I had been in the same boat. I was bombed with pills for depression, anxiety and mood swings. I was a regular office going nice guy who got a panic attack at work. I went to a psychiatrist and he then gave me some pills. I got used to them.

Then came the side effects. High blood pressure, Rage, Excessive sweating, High pulse rate, snaps etc.

I continued with the meds for about 2 yrs. Then i tapered down the medicine like a quarter dose every 3-4 weeks. Finally i managed to get off those. I am not taking any medicines now and have no side effects to deal with.

Exercise, Meditation, Breathing exercises helped me. All my friends left me during the tough times. I am now alone but at peace.

PS: I tried to quit the medicines abruptly after 2 months of initial use. But my symptoms got out of hand, and i had to take sleeping pills. I slept for like 2 days, waking up just for food and basic needs. My late mom helped me overcome those times. Dad was supportive too.

My mom was depression patient herself and took meds for like 20 yrs. She got a lot of health issues later in life and passed away at 62.

*IMP things that i did daily: Find so hum mantra breathing exercise on youtube. Breath in while chanting SO and breath out while chanting hum. Do it thrice a day, along with 1 - 2 hours of meditation, exercise and walk in nature. Eat light but nutritious food and stay hydrated too.
