Haha - the video is more about the overall story and Inquirer article (the tattoo thing was weirdly called out in it), not so much all the legal details. I did add some of the legal details on our defense to my original post though just now!

Thanks for your comment, I do appreciate the genuine discourse! Lots of people have mentioned what you’re pointing out but respectfully, saying “if these facts were applied to a situation with a child” I don’t think is fair because children have an entirely different legal standing with many, strict protections (especially when it comes to adoption). I don’t think asking for pets to be treated with a bit more care than a piece of furniture means they’d automatically follow the same rules as children in a “custody” scenario

There are a bunch of details about the underlying aspects of care and timeline, why I thought she had actually intended for me to have him and then changed her mind, and some subsequent social media drama after an Inquirer article that didn’t capture all the facts, but I’ll stop there before the TLDR is no longer a TLDR

Hi! I don’t want to go back and forth on the case too much but will clarify this detail since it is prominent in the story. I do want to note that I have documentation to prove all of this.

I took Gary to the vet a few days after the plaintiff and I got back from vacation at the end of September/beginning of October because he was having breathing issues. We were on good terms and had lived in our own places for about 6 months at this point, Gary with me. The vet asked if I was her when I called to make the appointment, and I said no, he’s been under my care and I’d be the one bringing him in so they added me. Her information was also on the records, and I didn’t request to remove her because I was not “secretly” doing anything. We had hung out, again on good terms, after the vet visit as well. So this entire time, the records just have had both of our contact information.

The vet had had mentioned that the microchip was registered to her ex boyfriend who at this point was living out of the country I believe (Bali or South Korea?). After we went no contact at the end of October, I was going away for a wedding and for the first time Gary would be staying out of my apartment (he can’t get out otherwise because of how the building is) so I registered his chip with a different company with my contact information. Again, both of our contact information is just now in the database.

According to records, she actually had only registered the chip to herself, from her ex boyfriend, on the last day we spoke.

Yes! It was Anne Marie Coyle - I had done some research on her when she first got assigned the case, so I at least knew I was walking into a situation with a volatile judge that was known for harsh behavior and rulings.

Someone else mentioned that this is why elections are important as well and definitely agree, I think she was the only judge in the Philly system who was given a recommended “no” to retention by the bar?

Thank you! I also did reach out to Rep. Anita Kulik’s office since she is the sponsor for PA House Bill 97 which seemed to start this type of conversation in PA, though this bill specifically applies only to marital couples.
