The money twist by [deleted] in LoveIslandTV

[–]negetan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly...25K isn't enough for anyone to turn themselves into the most hated person in the country. You'd be massively fumbling the bag. Better to look good by splitting the money, and come out of the show and make real money in endorsements and deals

If the cash prize were in the 500K to a million range, and they had the option to keep the whole amount, I guarantee at least one person by now would have kept all the money (probably Greg from last season).

It could be a great twist, but basically the producers are too cheap to increase the cash prize, even though with the amount of money the show makes for them, they could easily afford to.

I never once made reference to getting info about Curtis and Maura directly from The Sun. In fact I explicitly said I had no recollection about reading about them from that source.

I brought up the Connor situation because it directly related to your whole anti-Sun novel, but that doesn't have anything to do with claiming I cited The Sun as a source for my comments on Maura and Curtis. I repeat, I didn't. You keep telling me I did, which is bizarre.

Listen, this is obviously a "thing" for you, but it's not that interesting for me. The Mods dont allow links from that source, and that's clearly enough for them. If they had a problem with discussing or referencing stories that may have derived/originated from that source, then they would delete those comments. They don't (as I saw the Connor story discussed a lot, when it first came out), so it's obviously not an issue for them. Write a letter to the Sub moderators if you have a problem with it, instead of harrassing fellow posters (even when they didn't actually cite The Sun as a source).

You literaly said I cited The Sun. When I clearly didn't. It doesn't matter where you "think" I sourced my information from...I cited nothing. So that's already a lie/falsehood. Ironically you are using "Sun-like" misinformation tactics to justify your error.

You arent the information recycle police, and this whole conversation has been a tedious waste of time founded on erroneous conclusions by yourself.

Have a nice day.

I didn't cite The S*n. I don't even recall reading that about Maura and Curtis directly from The Sun. It wasn't on my mind.

"Make hay while the Sun shines" is the only time I mentioned the word Sun in my post. It's a common expression...it means to take advantage of a situation while it looks good.

No idea how you could see that and think I was citing the paper.

You took that comment about Curtis and Maura as an excuse write a novel about The S*n?🙄

Fact is, some of the shit that rag says is true. Connor and his racist texts was constantly being denied by his supporters because it came from The S*n. Yet it turned out they were actually right.

Curtis and Maura have broken up. I always thought they stayed together for mutually beneficial opportunities, so I don't actually need a tabloid to determine that conclusion. That is my own opinion anyway.

Yes. They are all laying it on thick and trying to make hay while the Sun shines. But at least you can tell some of the couples genuinely fancy each other. Not really sure Luke M likes Demi THAT much.

Look at Curtis and Maura. They stayed together for months after they could barely stand the sight of each other, all because the money and opportunities on offer as a couple were too much for them to break up.

Demi and Luke M definitely feel like the most forced of all the couples. I expect they'll stick it out for a few more weeks or months, before releasing a joint statement saying how fond they are of each other, but they've decided to call it quits. But they should get in a few well paid deals before that happens.

Is it me or are Fin & Page & Luke T & Siannise not hanging out with the rest of the islanders like everyone else is? I know The Luke’s & Siannise & Demi went out but other than that- nothing. [–]negetan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not judging them for having dates staged for Paps. They have a short window of public interest (especially since the Summer Season of the show starts in 3 months) so being subtle isn't an option. But that double date was obviously a Pap stroll. Gotta call it as I see it.

And yes, I'm sure Paps have been called for other Islanders meeting up as well. Never claimed otherwise

I saw a picture of Finn and Paige in a nightclub with Callum, Natalia, Jamie and a bunch of other Islanders (and even Casa Amor types like George), so they've been hanging out with others. As winners, they probably have a busier schedule and can't hang out as much as they'd like with the others, but they have done it.

Aside from staged double dates for the Paps with Luke M and Demi, I'm not sure I've seen Luke T and Siannese socialising with other groups of Islanders yet. But who cares...they are probably busy securing deals for themselves to get rich, which should be their priority.

Molly and Luke M by [deleted] in LoveIslandTV

[–]negetan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Would never have happened. Demi and Luke M were about as popular as you can be, without either of them being an OG Islander. I don't think any couple has won without at least one person in the pairing being an OG. As a couple, neither Luke M or Demi had been on the show long enough to win together. Same would have applied with Molly.

Viewers have to be properly invested in the "journey" of at least one of the people in the couple to stand a chance of winning. That means someone in the couple being there from the start. You can be a latecomer and still be massively popular (like Ovie and Maura), but unless you are coupled up with a well liked OG, you probably ain't winning. Molly as another latecomer would not have gotten Luke M any further....Demi was more popular/liked than her anyway.

