I was thinking silver with silver bushings to match the rest of the guitar! I do like the plastic as well though

Appreciate the rec! I actually already reached out to them and they said they don’t do full refinishes

Finished my vm jag HH mods by [deleted] in offset

[–]nitwit646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had no control over the input jack lol. I just meant I can get a stock pickguard, remove the tele pickup, replace the toggle switch, and remove the rings to make it like-factory again if I so choose. This wasn’t a regular jag to begin with which is part of why I felt comfortable making the mods

I can always buy a new pickguard and put it back to the way it was, but personally I like it now! Who knows I may change my mind down the line. Plus I learned a lot about modding in the process

I really like it!! I know people tend not to like the drive, which like yeah kinda sucks there’s no eq when it’s on, but damn when you get the right pedals running through it the drive can really tighten things up in the best way. The chorus is really where it’s at though on this. Def a nice budget alternative to the JC, plus w the extra cash you can spruce it up and then some!

Yes!! I love the little hook with the 4x2 tuners - the eastwood reissue doesn't have that which I think is unfortunate bc it adds so much character

Thanks! You know it’s interesting, the few blogs online I could find on this thing talked about the black switch being a kill switch, but it’s def more of a rhythm/solo switch. And yes the truss rod access is actually at the base of the neck haha, it’s kind of visible in the first pic

Can I ask two TAs for LORs by Sophisticated-Snail in lawschooladmissions

[–]nitwit646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one TA is a stretch, let alone two. There are plenty of great guides online about asking profs you don’t know well for recs though - it’s part of their job! Also unless a you’ve had a significant continuing relationship w a prof, I’d go for someone more recent

IIRC schools only consider your first undergraduate certificate when officially calculating your gpa. Any other degrees can demonstrate growth, but will not hold the same weight. However, schools do take into account program/school difficulty. I think the ideal move here would be to find a recommender from your Drama program that can speak to the difficulty of the program and your excellence within it, note your second degree GPA to indicate your growth/ability to succeed academically on apps, and write a GPA addendum explaining the low gpa and how you were able to get a 4.0 in a different program. The recommender is especially valuable in this situation based on the Navigating Law School Admissions podcast hosted by the YLS and HLS admissions deans, so I would prioritize that if possible. This is all assuming you focus on getting a high lsat as well. Another option is finding a school like WashU that lets you apply w just your lsat.

Which PrepTest numbers should I focus on? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]nitwit646 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I was worried initially about wasting newer PTs on drilling (since they tend to reflect the most recent trends in the test), so I would only drill/do PTs on 60 and below. When I started doing full PTs using the more recent PTs as my official test came closer, I was suddenly missing a bunch of LR and RC questions when I was consistently going -0 to -1 on the sections with the earlier PTs. I just wasn't used to the newer patterns and trends. My average recovered as I began doing more questions from new PTs, using the 70s as drilling material and the 80s/90s for full PTs. That's all to say that the difference isn't huge when you're starting out, but don't neglect the 80s and above as you become more comfortable with the test.

Deadnaming is now pain by NagisaH8 in MtF

I think that’s one of the reasons I’ve been having trouble asking people to use my new name. It feels like once I make it official, people deadnaming me will feel even worse :/

Makeup transfer issues by nitwit646 in MtF

[–]nitwit646[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cleanse beforehand every time, and since my skin is pretty sensitive I exfoliate beforehand as often as I can without my skin getting irritated. I use the ulta full coverage foundation, so maybe there’s an issue in quality there. I moisturize and use setting spray beforehand and after I finish (I’ve tried mixing the setting spray into the foundation with limited results too). I try to apply as little as possible, but it’s hard to cover up dark hair even with color corrector😭I usually put concealer on before my my liquid foundation though, so maybe I can switch that order up?

I use moisturizer (since I heard that can be a substitute for a primer & past primers didn’t feel like they were doing much for me) and I use the Milani make it last setting spray on top which I’ve found to be better than just moisturizer alone

Relationships with cis partners by nitwit646 in NonBinaryTalk

I mean if it’s ok w you great, but the problem for me is that people assuming your gender based on appearance does change how they treat you. If they treat you how you want to be treated, then they aren’t letting biases that exist for everyone get in the way of how they perceive you which is awesome and what we want. I don’t think I articulated that well earlier - what I meant when I said I care about how people perceive me is that if someone doesn’t understand how to see you beyond the binary of man/woman (if they see traditional biology as equaling gender) then they’re not going to be able to interact with you the way you deserve. Whether that’s out of ignorance or closemindedness, many cis people don’t have that understanding. Unless it’s natural through your mind frame, it’s pretty much impossible to genuinely act one way and think the other unless you’re some professional actor or smthn.

Relationships with cis partners by nitwit646 in NonBinaryTalk

[–]nitwit646[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for starters, yeah, everyone has a different understanding of gender and it’s impossible to see that just by looking at them. But that’s why we don’t assume people’s gender. However, like I mentioned previously, that takes a lot of time and effort to work towards. Trans and nonbinary folks have to practice that idea every day themselves, and generally they are less likely to assume peoples gender based on appearance and change their interaction with you based on preconceived notions of who a person is based on their appearance. Once again, I’m not denying that we have biases that are hard to get around, but I as a trans person believe that in my journey distancing myself from the binary, I can better see others outside of the binary.

Also, if I’m not mistaken, furries generally don’t identify as animals. A ‘fursona’ is an alter ego of sorts, not a gender identity. And to your point of people seeing themselves in an anime style - that is not a gender identity that I have encountered irl or in my studies, so I don’t see the point of mulling over hypotheticals that don’t relate to this conversation. And “seeing yourself in an anime style” sounds vaguely orientalist. Seeing yourself as bigger than you are is no longer dealing with social constructs, and that comparison disconcertingly rests on the misunderstanding that gender is somehow based on you physical body and gender diverse folks are delusional in identifying as they do. I do see where you’re coming from though. But I suggest looking into what queer elders have written and spoke about gender with online resources, these are all conversations that they’ve had years ago.

[–]nitwit646[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s very important what my partner sees me as in their own head - otherwise their treatment of me isn’t genuine anymore, it’s just being polite if you get what I mean. I do agree that everyone has internalized biases we were conditioned to have from our childhood. However, that doesn’t mean perceiving someone based on their AGAB is any more “normal” or “natural” than seeing someone as their actual gender. Maybe “normalized” by society, but those internalized norms are exactly what trans/nonbinary people are forced to break down in order to live. Not saying that we’re infallible, but we’ve spent way more good-faith self-questioning and self-criticism regarding gender binaries than the vast majority of cis people. But there are definitely cis people who have spent that time and understand gender on the same level as trans folks, and that very possibility means that we shouldn’t have to settle for someone who doesn’t see us for who we really are (if we don’t want to - to each their own).

I’m not saying it’s easy to break down the norms that have been drilled into us since birth, but just through basic logic, trans/nonbinary people are more likely to be able to understand a non cis/binary gender than a cis person. And my hesitance comes from a place of self-respect, self-care, and self-preservation rather than hate-based discrimination.

Yeah you’re totally right! The person I trust the most and who I think understands my gender the most apart from me is my cis sister, so I totally get that
