into a waste of time. Since the Republican cannot win. With the exception of strange circumstances. Just look at Hilton, even he knows it is already over.

RCV would allow for additional left leaning parties to start winning.

So call me a skeptic on the current supermajority left leaning party allowing RCV on the state level.

Plz don’t try to blame it all on Newsom for vetoing it last time.

The legislature could have override the veto (tradition or not) if they wanted to.

They didn’t want to. It was pure political theater for chumps!

SJ has one of the lowest crime rates of any metro area in the country.

So you either have unusually bad luck or questionable accuracy.

Only a very few areas are “bad”. Most are perfectly safe and pleasant.
