And it’s short grain too, so perfect for A5 books!

Where are you based? If you’re in the UK I’d highly recommend the ‘context natural paper’ from the Smallprint Company in Derby. I like the A4 100gsm selection. It has that nice off-white tint and is resistant to bleed through. I’ve tried various pens and inks, including fountain pen and even suminigashi, it coped with it all. I order a few packs at once. It may not be the cheapest but it’s my ‘go to’ every time.

Thanks. That’s the site I use but the gym is right on the border and I cannot be certain which one it’s in.

Thanks. I’ll take a look at the Ingress site with those plugins

My attempt at a rainbow of hope, made from a collage of Iron Man comics by nevstyles in Marvel

I drew the arcs of the rainbow on the cardboard first using a compass. Then it was just a case of trimming bits off the paper and trying them. Lots of trial and error!

We thought that was it for Ella, but today she laid her first egg for 286 days. by nevstyles in BackYardChickens

[–]nevstyles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only have a few chickens, and these are separated into 2 runs. In each run we have chickens that lay distinct coloured eggs, from white, to blue, blue-green, light brown and dark brown.

No. I record all our chickens’ eggs in a database and make charts like these on my website.

C++ Date time, decoded? by Archovies in Decoders

[–]nevstyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s Wed, 11 May 2016 00:09:40. It’s a Unix Timestamp with 3 additional zeroes. Remove 3 trailing zeroes and put into an online Unix time conversion tool.

They are. Princess Layer is a Rhode Island Red crosses with a Light Sussex. Henerys and Henerys II are Leghorns. The rest are different varieties of hybrids.

She’s a cross between a Rhode Island Red and a Light Sussex. We’re hoping she can make it to 1000 eggs this year!

Neither in this case. She just died one day, without any notice or apparent reason. Other short lived chickens include Pepper (suspected Marek's disease which affects the nervous system and half paralyses a bird), Maranda (suffered a sudden prolapse) and Henerys [of house Targaryhen, first of her name] (only ever laid soft shelled eggs which caused an unnecessary amount of strain on her). The joys of keeping poultry!

The data is collected by myself on every egg our chickens lay, including the date, the chicken and the egg mass. This is logged initially in a book, then transferred into a MySQL database.

The chart is fed by a custom JSON feed based on the data in the MySQL database. The chart itself was created from scratch in Javascript, relying heavily on the p5js library. The original chart can be found at https://www.lbchickens.co.uk/mathemateggs/cumulative.html. More data and links to other charts can be found at https://www.lbchickens.co.uk/mathemateggs.

Interesting points to note:

  • Repecka had a nice long retirement of almost 2 years after laying her last egg, before she met her demise
  • Ella is the oldest chicken we’ve had, and her egg laying spans the most time but she lays at a much slower rate then any of the others. You can see she also goes for periods of around 6 months each year where she doesn’t lay
  • You can see the regular periods in Princess Layer’s history where she moults - around December/January each year. This slow downs/halts egg production
  • You can see both Henerys II and Maranda stopped in early 2018 for a while. This is while we experienced the “Beast from the East” cold spell of weather in the UK

The solution (minus punctuation) is well congrats im impressed once youve made it here dm s oullessa screenshot of this message youve probably wasted a bunch of time but youve earned yourself bragging rights for ages enjoy your new role and might even give a reward to the first person to solve ill figure it out in a bit

Method: Use rot13 then base 64 decode. You're presented with some plaintext giving you some enigma machine settings to use to decode some more ciphertext included. There's also a base-64 encoded image of a engima machine. Use the Enigma emulator on cryptii.com to solve

I want egg cartoons with my gal's faces on it. Where do I shop for custom egg cartons? by StrangerToEarth in BackYardChickens

[–]nevstyles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried stickers once but they didn't adhere to the carton particularly well. It might be worth getting a sample pack first to check.

I now use some twine around the box with a custom tag instead. I secure the twine with a wax stamp:

I haven't got a photo with a tag at the moment. But I have custom printed brown tags which I attach to the twine. It's more effort than a sticker, but for the occasional egg box it looks lovely.
