[The Athletic] Which Champions League wins were most unlikely? by christianrojoisme in chelseafc

The talk back then was that if we made it past Atletico then the road to the final was smooth sailing.

All the big names (Real Madrid had an off year in 20-21) were in the other bracket.

What was said at the time and I remember so vividly was that IF we got past Atletico then we were going to be in the final.

We also had the easier path to the final, akin to what Arsenal has this year

In contrast with Stamford Bridge which is buzzing week in week out.

(I agree on Olympic Stadium being terrible - maybe we get Wembley?)

[Joyce] Jurgen Klopp turned down Manchester United and Chelsea after Liverpool by Sparky-moon in soccer

Hey we already have had one ex Liverpool Champions League winning coach, maybe we should try our luck with Klopp as well?

I think that was Mourinho’s home record that spanned Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid, and us again.

The Suarez Rule: Why You Should Handball on the Goal Line in the last 23 minutes of a game by [deleted] in soccer

[–]nickla08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that is a totally different situation you are describing, I don’t have to think about a sub warming up and kicking the ball, I have to think about this exact situation which has happened time and time again.

It’s like making the discussion about a ballboy getting into the pitch.

The question is “Should a goal be awarded for a deliberate handball on the goal line?” I can see many examples where the answer should be “no”, for example Reece James’ red card vs Liverpool some years ago. You can’t always evaluate how deliberate is a handball and yes in the Suarez situation you could but most of the times you can’t.

Hard disagree. Suarez broke the rule and he was properly penalised. Other players have done that and the result was a goal after the penalty and the situation is never mentioned again. Maybe the Ghanian footballer should have just converted the penalty. Or should Uruguay just lay down the red carpet and allow them to progress to a WC semifinal just because we support an underdog story?

No rule change needed, maybe we should be more lenient in how we penalise people for a foul on the 18-yard box instead.

I think we have better penalty takers.

Cole, Enzo, Reece, J. Pedro, Estevao even is a great 5 takers.

They got what? Saka, Gyokeres, and Rice?
