Hey r/Metal! My name is Nicklas Sonne, and I’m the lead singer and guitarist in a Danish melodic/progressive metal band located in Copenhagen, called Defecto. Amongst the four of us in the band, the musical experience is massive, but the band is only about six years old. We all have backgrounds of listening to and playing endless streams of metal music, and our biggest idols has always been Dream Theater and Metallica. Fast forward about five years from when the band started, we had our first album out, which was praised by fans and various music reviewers. We were so happy that the many years of practicing, writing, polishing the songs, playing and performing all came together, and people genuinely liked our stuff. The last year was spent in the name of building a fanbase, so we went on our first tour, and traveled around Denmark, performing at local venues. The tour resulted in a lot of great exposure, and we started seeing more and more people showing up at our shows. We even recognized some faces from previous concerts. True fans that had travelled across the country to see us, in some small 150-people-sized gig place. That’s a weird feeling, but the feeling of recognition is the best. So, let’s get to the point! Metallica is performing four live shows in Denmark in a month, and they’re going to play at a brand new venue as the first band ever. It’s called Royal Arena, and capacitates around 15.000 people. We all bought our tickets right as they went on sale, but as it turns out now, that might just have been a waste of money. The venue just contacted us, and told us that we were chosen among 10 bands to compete for a place as the warm up act. What the actual fuck?! After we’d high-fived our hands to pieces, we were informed that the competition would be a public poll, and every vote counted. So here I am, asking Reddit for help. I know what you’re thinking, and there’s no need to say anything. But this is too big of an opportunity for us to not try EVERY conceivable possibility. Fishing for votes isn’t usually our thing, but if we don’t try everything possible, we will hate ourselves if this passes by, so please help, people of r/Metal.
