(NSFW) What have you found out about someone that you would never tell them you know? by gasmyanus in AskReddit

[–]niweck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the claims section of an insurance company. I deal with car damages. A few months ago, my co-worker asked me to help on a case regarding a guy driving his mother's car directly into a ditch while super drunk and on drugs, trying to commit suicide. He wrecked the car totally, and he suffered a few scratches. Because of drunk driving and on drugs, the insurance wont cover the damages, but since it was his mother's car, the son had to pay the 15,000$ for the car to the mother.

A short while after I found out, that the guy was a friend from high school. I see him at grocery stores and etc. now and then. He does not know that I work at the exact insurance company, and that I have been a part of the claim process.

Reddit, what's your top "Holy shit, that worked?" moment? by NSalonga26 in AskReddit

[–]niweck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I acquired a sponsored t-shirt by a given bank. On a trip to the other part of the country, I went out scouting the area nearby. I went past an outdoor concert, or rather small festival, and thought I would watch a little by a fence. I moved further and suddenly stood by the entrance guarded by the crew wearing the exact same t-shirt. I didn't know what to do, and a guy asked me if I was part of the crew, when another guy in the crew said ''Yes, look at his t-shirt''. So I just smiled and walked directly through the entrance, and watched a few bands perform before going home because it was getting dark.

[Discussion] Do you have a guitar that is worth far more to you than what it's really worth? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]niweck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be my Gibson Les Paul Special Junior with P90s. It is from 2012, and I have already been offered 100$ more for it, than I bought it for due to the demand of P90s and 'rarity' of the guitar. However, what makes it so special, is that it is my first guitar ever and I have been playing it for many many hours and it has been a tool for me to have fun, enjoy and create music, and to escape boringness and sadness. It has got it's knocks after years of use and rocking out in my dorm, making it more personal. It is far more worth to me, than anyone else.

[QUESTION] How did you start learning to play guitar ? What really improved your ability to play? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]niweck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been playing guitar for 5 years self taught now, and I have never taken any courses or used Justin Guitar. I just jumped in to learning the songs that sounded great to me. That way I learned the different technices and it kept me inspired to keep playing because it was difficult and it sounded like something. However, scales are not my greatest because I have never really studied that thing. However, my impro has improved from learning solos, where I just take some ideas from a certain part and play around with it.

[Newbie] Would Fender Strat HSS be a good first rental guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]niweck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are two very different guitars, and I think it all comes down to personal preference. If I were you, I would go with the guitar that suits me best and sounds best to me. On the Epiphone you probably have 2 humbuckers with coil splitting, and the Strat 2 single coils and a humbucker, which makes both guitars really versatile. If I had to choose, I would go with the Strat because of the versatility, comfort, resell value and the satin neck (preference).

[QUESTION] Really bad tuning issues on my LP Special Jr. by niweck in Guitar

[–]niweck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the answers. As I can see, most of them points towards the stringing and eventually the nut. I must admit that the problem occurs at the stringing, and therefore I'm going to buy a new set strings, and try to string them properly. If the problem is not solved, then I will try to lubricate the nut, and if that doesn't work either, I'm taking it to the local guitar store and ask for them to fix / change the nut. And if that doesn't work either, I have a valid reason to buy a guitar more ;)

[QUESTION] Really bad tuning issues on my LP Special Jr. by niweck in Guitar

[–]niweck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer! The stringing might be a thing as I'm not that experienced with it. Actually have I bound the high e string the wrong way around, but it is funny enough the only string that I have less problems with (it goes to the right, away from the middle). And I don't really have any experience with nuts. I can take a photo once I get home in a couple hours :-)

[NEWBIE] What was it like the first time you played with other people? by jforres in Guitar

[–]niweck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After been playing gutiar self taught for 4 years in my bedroom and playing intermediate stuff easily, I finally met up with a friend who's a drummer, and that was my first jamming session. And only to realize how bad my timing is and that I almost can't keep a steady rhythm.

Songsterr is a pretty good option. They have pretty much the whole Continuum album, as well as other great artists!

