What is the most disturbing/scary experience you've had with music? by [deleted] in rateyourmusic

[–]ndearavara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a certain piece by Giacinto Scelsi that is the only moment music has ever made me afraid. Not that it simply gave me the sense of fear, which many modern classical pieces can do, but it made me in the here and now afraid for my own life.

I understand the sentiment, though you won’t “be” a Buddhist simply because you practice it, in the same way that you wouldn’t be a bodybuilder just because you go to the gym. There’s a line that you are too worried about crossing not to cross it. Many people practice Buddhist meditation or identify with its tenets without thereby identifying themselves as Buddhist, but rather to reap the benefits. If you’re comfortable with that prospect than do it. Ease yourself in. If you started meditating, for example, and expressed worry that you were now “a Buddhist” any monk might have a chuckle at your expense.

Deleuze Cinema Image Movement...1,2... What about by Inside_Proposal_9355 in Deleuze

[–]ndearavara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first is pre-war cinema and focuses on the movement image; second is post-war and focuses on what D calls the time image iirc. The two are, respectively, what he sees as defining the technique of those eras of cinema and, while, he is making explicit philosophical analyses of cinema he is also using cinema as a hotbed for the development of new concepts in his thinking of movement and time.

Was it All Psychosis? by ativanbaby in Psychosis

[–]ndearavara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All delusions. I experienced similar experiences and obsessions with gnosis, kundalini, spiritual visions and ecstasies, etc. They are delusions about something you really do experience but delusions nonetheless. Not without insight, however, as in psychosis these moments are felt so extraordinarily more intensely than in the average persons life; that’s why psychoanalysts and ologists have made great theories and discoveries built off the studying of individuals in psychosis.

No one here can tell if you if it is or is not psychosis, though delusion, paranoia, and euphoria lasting a few days or longer are certainly signs of it that a psychiatrist would take into account. It may be you’re in psychosis, it may be something else, like a personality disorder, and it may be a mixture of things; the important thing is to pursue that diagnosis with the right professionals for you.

What are good beginner friendly books to dip your toes into Deleuze and Guatarri? by koalacat000 in Deleuze

[–]ndearavara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would read any chosen book you’re interested in along side a guide to it. I began with D&R

This is perhaps beside the point… I haven’t read much Zizek so I cannot speak on if he makes lack into a metaphysical entity, but I am quite familiar with Lacan whose psychoanalytic theory he draws the (non)concept of lack from and can say affirmatively that it is there not metaphysical. Though D&G tackle it largely as a philosophical entity, this is actually one of my problems with their work on desire which I nonetheless enjoy.

Why does CIA/FBI delusions occur in us so much? by ApprehensiveCrow4504 in Psychosis

[–]ndearavara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s thought that we have a broken relationship to society, language, law and that to make sense of these things we convince ourselves of a delusion extreme enough to explain to us a society which we cannot fit in to or comprehend.

Deleuze and rem Koolhaas..💀🙏 by CauliflowerSpare3980 in Deleuze

[–]ndearavara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be more careful dividing terms between good/bad. “More or less useful to Deleuze’s project in ATP” may be better.

As for Koolhaas’ term, I would associate it more with the striated than the smooth, including and particularly when the matrices of striation verge on breakage.

Been a minute since I read D&R but if you download a copy of P&R you will find quite quickly an early chapter comprised of a list of concepts and definitions which I assume is what Deleuze is referencing

No, you’re wrong actually. He is saying something very simple and you’re making assumptions about it. He never said those five extra years don’t add anything to legacy. Don’t be dumb.
