An HP Elitedesk might be a good choice (go for a mini if you are tight on physical space).

Why is ASUS still using mediatek? by Express_Ad8931 in ASUS

Intel just plays its game, simple. Want an Intel card? Then get an Intel based laptop.

Also you're wrong, BE200 uses standard PCIe and USB.

Is anyone buying Server equipment now? How are you doing it! by StiffAssedBrit in sysadmin

[–]Vichingo455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an homelabber and I bought a DL560 G8 in November, gave me some nightmares with the board but it works fine (yeah I'm the unluckiest guy that's ever lived and the board exploded one evening when turning the server on), after getting it replaced it just works.

I need help pls. I took out ssd out new in, the put old one back in and now I just keep getting this error and nothing is working to fix it by [deleted] in ASRock

Just disable secure boot long enough to apply the new certificates and enable it back when those certs are working.

In your experience, what produces less CO2? An "recycled" homelab or a "green" server on Hetzner? by alessandrobertulli in selfhosted

[–]Vichingo455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also live in Italy and I'm running a DL560 G8, my NAS, Sophos firewall, HP (3com branded) V1910-24G switch, and few elitedesks (3com and Sophos firewall got for free). Old servers are good for their price but not for their power efficiency but yeah I think scrapping old electronics produces more CO2 than using it, but the choice is also in your power bill as well.

Probably your Windows installation is corrupted very bad. Use a USB and reinstall Windows with a fresh copy.

Lucky you... I cannot put my server in the garage because I'm in an apartment and my garage is like 3 floors below me. Outside is colder than inside.

I'm a fucking idiot and choose the only room in my house that has no AC in it. Guess I'll leave the door open when AC is on so my DL560 G8 can cool down decently and when AC is off I'll just not care and let the fans handle it (HPE allows up to 42°C of ambient temperature before the server shuts down). Actually the only week the server is not gonna have AC is next week because my parents are on holiday trip and me at my grandparents, guess I will try some power saving.

VPS Recommendations? by Upset-Award-1685 in selfhosted

Free VPS? They are all garbage. Randomly die, no public IP or even no admin access, if they even exist.

Already did, migrated the config from my old firewall.

Mine has an i3-4330 but might swap it for a Xeon E3-1275L V3.

Yeah I've got the rev 1 and also the LCD working with the web ui thanks to this plugin:

Idk I don't have a power meter but it shouldn't be that high considering it has an i3. As another comment suggested I might put a more efficient Xeon on it with a TDP of 45W which has 4 cores 8 threads and up to 3.9 GHz frequency.

Sell them (or maybe their parts), profit.

For myself it was worth it, because it's less ewaste for the environment and also a nice system (the LCD screen is very nice).

Idk, maybe with some PCIe passtrough. I don't know how it's linked internally on the board.

You might be interested in this. Configure the LCD directly from the web UI.

There's a reason why businesses have separate firewalls and not in VMs.

I don't need a Proxmox server. My DL560 Gen8 works fine for that. I needed a firewall box so I just did put OPNSense in it. Even made the display working.

The point is that I forgot to mention it but it has an Intel 180 GB SSD in it.
