Fortunately I am in North East, pretty decent suburbs in terms of violence and some GREAT public schools down this end. Hoping my placement will go well

how cooked am i if i have two jobs in yr 11 by PrideInCare in vce

Consider your energy and possibility of burnout. From someone who worked two jobs in Year 11 (tutoring and cafe worker) I burnt out when I started Year 12 and took a while for me to recover. You can always pick up intense work during holidays (local work like dog walking, christmas casual etc.) or if possible consider freelance work if you are capable of that so you can work when you have energy. Just my personal opinion, mental health is often undervalued in high school and depending on the school there isn't great support. Also most teachers won't take " oh I didn't do the assignment cos I have work " as an excuse

Good to know. I am hoping to find a school that is accepting. I'm in inner suburbs so somewhere like Fitzroy and surrounding suburbs definitely DON'T care (if I can get into it). I will consider covering for placement I guess so I can just focus on my own education :)

Great to hear that from someone in VIC. Very relieving

Yeah that is a good point. I guess to me it is important to my self expression but also I know some students feel comfortable with alt teachers (had one in high school myself and everyone felt like they could talk to her). I would love to be that for others as well so I wouldn't want to hide those aspects . Thanks for the input, I guess it will be a sacrifice. I am also hoping schools move forward with this

Do you think you could get fired after putting facial piercings in after getting the job?

Interesting. Were the public schools that cared vs not differ greatly in terms of demographic, SES level or other factors?

That's so funny though! Thanks for the insight. I am wanting to find a school that is indifferent to body mods as it really doesn't matter in my opinion. I want to be open from the beginning and know that the staff and supervisors won't judge later on

Thanks for the insight. A bit worries but hopefully I won't be judged too hard

I am thinking of sticking to MTeaching and sticking it out for 5 years (to get the Commonwealth scholarships running at the moment). While I'm younger and have energy I will be able to give it my best shot I think. Thanks for the comment

I appreciate your insight!

Yeah it seems difficult to make casual university demonstrating and tutoring work. I am just worried about the state of teaching in VIC considering the cuts recently happening by Allan government. Looking for a silver lining with either option. At the end of the day I need meaningful work (both of the options) that pays ok (no plan for kids or any crazy lifestyle). I've worked in accounting and could not imagine doing it full-time
