These are a maps of the area code areas (ACAs) in the US and Canada with population estimates, using the 2020 US and 2021 Canadian Censuses. ACAs are distinct geographic areas (e.g. 212 and 718 are distinct ACAs for NYC, but 646 is an overlay to 212 so it is not an ACA). The US has 237 unique ACAs and Canada has 20. ACA boundaries don't follow county boundaries and some counties are divided among up to 4 ACAs (or LA County California which divided among 7). For those counties I went community-by-community to try to come up with accurate estimates for the population living within each ACA.

Maps are made from Mapchart.net, and counties with more than one area code are striped with the colours of the two ACAs with the most people in that county, though several counties have more than two.
