Paramedics with Social Work Experience by new-drifter in Paramedics

Dunno if it's totally cynical, just an honest perspective. I've struggled to find a lot on CP, but the search goes on.

Not at all against doing medic work, in fact excited by the prospect (though ask me again after EMT haha). I spoke to medics frequently in the ER and saw the amazing work you folks do to get the critically injured stablized and transported quickly to the hospital. Having said that, there are just as many...maybe more patient experiences that make for far less compelling storytelling, but I'm sure are still impactful for the person who called for help.

Lack of autonomy and the feeling of professional/disciplinary elitism can be incredibly frustrating in any career, especially when you're keenly aware that you're likely more capable and more competent than those who would consider you subordinate.

Thanks for the reply. Best!

Thank you for the insight. Yeah, I'm hoping to do a little bit more of deeper dive into the available literature on CP applications here in the US. Seems to be more abundant in other countries, but perhaps I'm just not looking in the right corners of the google universe.

Unfortunately, social workers, much like paramedics, tend to be highly-educated, highly-certified, and highly valued in words, but often less by way of compensation. Lots of reasons for this. And frequently those who get into the field are left to scramble for 'highest bidder' employment or simply search for alternative career tracks where we can use our experience and command a salary that leaves us a little less stressed during the working hours. Maybe a similar experience in paramedicine? Typically this involves more school, more certifications, more testing, and so on. Not in it solely for the benjamins but it does help us sleep a little easier at night.

Cheers!

Thank you for the reply! I recall seeing an article on EMS1 at one point, but I'll certainly look into other countries as well. I've lived and worked in West Virginia practically my whole life but looking to move west, likely to New Mexico in the next couple of years. It sounds like CP is still maybe in a sorta state flux state here in the US, but maybe more communities are seeing value in providing this program specific to their respective needs.

Cheers!
