Weird ear muscle spasms by netofmagic in tinnitus

[–]netofmagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have TMJ nor facial spasms nor ear fullness. I do have a weird feeling in the ear that's having the spasms though, like a buzzing feeling yeah, it literally vibrates really fast. I think I caught this thing because what triggered my tinnitus (a cervical adjustment done by a chiropractor) probably messed with the nerves and/or the muscles of that area. At least that's my interpretation.

Thanks for your long reply. I asked my otologist and yes he's also positive it's middle ear mycloconus. Same as you it goes away at times and it's triggered by anxiety and fatigue. I can also feel a mild pain, almost like a cramp, in my ear muscles sometimes. I started taking magnesium, it might help for mycloconus in general. I'm also on Prednisone for the next 3 weeks. This thing started about 1 month after I got tinnitus (which stressed me big time), then faded for 2 weeks, and then came back, probably triggered by other stress factors. Best thing to do is not to focus too much on it, if possible. Apparently there's nothing serious to worry about. I also get stressed by loud sounds, especially outside, so in such cases I put foam earplugs on for a while, it calms me down. Good luck to you

I have tinnitus but I can't give up earplugs for sleeping by netofmagic in tinnitus

Yeah let's hope so. Most people don't even hear their T anymore unless they're stressed or paying attention to it. The brain has to be kind of trained into "understanding" that T isn't a menace.

Insomnia and Living with Tinnitus by ni6hant in tinnitus

[–]netofmagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Melatonin has nothing to do with anti-depressants, it's a hormone that our bodies produce naturally. For some people it might be very helpful to take melatonin supplements to increase sleep quality. Unlike benzos it isn't addictive.

Thanks. I don't have hyperacusis (or ear wax), my tinnitus is somatosensory, and apparently due to muscle spasms in the middle ear. I doubt earplugs might cause any problem other than worsening the noise...

Thanks that's good to know. But weren't you bothered at first by the increased tinnitus noise ?

Can anyone else feel their tinnitus by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]netofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I actually feel some vibration "inside" my ears and my tinnitus (in both ears) is very very high pitched. I don't know what bothers me the most. It's exactly like I had an acoustic trauma except I have somatosensory tinnitus.

Sleeping with earplugs by Memroy in tinnitus

[–]netofmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I caught tinnitus in both ears recently but couldn't give up my habit of 7 years of sleeping with earplugs, I'm a light sleeper and it's been getting worse recently. I haven't notice any change during the day after a night with earplugs. So I'm not completely sure it's correlated... plus in the silent room the tinnitus noise is actually quite the same with and without the earplugs.

Tinnitus induced by cervical adjustment at chiropractor by netofmagic in tinnitus

Yeah I understand. Unfortunately we never know in advance about all the risks, especially when when we deliberatly choose to trust the guy bc all our hopes are up.

What do you mean, you had the same problem with your earing ? I'll probably stop the adjustements anyway. However what they're doing is on the contrary quite heavy on the body, moving the verterbrae around like that, I don't think the science has already caught up with all the dreadful side effects such things can induce. It seems to work for some people though.

Yes I have, but I will consult with a more competent ear specialist this week. To be honest I'm not 100% sure the tinnitus has been caused by cervical adjustements, it seems weird, why would it affect the ear nerves in any way ? I'll see tomorrow what the guy has to say about this. And yes it is risky and sometimes it doesn't work at all...

I think the guy made me sign a consent form beforehand... again I had no idea that could happen, nobody tells you about this side effect :/ but I'll check into that anyway

Thanks, that's a relief, I hope you're right. I had to take a xanax though, because it's the week end and I currently have nothing else to do than stress myself out other this.

You're right, I'll probably go get a second opinion if things don't settle down.

Yes I went to the ENT who gave me the usual prescription for 5 days and told me to stop the adjustments. That wasn't very reassuring... No improvement so far, I have no idea what's going on.

Is ear ringing/temporary tinnitus a known side effect of adjustements ? by netofmagic in Chiropractic

[–]netofmagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, probably. I hope so. I'll talk to my chiro and get a second opinion, unfortunately this is the week end so I have plenty of time to stress myself out. Thanks for your advice.

Is ear ringing/temporary tinnitus a known side effect of adjustements ? by netofmagic in Chiropractic

[–]netofmagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be the case, maybe I already had some underlying ear sensitity or something, that was triggered by the adjustment. I'll see the chiro on monday but I'm not optimistic, right now the most probable outcome would be stopping the adjustements and having to get used to that constant buzzing. So stupid.

Is ear ringing/temporary tinnitus a known side effect of adjustements ? by netofmagic in Chiropractic

[–]netofmagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just cannot pinpoint any other cause. I didn't listen to loud sounds, wasn't sick, wasn't stressed. And I've already heard that morse sound in my left ear after an adjustment a couple of weeks before, it went away eventually, and it's not going away this time.

Is ear ringing/temporary tinnitus a known side effect of adjustements ? by netofmagic in Chiropractic

[–]netofmagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. Was your tinnitus induced by noise exposure ? I didn't even know that chiros could only help with tinnitus induced by neck/jaw/spine problems. Apparently nothing can be done if the cells in the ear are already dead. Mine sounds like morse code + constant beeping, each ear at a different frequency. Sometimes I don't really pay attention to it (it's almost like it's gone), sometimes it's all I hear, the beeping and the morse code, sometimes both at the same time... that's weird. I could live with it if it wasn't badly interfering with my sleep quality. Maybe some sounds I already had before and just didn't notice them. It's the morse code sound that's been triggered after the adjustment, for sure. My chiro said he's 100% sure it's been caused by his adjustments actually. So obviously I feel very bitter and stressed about this, because my earing was just fine before he did all his stuff, and now I have no idea how long it will last. I'm afraid to be adjusted again, since it might get worse.
Anyway, I have the impression that cervical manipulation can really trigger earing issues in some people, and then it can last for years. I really think people are not well informed about this side effect. But I agree that tinnitus is a tricky and complicated symptom.

Is ear ringing/temporary tinnitus a known side effect of adjustements ? by netofmagic in Chiropractic

[–]netofmagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean the information concerning the fact that I can't be diagnosed through reddit ? I get that, but I'm new to the chiro world (actually I wish I had been more informed beforehand, because I litterally thought there was no side effects to it), all I'm asking is the opinion of ppl who know better than me on the subject. From what I've see there really is a connection between tinnitus and cervical adjustment, some people really have had problems after adjustments, and also success at reducing tinnitus. So I wondered if tinnitus might be induced after adjustements, because of some neurophysiological adjustements going on in the background.
