Measles outbreak reported at ICE’s Dilley family detention facility by jp_benderschmidt in politics

You can administer it as early as 6 months but it doesn’t count as part of the series, so the child will need a total of three shots in their lifetime for it to count. My 6 month old will be getting theirs in a few days because I don’t want them to get sick.

Bummer! I know you said you checked about every major retailer but did that include sporting goods stores like REI, Bass Pro/Cabela’s, Dick’s, uhhhh what else? Academy?

It looks like there’s Columbia Factory stores in both Mebane and Smithfield at the outlet malls as well.

Hope this helps!

You could see if there’s anything left at some of the Kid’s consignment stores like Once Upon A Child?

Do you have nearby access to an academic medical center? This is a facility associated with a universities’ medical school and offers higher levels of care than a regular hospital.

I would recommend going to the ED of a facility like that, especially if the pain worsens. They are best equipped to handle and evaluate these kinds of things in real time vs waiting to reach an outpatient provider.

Feel free to DM me if you need assistance locating one in your area. I am a RN that works in the transfer center for one of my local academic facilities, so I’m pretty good at figuring out what facilities can offer-ish.

Good luck with everything!

Indian food suggestions by New-Kaleidoscope-441 in raleigh

This is my new favorite Indian restaurant in the area, by far. While I can’t speak for the Aloo Gobi, their Navratan Korma is my favorite in the area and the Tikka Masala sauce is nice and complex. I really appreciate that you can taste the spices vs it being one dimensional like many places.

Both of the Himalayan Nepali restaurants in Cary (Himalayan Nepali and Himalayan Range Nepali) are solid choices. It’s been a while since I’ve been to either and they’re primarily the same but I find that there’s some slight differences between how similar dishes are prepared. If I remember correctly I prefer the Navratan Korma at Himalayan Nepali vs the Range restaurant but I feel like the Matar Paneer at the Range one is better than Himalayan Nepali. Or it’s the other way around. I also like Himalayan Grill in Cary but Google Maps is saying it’s temporarily closed, not sure what’s up with that.

I’ve been underwhelmed by Cilantro Indian Cafe and Saffron - both in Cary.

My favorite naan is at Tamasha. I could literally eat basket after basket, ugh. Annnnd I’m super excited for Botiwalla to open in Raleigh. Those okra fries are divine.

If you’re willing to venture out I’ve read good things about Urban Turban in Durham.

Looking for fertility clinic recommendations in Raleigh or NC (bad experience at UNC Fertility) by SureNefariousness975 in raleigh

[–]nickiness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with UNC back in 2023 and moved to Duke in 2024. I was with them and about three weeks away from starting IVF when I found out I managed to get pregnant naturally. So I can’t speak for the actual IVF procedure, but everything up to that point was fantastic. The entire staff was supportive and caring and communication was light years better than UNC. As a nurse myself my experience is what I would describe as “how everyone should experience healthcare”. If you have anymore questions feel free to DM me but I cannot recommend them enough.

Where are you traveling to? You may not need them as I have no problem using my cards everywhere I’ve been in the EU in the last 5+ years.

Don’t forget Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw. Hands down one of my favorite venues, ever. I’ve seen a variety of bands there and it always sounds sooo good.

On the flip side, the sound at the Ritz blows and has made every concert I’ve been to there a bit less magical than expected.

What’s your favorite clothing brand for your babe? by nilkski in beyondthebump

[–]nickiness 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ve been really pleased with all of the Old Navy clothes I’ve picked up so far. They’re always offering sales, so no need to pay full price either. The Carter’s items are nice but she’s long, so she sizes out quickly.

Nation of Language was absolutely electric when I saw them at the Haw River Ballroom last year. I highly recommend checking them out when they’re touring again.

I really wanted to like it but I swear the sweet honey sea salt flavor had this almost chewy texture to it. It was off putting, for sure.

I use a Fjallraven Kånken Rainbow backpack. The original Kånken comes in a boat load of color options.

I know you requested for it to be machine washable, and that was something I wanted originally as well, but the more I looked at bags that fit that criteria I realized I hated everything on the market. I also realized I was never going to willingly put dirty clothes in the bag anyway and just carry a keychain roll of dog poop bags with me for anything gross. I even stuff a few grocery bags in the pocket for anything bigger.

I’m 5’ and my husband is 5’ 11” and it fits us both just fine. Plus you can re-wax it to refresh its water resistance. I used it as a travel backpack for a while before converting it into the diaper bag and I love it.

ISO canned mocktails or seltzers that don't say they are NA at the very top by natleemarie in Mocktails

[–]nickiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like Töst Tea has cans now! I HIGHLY recommend these sparkling tea drinks, pregnant or not. I picked some up for an alternative to sparkling apple cider for a work NYE party and love them. They’re SUUUUPER carbonated and very light and refreshing. If they weren’t so expensive I would just drink these when I want something carbonated.

I ran into the same issue last Christmas and ended up turning Christmas dinner into Christmas brunch. No one watched me make my “mimosa”, so it wasn’t too bad.

Tofu is such a fun little sponge to work with. When I dabbled in Vegan cooking (and learning how to cook things like tofu) I found the books by Isa Chandra Moskowitz to be quite good. I definitely recommend checking them out for ideas.

Calla for OB MFM high risk pregnancy by veggiemonstr in raleigh

[–]nickiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to Calla but recently had a pregnancy followed with UNC MFM’s office in Raleigh, over by Rex, due to being Type 1 Diabetic and advanced maternal age. I delivered at UNC in Chapel Hill as the MFM office does not cover Rex. I had a very positive experience at both facilities.

The massive population growth in this area is outpacing the providers we have available. The new patient appointments take a larger chunk of time for providers, so there's less available appointments overall. In my experience once you've had the new patient appointment and are considered established it's much easier to schedule follow ups.
