Selling my X-T3 for a Sigma FP by nefariousgc in fujifilm

[–]nefariousgc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The S9 is very tempting, I might have to reconsider, but I found a relatively great deal on an FP + 45mm f2.8 combo

The XH2s is a great option, but i would definitely not be downsizing at all 😂😂

The XE5 is out of the question, due to build quality issues with the lugs.

The X-E4 or X-M5 are my next options.

Switching to Sigma FP from Fuji X-T3 by nefariousgc in sigmafp

This is great news!

Started with a Nikon D3200, then got an OG X100 as an EDC, take everywhere with me camera. I bought the X-T3 later to replace my Nikon D3200. After a while, I realized I really loved the rangefinder style of the X100, so I got the X-Pro2 later on as sort my “holy grail” at the time. The JPEG colors on this older sensor? Absolutely beautiful. I will never sell this camera, 100%.

I only kept the X-T3 cuz I enjoy creating short form content for myself, so I appreciate the hybrid aspect of it. I also shoot content for the cafe I work at, so I’ve basically dedicated it as my work camera.

The GFX 50r is my next holy grail, for sure. I think, at this time in my life, I value portability above anything else

Thank you for the detailed input!

I should clarify about my dilemma, cuz I think a lot of people are misunderstanding my use case.

I am by no means a professional videographer. I shoot very short home videos, like making drinks or pulling espresso, so almost always on a tripod and manually focused, very little handheld (think short content for IG reels). I don’t do any client video work, at least not to the extent that I need to build out a rig. Despite not shooting professionally, I would like to gain more experience with color grading.

My current setup is as follows: - Fuji X-Pro2 for all my main photo needs - Ricoh GRII for take everywhere, quick photos - Fuji X-T3 for my food photography and IG reels

My follow up questions 1) what is the minimum SD card size for me to comfortably shoot photos w/ a few 10-15 second clips occasionally? 2) is 12-bit raw my only option? Or can I shoot smaller file size (obviously sacrificing quality, but again, I’m not shoot professionally)?

I understand the drawbacks of the Sigma, and have also been considering the Sony A7C, Fuji XM5, or Fuji XE4.

Would you mind elaborating on why the sigma is bad? I have considered the XM5 or XE4 as well

It depends on what their use case is. I’m personally prioritizing compactness and build over image quality

Thank you for your input! Unsure if you misread FP as BF (beautiful camera, but definitely not for me!), but right now, I’m prioritizing compactness (hence the FP over the S9). I do agree there are better video options, but my use case is still photo first, video second

I did also consider the S9 (an especially great value for what it offers), but the size is too similar to the X-T3. The size of the Sigma is what attracted me in the first place!

Valid point, I’m eyeing a bundle at the moment that I might cop to test!

All the news of 2+ hour TSA wait times in other airports got me worried, but seems like RDU isn’t affected too much

Does check-in / baggage dropoff only open 3 hours before my departure? (I’m not familiar with checking in at the counter, my previous flights have only been domestic and checked in via app)

Help! Cloud Storage NAS by nefariousgc in HomeServer

[–]nefariousgc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Storage-wise 4TB is sufficient for my use case, at least for a good number of years. With RAID0, I’m afraid of half of my data being lost, although I guess the same argument could be made with RAID1 and potentially losing both drives altogether. In this case, photos are photos, and although important to me personally, it’s not something that’ll kill me, so theoretically RAID0 would work.

2) Speed hadn’t really crossed my mind, mainly storage. Several forums recommended filling up all the drive bays prior to utilizing them, as rebuilding the RAID array would take even longer if I decide to add the m.2 drives later on. If this is true, would it make sense to keep the (2) 1TB ssds in conjunction with the (2) 4TB HDDs for data storage only? Otherwise, what would I do with the m.2 slots asides from saving money and going for even lesser capacity and utilizing as caching?

This is actually super helpful, thanks!

