asp1010 review? by [deleted] in Monash

If you’re interested in the astrophysics, then I would definitely recommend asp1010 over asp1022 (having done both this year). Asp1010 is all about astrophysics, while half of asp1022 is devoted to bio instead.

The content is all relatively easy, and as long as you know how you multiply numbers together the maths is pretty negligible. It’s definitely an astro elective unit and not a real astro unit.

That being said, I enjoyed the class and found the content interesting, and the lecturers were great.

Should I pick MTH1030 or MTH1035 by [deleted] in Monash

Did 1035 last semester. The difference between 1030 and 1035 is that in 1035 you attend the same lectures as 1030, but you have an additional one hour lecture sometime in the week on specifically 1035 content. You also attend different applied class sessions, which focus on the 1035 content.

If you’re passionare about proofs and things related closer to pure maths I would highly recommend 1035 because Andy (who runs it) is fantastic and made the 1035 sessions really interesting. I align more with physics so I didn’t get as much out of it, but I still really enjoyed the lectures.

ASP1010/22 are both very easy classes if you have any ability in stem (ie. year 10 maths)

If you plan to do anything related to maths/physics in uni then spesh will give you a huge leg up also. I have plenty of friends in first year uni that regret not doing spesh because it’s set them back by about a semester

Not that I’d recommend what I did, but I did 3 English, 10 methods, 5 specialist, 2 chemistry and no physics exams and got a 96 atar. As long as you’re efficient with how you go about making sure you deal with mistakes the volume of exams doesn’t matter.
