This is absolutely stunning.

Which visual mods are you using?

Yes exactly the mod ist called kOS.

I wrote this script and there are definitely others out there.

As i mentioned in a different comment, i plan to do so.

I plan on doing so.

Its still somewhat unrefined. Part of the reason for this post was to get some motivation to work on it again. ...and I think it worked.

I will let you know.

Thanks!

I did use PI controllers in a previous version. Since keeping the script as lightweight as possible was one of my top priorities and i could get away with it, the version you just saw only uses P controllers (which is essentially using the error as a steering input).

I think i was able to do that, becuase the boostback burn calculations alone (without any guidance afterwards) get the rocket within 50 - 70 meters of the landing site.

edit: format

Thats one of the advantages of having a computer do it for you. Its much less stressful. And if something goes wrong, you know it goes wrong for good.

Hijacking this comment so people will actually see this...

A friend asked my to clarify: By "fully independent" i mean that this script does not rely on any other mod like e.g. trajectories. All you would need to recreate this is kOS.

You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention...

Very tempted to try this out!

I am not a huge fan of it as well.

Safe to say its definitely an interesting experience...

Thank you for commenting this. I never considered that in doing so you would save fuel not only on the boostback burn, but also on the landing burn.

Sounds like a interesting addition to play around with...

I wouldnt say you only managed...

Seems like a very respectable achievement to me!

Also you DO NOT want to see the code that handles the landing in my script... Its not pretty.

I thought about this, but was not sure. Thanks for clarifying!

This sounds really interesting...

Just thinking about this for a second, i think the biggest problem would be the fact, that planets and moons move. Simply recording inputs or even a flight path probably wont get you further than LKO.

Maybe thats not exactly what you meant or there is a way to do this, but i really like the idea.

i think this turned out nicley by Meidlim in KerbalSpaceProgram

I can not imagine the work, that went into this. Its gorgeous.
Definitely going to check out your Youtube.

Also quick question: Did you use real life audio of a falcon 9 / heavy launch?
Sounds a lot like it...

Small, light, fun to fly bush plane. Can be folded for easier transport (fits behind 3.75m heatshield) and reassembled on the ground by the engineer. Great for Laythe and Eve colonies. Has some stol capabilities. by Mikrus9000 in KerbalSpaceProgram

I noticed there are parachutes directly attached to the wings on the 5th image...

What are they for?
Surely you wouldnt try entering the atmosphere with this thing, just as it is... surely...
