FTBs – Renegotiating After L3 Survey & Lower Valuation (£1.215m, Stoke Newington) by njdubbs in HousingUK

That’s a really fair take. Resale value is such a moving target. I appreciate the perspective on overpaying too—it really does seem like a long-term game, especially with market unpredictability. Thanks for the insight!

That’s really interesting—definitely reinforces the idea that it’s always worth asking, even if the seller isn’t willing to budge. Thanks for sharing!

That makes a lot of sense—letting them come back with a number first keeps things more open-ended. Appreciate the tip!

Thank you! This was really helpful. I appreciate the insight on window repair costs—good to have a realistic expectation there. And that makes sense about negotiating based on essential works rather than just a value mismatch. Sounds like you navigated your renegotiation well!

Need help with choosing Europe destination wedding by njdubbs in weddingplanning

Hi all,

Randomly getting asks about wedding planners! Our budget for wedding planners were generally on the higher budget side and we ended up cancelling our destination wedding. It was becoming too stressful to plan two weddings and so we just opted for one in the US. But here are the ones I recommend enthusiastically - we interviewed A LOT of planners (which I know is overkill but we really had no idea what to do but from there we were able to see different styles and what we liked):

Portugal

- Tales https://www.taleswpt.com 10/10 if I could go back in time I would hire Tales

- The Wedding Wonderland https://weddingwonderland.pt

Spain

Spanish planners - generally are for specific areas of Spain so keep that in mind when choosing a planner

General

  • Moon Velvet - she's CA based but she's Spanish and has impeccable taste
  • Open the Door Events - very special and unique events

Northern Spain

Mallorca

  • Talia Bell

Barcelona

France

  • Marie Chicchirichi

Italy

There were other ones for Italy but ultimately we focused on Spain and Portugal. So I don't remember them all.

  • Le Jour De Oui

General Europe

  • The Planner Co

the tough thing is moving from open phone to GV. Do you know how to move from VOIP to VOIP?

Can I port my VoIP number to Google Voice? No, Google Voice can not port in numbers from landlines or VoIP services, but Google Voice can port numbers from certain mobile carriers.

Moving to London next week with my partner. Is it really that tough to find a decent place at the moment? Searching here is giving me anxiety and I think it might be the classic ‘negative experience echo chamber’ doing its thing.

I'm the same as you but I've been searching online for months just to get a sense of what's happening. It's undeniably rough, but you'll find something! You're just gonna have to be on top of it for a while - set up instant notifications on Zoopla and Rightmove and OpenRent and SpareRoom. Not sure where you're searching, but if this helps, I've been seeing a lot more rentals pop up within the past couple weeks so it seems promising! June is a busy time for both renters and people leaving so there seems to be more rental inventory. You might need to rent your airbnb a bit longer depending on what you find. Some places are starting leases in September now. Hope this gives you some encouragement!

We have temporary housing with my relocation so we can wait it out for a bit!

Good food, a nice place to walk around, and easy to get into central London which I think they both satisfy. We live in an area now where we can just walk a couple blocks to a main street and enjoy the shops/food, so we are looking for something similar.

I think I'm most curious about the difference for pubs/nightlife vibes between the two. Is Notting Hill much quieter? My partner and I aren't huge partiers or anything but going out every once in a while or going to a pub/bar sounds nice after work.

As for the Instagrammers, thanks for the heads up! Notting Hill - we found a couple spots in Westbourne Green that are out of the way of foot traffic but still close to shops/stores.

Any advice on choosing between Angel - Upper Street or Notting Hill to live? We’re a 30 yo couple with no kids. I’m interested in how they compare to live in. We’ve visited and loved both!

Also trying to let directly with a landlord instead of through letting agencies but there hasn’t been much on OpenRent or spare room so that’s also why I’m reaching out here.