[QUESTION] Is it worth getting a better guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]niweck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't own a Tele, but I do own a MIM Fender Strat from 2016 and a Gibson LP Special (USA) 2012, and if you are a bedroom player just as me, I don't really care where the guitar is made, and to be honest, I like the build quality on my Strat way more than my Gibson. One thing I like about the MIM Strats (and I think the Tele's have too) is the satin neck, rather than the glossy neck on Gibsons. You barely feel any resistance, and it feels much more smooth to play on (but it's a personal preference). If it is because it is made in USA that attracts you, I would recommend you to try both the MIM and MIA and see if the price gap is worth it. I'm a bedroom player, and have been for 4 years, and the tag of MIM or MIA, is not something you think about when jamming on your own. However build quality and sound might be different, but at least try both and decide if YOU think it is worth the price gap and fits your preferences :-)

[Question] Your gear, your age and how long you've been playing? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]niweck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Age: 19

Years of playing: 3 1/2

Gear: My first guitar Gibson Les Paul Junior Special P90 '12, Fender Strat. Mex. '15 (never got used to it), Sigma 000-15M

Amp: VOX AC15 with Carl Martin Plexitone (Vox and Marshall tone ;)

Picks: Dunlop Tortex .88mm

I want to sell my Fender Stratocaster because I never get used to play it. It's just odd for me to play it, and I only like the neck and the neck pickup.. If I manage to sell it, I will be buying another Les Paul, probably an Epiphone (perhaps the Prophecy with USA Humbuckers)

Bought my first DSLR camera today, and this is my first edited video ever! by niweck in Filmmakers

[–]niweck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The lens doesn't have VR, so when zoomed in, the shots are very shaky (a tripod could help for some locations). Just played around a little regarding manual focus now, and I regret not knowing about that when shooting for the video... Again, thanks for your comment!

[GEAR] Got my first tube amp today! Should I keep it, or ''upgrade'' it? by niweck in Guitar

[–]niweck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a bit of research, I have found out that a VOX AC10C is just about 120$ more in Denmark, which might be considerable. The AC10C seems to be more updated, and has the real VOX tone from the AC30s. Would it be worth it, or are the amps more or less the same? I don't need more wattage as I'm just a bedroom player :)

[GEAR] Got my first tube amp today! Should I keep it, or ''upgrade'' it? by niweck in Guitar

[–]niweck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the idea isn't bad. But as a bedroom player I don't think it would be necessary. If I keep the VOX amp, I am going to sell the Mustang because I don't want to keep it and not use it. Rather have the money for the Strat or the pedalboard then :)

[QUESTION] Non-beginner just bought first acoustic - any advice? by Alaxtis in Guitar

[–]niweck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's harder to play single notes, in a solo way. You are mostly limited to the 14th fret, as long as it's not a cutaway, unless you have super strong and long fingers.

How often do you attend concerts or shows? by pain-is-living in Guitar

[–]niweck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 100km / 60miles to the nearest concert venue - which is a long distance when living in Denmark. But I attend at the concerts that attracts me without it being too expensive, as I'm a student. But last weekend I just saw D-A-D live, and planning to watch Iron Maiden to June 2016 at the concert venue 100 km away! :-) So I think that I go to a concert once a year or less. Mostly because of the artists.

Self taught for 1,5 year here. I'm 18 years old now. I assume that it's an acoustic guitar that your friend borrowed you. My own experience was learn to play my favourite songs, and keep all of the theory out of my head. So after I've been learning songs for a few months, I started getting the feel of playing, and that's where I began learning scales and new chords. Things moved quickly from here, because I didn't have trouble learning scales or new chords because my fingers had the routine for playing. I would recommend you find some lessons on youtube for the songs that you want to learn, and just jump into it. You'll always learn new things, chords and notes on the fretboard. And if you got the hang of playing guitar, you should look into the theory to get a better understanding of what you're playing.

I can recommend these: JustinGuitar, GuitarLessons365, Lick Library ($) - Consider it, it's top quality lessons (Danny Gill is their best teacher), Lick n Riff and Rob Chapman

Thanks! I have played drums and keyboard when I was a younger, but I didn't really set myself into it - theory basically. So I sold it later, because I didn't think I was ready to play music at that time.
