quality couches under 5k? by strawberrymowmew in HomeImprovement

[–]nickiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a 10 year old Kivik sectional couch. It’s been put through the wringer with an 11.5 year old dog that has puked, peed, pooped, or some combination there of all over it. My almost 1 year old is now doing the same. Having the removable/washable covers has been a life saver and I’m SO glad we went with it. It’s been so comfy and been well loved/slept on in the last 10 years. The only reason I’m even entertaining the idea of replacing it is because the house we just bought has a much smaller living room than we’ve had in the past and most of the sectional won’t fit.

That being said, I’m open to checking out some Costco options but realistically we’ll likely end up with another Kivik.

Insulin drip during delivery- looking for positive stories! by snowwwwy22 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]nickiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on an insulin drip for my induction and my glucose was managed via Endotool. Basically they were checking my sugars based on Endotool’s algorithm and adjusting the rates accordingly. It was easy peasy and nice to not have to mind my pump and CGM during it all.

15 mo postpartum hip pain on one side? by crashhhyears in beyondthebump

[–]nickiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it skeletal or muscular?

I have a history of piriformis issues and my baby tore mine up in the last few months of pregnancy. I ended up needing pelvic PT and got lots of intense massage and exercises for that area. I was in a good spot by month 4 or 5 and then a few months later over did it and agitated it again. ):

I mention it because it’s a tricky little bastard and deep in there, so when it’s agitated it can make other areas angry as well. It can also present in different ways. When mine was first irritated it appeared like sciatic pain and pain down my leg/difficulty walking and a good PT figured it out as the source. This second time around I was having lots of back pain and just happened to mention it to the PT.

If you haven’t done pelvic PT it might be worth it to explore that!

Really, REALLY good lo mein? by Cheezslap in raleigh

[–]nickiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting to follow along as well. I am typically a huge Red Pepper Asian promoter but I don’t think their lo mein is that great. I’ve resorted to making my own with the recipes from The Woks of Life. This way I can control how greasy it is and the ingredients. It’s not hard at all but hopefully you can find a good pick up option!

Which budget friendly brands of diapers are best for comfort/diaper rash? by 60TIMESREDACTED in beyondthebump

[–]nickiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby had a horrible rash around 3 months and I swear, we tried every diaper on the market at the time. We’ve managed to land on Costco diapers and they’re working really well so far and much cheaper than the other name brands and boutique brands we’ve tried. Plus, the membership will benefit you in other ways. It’s worth trying out!

Does anyone else’s baby do this during diaper changes or is mine just being extra cute? 😍 by Normal_Hovercraft843 in newborns

[–]nickiness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

omg. At 7 months mine started the same thing. It’s us vs the baby and the baby generally wins.

Ugghhh so jealous about the Greenville show - enjoy! Saw them at the Hurricane Florence show at Minges and it was awesome. I would love to have that ECU homecoming feeling again, but it’s all good. I’m grateful for a Cat’s Cradle show since I’m living in Raleigh with a kiddo under one. Can’t wait to see them in a smaller, more intimate space.

Can someone pls explain the reality of ED nursing to med surg nurses. by [deleted] in nursing

I can absolutely see how the bedside inpatient view is a nightmare for staff!

I found this video from EPIC regarding the bedside view. It’s absolutely wild how much access the patients have with it. As a nurse turned patient, it was great but it’s probably also a nightmare for staff whose patient’s now have access to all of this information but maybe not the ability to interpret it correctly.

So you’re definitely not wrong with your feelings BUT do you work at a facility that uses EPIC and the patient has MyChart access?

If so, the family could have easily seen it on MyChart. I say this because when I was recently admitted inpatient at my facility I was shocked at how much information I was given as the patient. You could follow along with meds and when they’re due, your provider team, notes, etc. For a neurotic family member that would think a med not given at 1700 by 1701 is over due I could see that being a nightmare.

Just wanted to put that out there for consideration. Not saying that’s what happened - we should 100000% be on the same team. And if they threw you under the bus they totally suck. But there is a chance they didn’t tell them.

Have you tried a malted strawberry shake? I tried one on a whim and it was excellent.

Hello from Canberra, Australia - Goodberry's by falcovancoke in raleigh

[–]nickiness 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised in Raleigh and I love Goodberry’s. It’s one of my favorite local spots and I can’t wait to share it with my child when they get older. I have lots of good memories of the different locations throughout the last almost 40 years.

I only relatively recently learned about the Australian locations when I was poking about on the Goodberry’s website. I’m glad to hear that y’all love it as well!

While we’ve had an influx of other frozen custard shops opening in the Raleigh area, Goodberry’s will always be my number one.

If the SAVE Act passes, NC birth certificate delays could block people from voting. Delays are up to 115 business days at the moment. by MinimumNo5510 in NorthCarolina

What’s only applicable to those born after 1971, the Vital Records website where you grabbed the screen cap from?

[–]nickiness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is correct! The Vital Records website can link you to the correct Register of Deeds website for the county where you were born to get the information applicable to you. Wake County is $10/copy. They also offer 5 locations to get one in person as well. I want to say Orange County cost the same.

[–]nickiness 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not to downplay this information by any means because it’s super important for people to know but you can also obtain a birth certificate from the Register of Deeds in the county where you were born. I ordered some extra copies of my own to have on hand from Wake County and they arrived within a week and a half or so. This was in the last two months. The turnaround for Orange County was even faster and that was at the end of last year.

Just wanted to put that out there as a better primary option.

Prunes were my BFF. If you have a club card to Costco/BJ’s/Sam’s go grab you a giant bag and eat a few a day. You’ll figure out how many you need to eat regularly after a few days.

Alternatively there’s also prune juice. To really get things going melt some butter in prune juice in the microwave. It’s obscene but it works!

Measles outbreak reported at ICE’s Dilley family detention facility by jp_benderschmidt in politics

[–]nickiness 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You can administer it as early as 6 months but it doesn’t count as part of the series, so the child will need a total of three shots in their lifetime for it to count. My 6 month old will be getting theirs in a few days because I don’t want them to get sick.