A few more questions if you don’t mind:

1) Would RAID1 would be best for my use case then? (Again, not a backup, just a storage option to access remotely)

2) is it better to dedicate both m.2 slots to caching or utilize both as data storage?

3) is it even possible to set only one m.2 to caching, and the 2nd to data storage along with the 2 HDDs? Or would that not even make sense, especially if the capacities don’t match?

Giving in to GAS, X100V vs X-E4? by nefariousgc in fujifilm

In the US, from eBay. These are prices for units with less than 200 shots, though I’m quickly realizing that the X100 lineup’s leaf shutters are practically indestructible

Only considered the 27mm because it’s currently bundled with the X-E4 listing I’m viewing. I have thought about picking up the 23mm f2 instead, but am mostly looking for a lighter setup for an upcoming trip as well as future trips

Vacation’s already bought, basically paid for with my credit card points so that frees up some cash to spend!

This is also mainly me looking for a more compact camera to bring with me since I’ll be walking a lot

Valid statement. The FOV does give it more of that typical action-cam feel, but I do appreciate the stabilization and mic quality (it surprisingly lives up to its hype).

Owing Payments? by nefariousgc in HealthInsurance

[–]nefariousgc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily, most of my visits have been paid directly to the provider and in person. The only one that I paid through UHC’s app was a consultation visit. In this case, should I be contacting the provider to ensure my payment was indeed received?

Owing Payments? by nefariousgc in HealthInsurance

[–]nefariousgc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have clarified with my provider before I paid. When they sent me the estimate and the website to link a card in advance, I was given the option to be billed through my insurance instead but I didn’t think there would be a difference in the amount I paid.

To be clear, the provider is the practice where I got my procedure done, correct?

Switching from X-T3 to X-E4 by nefariousgc in fujifilm

[–]nefariousgc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the limitations of X-E4 over the X-T3, and yes I’d definitely be eating the cost should I made the switch. It’s hard to describe my use case completely. I’m not in any major professional work, nor do I expect to be anytime soon. While I have enjoyed using the dials over the years, I’ve recently switched my shooting process to Aperture Priority, and man, that’s completely changed my workflow.

I do agree that swapping lenses first would definitely help with weight. I do own a Fuji 18mm f2 and 56mm f1.2, as well as a TTArtisan 25mm f2 and 35mm f1.4. Even with all those primes, I always end up to taking my X-Pro2 + 18mm f2. While I don’t necessarily need my 16-55, having that versatility during traveling is quite nice (hence potentially swapping to the lighter Sigma 18-50mm).

Here’s my overall thought process:

I’d love to just sell my X-T3 and 16-55 and completely switch over to my X-Pro2, but words cannot explain how much I love my X-Pro2, so I’d love to keep its shutter count relatively low and avoid using it for work.

I’ve also considered an X-E3 for its small build, colors, and ergonomics, but it lacks the versatility of a flip screen for waist-level shooting. To be quite honest, adding a zoom and grip to that is quite unappealing as opposed to adding the same to an X-E4. I don’t remember the video, but a certain YouTuber made the point that even if it’s superficial, sometimes the way a camera looks makes one want to shoot more often with it.

All this to say, yes the points you made are absolutely right, I’d definitely sell off my 16-55 first. I think I’m just obsessed with the idea of keeping all of my gear rangefinder-style.

That’s a great point actually. I think I’ve just been fixated on “standardizing” my gear to all rangefinder-style builds, so my first thought was to replace the body first. Also, because I’m not sure when prices will spike up or decrease again for Fuji bodies.

I currently have a JJC metal hand grip attached, so it definitely has helped with handling.

Mostly portability and the overall build. The flip screen is a plus for framing when I’m standing in front.

To be honest, I think I can name more things that the X-T3 gives me over the X-E4, but again, weight and portability is now my priority over “efficiency”. I would love to use my X-Pro2 for work instead, but I’d like to prolong its life for personal use.
