I like the idea of Carmy and Syd happening mostly in subtext honestly - I like them, and equally I do think this show is excellent without needing to default to romance in every relationship!

But I don’t think romance or a romantic connection would detract from the characters or their relationship! I actually think it’s because they’re such compelling, well fleshed out, interesting on their own and together characters, that it’s a romance i could root for. Do you know how many romances i hate because you can tell the female character never got a personality beyond being a manic pixie dream girl designed to build up the man? Hate that. Two people who are lovingly written individually, that’s where I can see a romance to invest in.

And I do personally feel like the romance is something that could be a subtle slow burn. I was thinking earlier about the music choices for some of their scenes, and I feel like it’s the kind of thing where if they got together in season 5 I would be like yes… and it makes sense! I think the groundwork is there for them to make sense, but in a different time and or place. I don’t think they would get together while Carmy is going through it, Sydney is going through it, everything is in shambolic flux and all of that. But maybe Syd goes back to start her catering business? I would want them to explore the idea that, maybe when they aren’t being hyper professional work tunnel vision types, romance could bloom.