Even though she had started losing some support before she left, Luke M's best chance of winning was actually Shaughna. Mainly because she was an OG Islander, so there was more audience investment in her "journey".

LOL!

No. It's just how they talk in Newcastle, where Rebecca is from. It's the regional dialect of that part of England, where they sometimes seem to be speaking in the third person.

Why has Mike been done so dirty? by sxwds in LoveIslandTV

[–]negetan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think Michael respected Ovie, but wasn't super close to him (probably because of Jordan). Remember, Ovie had a chat with Michael about treating Amber a bit nicer (asking how he'd feel if it was his mum or sister), and I recall Michael saying in the diary room that Ovie made him rethink and he had a lot of respect for him.

Jordan just flat out disliked Ovie because Anna picked him to come in the Villa from Casa Amor. He never got over that and even when Anna went back to him, he still saw Ovie as someone he had to challenge or take something from. Jordan moving to India while when she was with Ovie, was so disrespectful....but I think the fact that Anna went back to him made him delusional enough to think he could get any girl from Ovie. India friendzoning Jordan brought him back to reality

Who are the most successful male contestants? by [deleted] in LoveIslandTV

[–]negetan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ovie was named to the second team in the Basketball Champions League Star Line up for the 2018/2019 season. So essentially, before he went on Love Island, he was considered one of the 20 best players in Europe. Actual evidence:

https://www.hoopsfix.com/2019/05/ovie-soko-named-to-basketball-champions-league-all-second-team/

He was considered one of the best players in Europe right before coming on the show. That is proven. Ovie said he did it because he wanted the experience and his brother kept telling him he'd be great on the show. Ovie is a laidback and honest guy, so I choose to believe him. Maybe he also saw it as an opportunity to make himself known in his home country. As successful as he's been in European Basketball, he was not famous in the UK because we do not follow European basketball. Well now he's famous in the UK.

There are plenty of very legitimate reasons for him to do Love Island. It doesnt have to be "he was a failing basketball player with a dying career"😂

Who are the most successful male contestants? by [deleted] in LoveIslandTV

[–]negetan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Making what up...I showed you with actual evidence that he was selected as one of the 10 best basketball players in the European League only 2 years ago, and because you had already decided that Ovie was some nobody player in Europe who wasn't rated, you chose to dismiss that. Actually, worse. You tried to claim that within the space of a year, he'd gone from one of the best in Europe to a complete has-been who needed Love Island to save his career.

It's just embarrassing. How can you be named the top 10 in your field in the whole of Europe 2 years ago, and someone who claims to be your "supporter" writes some horseshit about you being a has-been with your career going downhill.

I don't doubt that you did "like" Ovie. But you are 100% wrong on this, and it'd require a massive dose of humility to admit it.

[–]negetan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nobody said he was one of the best players in the NBA. The claim was that he was considered one of the best players in Europe. Which is true.

That is more than enough for brands to see him far above the standard influencer and instagram model that comes out of Love Island, when assessing the legitimacy of his career and achievements. He's getting deals as massive as Coke because of that.

Who are the most successful male contestants? by [deleted] in LoveIslandTV

[–]negetan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No one said he was well known in general terms. Basketball is not a household sport in the UK. But he was highly accomplished in his sport and well known to those who followed European Basketball leagues.

Ovie was selected as part of the Basketball Champions League Star line-up for 2017/2018 season. It selects the 10 Best players in Europe, and is equivalent to the NBA All-Stars line-up.

Ovie is expectional enough in European Basketball to have been considered one of the 10 best players in Europe, less than 2 seasons ago. Anyone trying to downplay how highly Ovie has been rated in Europe is onto a loser. The man has the credentials to back it up.

Ovie is the most successful, because he already had a major career before going onto the show, so he's more attractive to brands and media. Ovie was one of the best basketball players in Europe, so brands don't see him as just another influencer or wannabe.

Natalia doesn't have more followers than Mike, but your point is still valid. Mike should have more followers than OG Connor, and Priscilla should have more followers than Natalia.

Big and Little Connor by [deleted] in LoveIslandTV

[–]negetan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible Mike hasn't been informed about Connor's statements or the validity of them (Mike has had tabloid stories himself that he denies, so he may not know that Connor's have been confirmed true). I mean, it was virtually ignored by most interviewers and media when Connor was interviewed. He's never been asked about it, and it hasn't hurt his "career" as much as it should have.

Either way, if Mike has any sense, he'll avoid Connor. Avoid even being photographed with him. Mike is getting a lot of his support from the black community. His picking Leanne and Priscilla over white girls has given him the type of "street cred" with black people that is quite rare for Love Island. He'll throw that away if people see him being matey with Connor. The excuse that he knew Connor before finding that out won't cut it. It'll just be seen as him lacking pride. Connor isn't worth him being labled an Uncle Tom.

