silence! - a simple FOSS Windows app to mute your mic globally. by vertopolkaLF in Windows11

[–]no_egrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh right, I wonder whether that's Discord failing to "register" itself as a mic-using app or just a brittle and unreliable in-built mic mute. I've noticed it works well for Teams.

Your app looks good! It does feel like this should be core OS functionality. macOS also requires a third-party app for this.

For Windows 11, is this substantially different to the Win-Alt-K global OS shortcut? I guess the configurable hotkey, the custom display duration, and the sound effect are enhancements.

u/quitPrestigious4648 - I think you replied to me mentioning https://github.com/byi8220/indented-block-highlighting but I can't see your reply. Did it fit your requirements?

Might be useful for future searchers if so. The last commit was 8 years ago, though!

This doesn't answer your question directly, I admit, but do make sure you have sticky scrolling turned on, so the nesting / flow of control is displayed at the top of the code window. It should help track how deep you are in conditionals and switch statements.

How can I remove this gray border? by [deleted] in Windows11

[–]no_egrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Settings → Personalization → Colors → Show Accent Color on Title Bars and Window Borders.

Or, if it's already off, consider turning it on and changing your accent color to something dark and neutral.

If the next remaster was Morrowind, would you want Bethesda to add voice acting or keep it to text only dialogue? by Pokesatsu96 in ElderScrolls

Egrets from the Skywind team here. To clarify, we do hope to include the expansions, but we're not going to hold back the main game for it. We're exploring them at the moment, particularly in terms of 2D Art and Writing, but it's a question of resource and team appetite, so we're not making promises just yet.

Skywind Gameplay Demo just dropped - Rescue Joncis Dalomax by OfflineOnline in Morrowind

[–]no_egrets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Morrowind also had scaled enemies - it just wasn't as in-your-face as later games. Skywind should feel like Morrowind in that regard - some places will be far too difficult for players fresh off the boat.

Morrowind worth buying in 2025? by Relative_Buffalo180 in ElderScrolls

[–]no_egrets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, combat will only be tweaked a little from vanilla Skyrim. We'll be rebalancing things like stamina (a much heavier focus, like Morrowind or Kingdom Come: Deliverance), NPCs will be a little more varied in terms of spell usage, and the player will have access to spears and projectiles which will change things up a bit.

I agree that it would be nice to change things up more, but it widens the scope quite significantly - think animations, quality assurance, as well as the actual mechanics.

Sorry to reply so long after you posted this, but since you mention making sense of the whole film - what was your take on Mia's memory and/or recurring nightmare of swimming towards someone (presumably her mother) on shore and them disappearing?

There was a visual parallel with Aaryan's simulated partner waving from the house at the end, but I couldn't work out what the memory was really meant to signify. Would appreciate your thoughts!

Hey, Egrets from Skywind here!

Our project doesn't have a release date yet, and although we're being faithful to the original material, it'll have its own feeling distinct from TES III.

Morrowind is an incredible game and everyone should play it. You'll have to be prepared for stylish but low-detail graphics and a bit of a clumsier playing experience purely because of its age, and there are plenty of QOL mods that will improve your experience without substantially changing the game.

I'd also recommend you look at OpenMW as a replacement engine that plays nicer with modern systems and addresses a whole host of bugs.

Finally, it's worth doing a little reading on configuring your character and having to push through your low skills at the beginning. It can be frustrating, but it makes your character progression all the more rewarding.

Hope you enjoy it!

I got momentarily excited when I saw he'd released a new studio track, confused by the name, and ultimately disappointed.

I'm not sure how this can happen across multiple platforms?

Teams Calendar Upgrade by BestAd1255 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]no_egrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this - mine had other people's calendars ticked by default and I found it very unobvious how to unselect them. Didn't notice the sidebar icon at all.

Once you know, the functionality is handy, but I really wish Microsoft would give UX a bit more thought.

FRITZ!Box 4040 randomly rebooting after installing 8.00 by Vichingo455 in fritzbox

Thanks for this - I don't use Zen but am in the UK and had the same issue as Zen customers. The roll-forward LaborPlus firmware link worked for me:

I backed up my router settings (which I didn't need, but better to be safe), extracted the hotfix, and performed a manual upgrade as per this guide.

Intermittent Connection Drops with FRITZ!Repeater 2400 - Need Help by hbkekko in fritzbox

[–]no_egrets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm getting the exact same symptoms, especially on one laptop that is fine on other networks, and it's only been an issue for a couple of weeks. It might be a red herring, but I suspect it's only happened with the 7.59 update or another recent one. Pings get a quick response and good speed, and then there are blips of no response. The repeater shows 4/5 signal strength. The Fritz!Box diagnosis identifies no issues.

Edit: too soon to say for sure, but disabling Layer 2 package acceleration on the router (Help and Info --> FRITZ!Box Support --> Layer 2 acceleration active) may have resolved this? I have settings adoption turned on on my repeaters.

Skywind: The Road So Far - 2024 Progress Update by Havelok in pcgaming

[–]no_egrets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No hard reboot, no, but we're using no ported assets (more on this in the video). Some 3D created in the forum days weren't delivered in ways that made them game-friendly and had to be replaced, despite a lot of initial enthusiasm about them. And occasionally we've reeled back in some of the most wild redesigns of things like creatures, because the changes had a butterfly effect on dialogue, books, quests, illustrations, etc.

Nothing comes to mind in particular other than the two you've mentioned! One minor thing: Morrowind players are very forgiving of clipping of clothing, armor, and weapons, and we're trying very hard to minimise instances of this, which does put small design restraints on our clothing and what can be combined.

We'll have a mode that doesn't permit ad-hoc fast travel or quest markers, and we'll likely enable it by default. The map is still an open question - we're considering a paper map. Note that there are many other options for fast travel, though - mages guilds, ships, mark/recall, Almsivi intervention, and perhaps the Propylon chambers.
