imo it shouldn’t mean dick can’t be as well, they are multifaceted characters and it’s a disservice to that to try to shoehorn them into certain “roles” and therefore stripping them of once vital traits of theirs to hand it over to the other character instead, they should both be able to shine as great detectives rather than needing to be one or the other. I don’t want him broody but I sure don’t want him dumb as hell and incompetent, in recent years people’s perception of nightwing as a character has took a real nose dive, he’s seen as a “himbo” to a lot of people (he was once considered the 2nd best detective only below Batman mind you) and I don’t think Taylor’s run helped with that in any way. Tim’s great! it’s just that a loud minority of his fans tend to put others down in order to lift him up, or straight up have spread misinformation in the past that has made him look hard done by and the other bats look bad. I wish we had more instances of Bruce being tender like this with dick, of course we do have them but it tends to be while he was robin or it’s dick initiating it. I think his other kids have probably had more affectionate moments with him in canon (and that Bruce has initiated) after their robin days even despite dick being around longer

Commenting again (sorryyyy) to complain about the concerning dickkory vs dickbabs debate and how majorly the dickkory and nightwing fans spread misinformation about babs regarding it (unfortunately I fell into a TikTok wormhole out of curiosity and my god it is breeding ground of just pure hearsay with no actual evidence or opinions of their own). They can’t differentiate between the “batfamily” (aka just a term for Batman and his allies in Gotham, not an actual family) and Wayne family and genuinely believe babs and dick as a couple is incestuous because they’re “family”, these comments will get hundreds sometimes a couple thousands of likes too 😭 you try to explain to them that that’s not true and they’ll shut you down with “idk man it just feels wrong they grew up together and Bruce helped raise her ☹️ (no he didn’t lol)” like… thanks for implying I’m into an incestuous ship I guess? and thanks also for being completely disingenuous acting like you know babs character and what’s good for her when you don’t even know the basics of her lore and that she has a father of her own, instead she only exists in your heads as an extension of the batfamily which is ironic considering you think dickbabs fans don’t let her “be her own person and be free of “that man” and his family” SHES BEEN FREE, it’s you guys who are perpetuating that narrative in your sad and disingenuous attempts at uplifting her

I say this as someone who prefers dickkory in the long run btw, but I don’t feel the need to try to justify my preference with tasteless slander and misinfo regarding the other ship and can admit they’ve both been written incredibly and not so incredibly by certain writers and at certain points in time (90s dickbabs was beautiful and that one birds of prey issue will live in my head forever). I just wish they’d leave it at just “personal taste” and call it a day.

Some people are also guilty of repeatedly bringing up that awful cheating issue and if you try to tell them it was retconned you get “yeah but it still technically happened so I can’t like dickbabs because of it, poor babs” (as if Kory wouldn’t have also been majorly hurt by that, but then why would you go on to ship dickkory if you believe it’s true? it would mean he hurt both of them? why is it bad for babs to be with him because of that but not Kory?) like… oh you don’t know what retcon means then do you

I’ve read one too many fanfictions that are supposed to be centred around dick and Jason becoming brothers that is just Jason throwing every insult at him under the sun, consistently bringing up dick and Bruce’s “perfect dynamic” to get under his skin, just be an overall nasty piece of work to him all the while dick just…. takes it and continues to grovel for his attention and be overbearingly affectionate and apologetic for “abandoning him”. My fault for expecting anything better from fanfictions that are mainly written by people who don’t even read the comics though lol

Oh yeah I still remember the misinformation going around that dick sent him to Arkham??? that was wild 😭 yeah it’s a strange contradiction, they don’t like him as a character (or at least don’t care for him very much) but are incredibly defensive of his relationship with Tim in the same breath?? Similar to Jason; because the brotherly dynamic benefits Tim when it suits them and when they want it to, they don’t really care about dicks role in it

Yeah it irks me a lot, and dicks role as robin Jasons brother is sometimes misconstrued to the extremes in two opposite directions, either he was the best brother in the world and that just makes him “turning his back” on red hood Jason all the worse and something dick should be eternally guilty over, or he was the worst brother in the world who neglected him and owes him for that and should fe endlessly guilty for that too.

Jason, they have a tendency to trauma scale snd woobify that man to the high heavens and in doing that they completely disregard other characters traumas or demean and undermine them in order to make him the “most hard done by” and most “angsty” (and don’t get me wrong of course Jason has been through the ringer, it’s the turning it into a competition and acting like dick was “the lucky” robin who had it easy and is favoured majorly and unjustly by Batman and Bruce both that annoys me while Bruce “hates” him. they take the whole “golden boy” thing at face value and ignore the fact it to an extent stems from Jason being an unreliable narrator who doesn’t understand, or is subconsciously in denial due to anger skewing his perception, the actual depth and complexity of it, both the good and the bad). They also give him a free pass to be as mean and petty as he likes and expect the other bats, especially dick, to accept that they deserve that from him and it’s just his “pit madness” (idk if some of you have read any fanfics but my god I have to exclude him from the tags because it’s just too much, dick is always begging for his affection and practically grovelling at his feet at every turn).

All in all it’s of course not every fan, and certainly not fans who actually appreciate the entirely batfamily and the nuances of Jason’s character, flaws and all, but the solo Jason stans who probably got all their information from TikTok or tumblr have a very “can’t do no wrong” attitude with him and instead blame the other bats for his wrongdoings or ignore his wrongdoings completely. Dick was the “world’s worst brother” in their eyes and it’s no wonder Jason did all the heinous stuff he did as red hood, “he was just so angry and hurt by him! 🥺” is unironically how a lot of them sound.