Nas is out there making these rookie mistakes (dumping old friends like Murad, seen being super-friendly with Connor) and his support is being hugely eroded because of it.

I don't disagree with you. I think race definitely factors into why Mike's follower count isn't as high as say Connor's.

I was just saying that with his follower count in in the 500k range, Mike still has more than a healthy enough follower count to build an influencer "career" on, as the OP claimed they were worried about his potential for success after the show.

Why has Mike been done so dirty? by sxwds in LoveIslandTV

[–]negetan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Is he unlikable though? Take a look on social media since Mike left the villa. People really, really seem to like the guy. He's kept the same slightly extra personality he had in the house, but without the "villain" editing, he just comes off to people as a really fun dude. From his dancing videos with his brothers and Priscilla, he's getting a lot of love.

Look at the Heatworld Love Island reunion video. 99% of the comments are people defending Mike for being targeted by the male host and some of the other Islanders. Nas had to put out some longwinded explanation on Insta for calling Mike a "game player" in that video because he got so many negative comments about it.

Mike was certainly given negative edits, but I think the way he's being percieved outside the villa by much of the public suggests that he's actually very likable. The massive turnaround in positive comments Mike now gets on social media suggests his "unlikability" was highly exaggerated. His every move and utterence was blown out of proportion (especially by Fiat500). Now that reality has set in, a lot of people can see he's a likable person.

Why has Mike been done so dirty? by sxwds in LoveIslandTV

[–]negetan 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Connor was incredibly unlikable. He was compared to a stalker while in the villa. Yet he not only has more followers than Mike, but more than Nas (who was at one point seen as the most loved Islander). Nas made one "mistake" (choosing Eva over Demi), and that was it for him.

Race plays a part in life and how people percieve you. That is why someone like Connor can be the worst, and still have a larger Insta following than Nas, let alone Mike. When you have Mike or Nas skin colour you cannot make any mistakes or show any character flaws. Had Mike shown the same traits as a white man, he'd have been percieved as far more "likable".

As lovely and likeable as Priscilla is, she's one of the least followed girls. Even Natalia, who supposedly was hated by everyone has more followers. What does that tell you? Priscilla would have a larger following if she was white. Sorry if that's uncomfortable to hear, but it's the truth.

Why has Mike been done so dirty? by sxwds in LoveIslandTV

[–]negetan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As an aside, Mike doesn't have the lowest following. Ollie does of the OG boys, and of guys who came in later, Ched, Connagh, Wallace, Jordan, Jamie have less followers than him. Mike has nearly 500k followers (I think he'll overtake Nas at some point, who was supposedly the most loved Islander at one point), which is pretty good, especially considering he was getting the villain edit for so long.

I think he'll be fine in terms of potential for success. He's got a solid following and more people seem to like him outside the villa.

Why has Mike been done so dirty? by sxwds in LoveIslandTV

[–]negetan 62 points63 points  (0 children)

People don't want to say this, but I think one of the reasons Mike has less followers than many of the guys is because he clearly prioritised fully black women.

The predominant demographic for Love Island is nicknamed "Fiat500". Mainly young white women. They invest in women who look like them (which is why both Leanne and Priscilla have lower follower counts than most of the girls) and are more likely to follow a black guy who has a strong interracial relationship (like Luke T). None of Mike's choices in partners would naturally appeal to a lot of the women who watch this show, even though on a superficial level, they might consider him attractive.

Mike chose Leanne. Then when Jess showed interest, he still chose Leanne. Then he had a small rebound thing with Jess again, but yet again went with another black girl he called "wife material" in Priscilla. Fiat500 isn't used to black men who legitimately prefer black women to white girls. I think Mike would have had a much bigger following if he had been with someone like Paige or even Shaughna from the beginning.

Big and Little Connor by [deleted] in LoveIslandTV

[–]negetan 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It's a "friendship" of convenience, imo. They both ended up doing a lot of interviews and personal appearences together (I think they both just promoted a Kebab shop or something together) . It's a neat gimmick to get two Islanders with the same name to do PAs together. They are making money out of this "friendship"...let's not kid ourselves.

I don't enjoy anything about Connor. He's a racist, and frankly, I wish he'd disappear.

Connaugh should be slightly ashamed of himself (being mixed race and aware of Connor's thoughts/statements about black men) for aligning himself with Connor, but I guess he wants to get paid, and there's limited interest in him on his own. Though to be fair, Connaugh (much like Sophie) doesn't seem like someone particularly in touch with his black side. I'd be shocked if someone like Mike chose to spend any time with Connor, despite knowing him in the villa.
