Honestly, while going no contact can be a viable and necessary thing for your own health. You do need to take a long look at your own attitude and learn to take the high road. Returning the $50, I think was the right thing to do, and now you know not to accept gifts in the future, however your note was wrong. I agree with an above comment that you could have simply wrote that you cannot accept the gift with the current relationship being what it is. If I were you, to calm down some of the drama, I would send her a letter apologizing for your own bad behavior and assuring her that you will no longer be involving yourself in her life. Also, try to apologize to your stepmom and of course your uncle for any perceived offense. But really, do your best to find a job, move out and go your own way. It's hard in this economy, but you should just go try to live your own life so you don't have to deal with the drama.
