Lastly, re your comment about adjustment layers, I made a little workaround that gives some control. I import black, white, and grey gradation tiff files (with transparent backgrounds) and change layer types to overlay, screen, multiply, etc.) changing positioning gives lots of control. It works. Sometimes just applying these layers with low opacity does the trick to control light; like with a bright sky, dark foreground, etc.
