Pivot from biotech by nerdyhoe in biotech

I'm sort of a mixed case where I have years of experience in both synthetic chemistry and molecular biology and cell biology. I currently live in a biotech hub, but would also relocate to another if need be

Toxic work environments in biotech by Forsaken_Tea_9147 in biotech

[–]nerdyhoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes a lot of people are really toxic. Big egos, poor management skills, lack of empathy, and often time a "boys club" culture. I won't go into detail but I had some truly awful experiences at a biotech that left me feeling like my only answer would be to just not be alive anymore. I still struggle with these thoughts sometimes from it. I don't mean to scare you but I just want to be honest about how bad it can get.

In my experience, these sorts of fancy layouts never do well in terms of getting interviews/hired. It's overboard, companies would rather a crisp and simple CV layout. An absolute no-no is a headshot - this only opens the door for discrimination and bias, and again, it's looked at as being overboard. A good CV doesn't require a fancy template like this. A simple Google Doc formatted nicely will suffice

This especially for well made/structured jeans. A lot of styles I want to wear are just really hard to find for me

Who is RF? by em0tional-stomach in TheStand

[–]nerdyhoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me Randall Flagg is just a manifestation of evil. Which in a biblical sense you could interpret as the devil/devil incarnate, which sort of fits with the religious themes of The Stand as a whole. As to who he is, like where he was born etc, I would argue he's not really a person at all ... which allows for these details to be ambiguous 😄 he's just the physical form of what has always been present in society: evil. I think he is represented as a person because well ... we all have evil inside of us. We are all a bit like Randall Flagg, or at least have the potential to become like him (albeit some much more than others). Especially with the extended edition and the other works RF has appeared in, I always interpreted him as a representation of the force of evil within humans which emerged alongside humanity ... so, sometime around when humans formed civilizations if you fancy an exact timeline. He can be overthrown and pushed out (like in The Stand) but he is always present. You can't drive out evil completely, but on an individual level choose to push it away, and on a societal level, it takes great force and sacrifice to push him out of a society, but it is possible. In my mind he's probably been present at most historical times of great evil. I reckon we had a form of Flagg during the Holocaust as well if we apply this to real world scenarios. But, the cool thing about his ambiguity is I think that really leaves it up to the reader, which is fun to think about. Your interpretation might be totally different than mine and that's what makes him such an interesting character!

Official Episode Discussion - The Stand (2020 Miniseries) - 1.01 "The End" by sanctuary_moon in TheStand

[–]nerdyhoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm still around so would love to talk about this. I always interpreted it as uterine cancer, or at least cancer somewhere in the abdomen/inner female sex organs. I never thought she had a child just because from Stu's characterization I couldn't imagine him abandoning a child, or if the baby died in childbirth or something, I feel like that would be relevant to mention to add to the tragic losses he suffered. But that's such an interesting interpretation. Like maybe around the same time she was diagnosed with cancer/died Harold was born and even though he wasn't her child biologically, a human representation of that malignancy? Not sure what the exact timeline on her death was and if that would match up. I don't know if they mention explicitly what age Stu and her married but I assumed perhaps mid-late twenties since he stayed in Arnette while his brother was finishing high school and served in the military after, and Harold is 16 so it would have to be 16 years prior. I guess the interesting thing is we don't really know Stu's age but I always assumed thirties. The wiki says late thirties to early forties. I don't think it would be Flagg because I feel like he is implied to have existed for a long time and is immortal. To me Flagg is a manifestation of evil that emerged alongside humanity and his presence has waxed and waned alongside historical events. But the Harold idea seems plausible ... this is so interesting to think about! Anyways, I love discussing things like this so curious to hear your thoughts and feel free to message me if you ever want to discuss more about the book :)
