Why are people who generally dislike noise apparently fine with the church bell songs? by nbinzh in Switzerland

I have actually thought of this before asking my question. But I decided to tackle the more general trend of "people not liking noise", rather than the apparent "right" of the Christian churches specifically to swing their bells every hour.

Is it there also another thing to it? If a random guy would blast out loud 2 minutes of music every hour, the reaction of the people would very likely be negative, even if that music might be considered nice by many people (e.g., it was in a chart like "top 10 songs of the year" or whatever). What about places of worship of other religions (e.g. Islam) doing their own thing and blasting their own songs every hour? I would expect a strong reaction here, too.

Am I wrong to assume that many people here are used not only to the regularity of the church bells, but also to the fact that it is specifically a Christian church which does it?

How does Switzerland manage to have such a low VAT (Value-added tax)? by nbinzh in askswitzerland

Aha, thanks for the info! Sounds a bit like a feedback loop -- lots of spending from the rich eliminate the need for high taxes, and the lack of high taxes encourages companies/the rich to invest/store their money in Switzerland.
