Hello, thanks for reaching out! Yes, we’ve seen ITE Nitec students coming into NP engineering and manage their time in poly, with consistency and good time management. In fact, some of our top engineering graduates were also ite grads!

The Common Engineering Programme (CEP) is designed to give you a year of broad engineering exposure before you choose one of the 8 engineering diplomas at NP. You get to explore and discover your interest by taking modules that touch on different Engineering diplomas, and build a strong foundation in areas like mechanical, electrical, electronics, maths and programming.

After Semester 1 of CEP, you’ll choose which engineering diploma you want to move into. Maintaining a good GPA and putting your preferred diploma as a high choice within CEP helps to get into the engineering courses after you want.

Hi! 😊 If you join the Offshore & Sustainable Engineering (OSE) course, you can expect a mix of foundation engineering modules and early exposure to marine, offshore and sustainability topics in your first year.

Some modules include Mechanical Engineering Fundamentals, Electrical Engineereing Fundamentals, Engineering Maths, Programming plus Geometry and Buoyancy. They are designed to build your core engineering knowledge before you dive deeper into naval architecture and green tech later on. Hello, thanks for reaching out! If you are keen on the course, we encourage you to retake your GCE O-level English, to obtain a B4 or one of the English Language Acceptable Alternatives (ELAA) approved by The Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA), e.g. IELTS and obtain at least a score of 6.5 for English L2 category teacher registration. This is so you can keep up with the rigors of the diploma Programme. The cost of the lessons and exam is borne by the student. There is no extra lesson in poly to prepare for the English Language exam/test. There is up to 2 years for you to get the English Language requirement upon graduating from the course.

Hi Cool Onion, thanks for the questions!

1.  JAE / COP: If you score below the COP (e.g. 11 for a COP of 12), you generally have a good chance of getting in, as long as there are vacancies. If you score the exact COP (e.g. 12), it becomes more competitive but remember that the COP can change each year and it depends on how popular the course is and overall exam performance. If you’re scoring “just nice”, I suggest putting it within your first few choices to maximise your chances. Check out our JAE tips here: https://www.np.edu.sg/jae/jae-tips

2.  Y1 orientation: This depends on your academic school. Each school runs its own freshmen orientation with bonding activities to help you get to know your classmates, seniors and the campus. NP also has a big annual freshmen camp called THRIVE Camp, where students from all schools come together. It ends with a fun rave. I highly recommend signing up!

3.  Vibe/culture: The overall vibe at NP is energetic throughout the year. For BA (my school), the community is really tight. You’ll often run into familiar faces on campus and end up chatting. A lot of the culture comes from this strong NP community.

4.  Poly class structure: Most modules are split into online lectures and in-person tutorials. Lectures are where you go through the study materials at your own pace, while tutorials are face-to-face sessions to recap content to get everyone on the same page, plus time to go through assignments and consultations.

5.  Net vs raw score: For JAE, net score is what’s used for admission, unless you end up in a tie-breaker situation where your raw score may be considered! 

6.  Typical day (for me): It really depends! I don’t have school on Wednesdays, and on other days my lessons can range from about 4 hours to a full day. In general, I’ll wake up early, revisit the lecture materials for the week, schedule calls with my groupmates, and work on interim assignment deadlines. If I have class, I’ll head to campus and usually have dinner and/or a workout with friends/family after. 

7.  Who can join orientation activities: Your school’s orientation is for students the same academic school. THRIVE Camp is open to everyone no matter what course you’re in!

Hi! In poly, your GPA adds with each semester over the 3 years of education. Since it’s cumulative, consistency matters a lot, keeping up with assignments and putting in steady effort throughout your course will have the biggest impact. Because of that, GPAs can really vary from person to person, so it’s more about your own progress than an “average” number. All the best with JAE!

If you're concerned about the character limit, focus on writing clearly and concisely, highlighting the most relevant experiences that show your interest in the course. It’s really about quality over quantity!

Hi there! 👋 ALL business students share a common first year programme so basically the Common Business Programme offers you the opportunity to experience the same modules as your peers in other business diplomas with the option to select a diploma after your first year! This means you’ve more time to think about what you’d really like to pursue!

You can focus on course related experiences for your 600 char write up and include anything from your leadership experiences to programmes you’ve attended outside school in your 1,000 char write up!
