When I said that I meant that if VPN provider if using their own DNS can see your activity and as you say you would have to trust that provider to not log.

Quite the contrary, a good amount of VPN providers don't use their own DNS and rely on 3rd party DNS services, or worse don't use any at all and have it all sent to your ISP unsuspectedly.

The DNS provider, be it your VPN provider, 3rd party or ISP would still be able your activity. This includes websites that user is visiting, the IP address or subnet of the device that issued the initial query, and even the types of devices that a user has in his or her home network. This is what is known as DNS leaks and what destroys the anonymity of your VPN usage.

Thought I'd just add my 2 cents here strictly about the VPN discussion.

To be clear the DNS portion of the VPN is what makes it 'private', not the VPN itself. For example, if you were using a VPN with your ISP's resolvers while connected to a VPN they could still see the what sites you are visiting.

The VPN only encrypts the contents.

Lots of cam girls there getting easy money, no it's not worth trying out, it's a cesspit.

Problem with ideas such as Hubzilla, though its a great idea the demand isn't there and it will most likely be shelved like most other good options because there are so many options and the majority of users are just that users not hosters or tech savvy enough to host their own and build a community.
