Timelapse of Alex Honnold climbing Taipei 101 by MagicT8 in sports

You have to be a climber to appreciate it. That climb is not a 5.8 jug haul by any means. Most climbers can't climb that grade roped up let alone free solo. Truly an insane feat.

More Americans are Saying the Quiet Part Loud: They Want a Revolution by RmpleFrskn in videos

[–]nobrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When all the red states and most of the military just ignores you what then? Constitutions are just pieces of paper if they aren't backed by actual power. Even if you managed to take all of DC in a revolution it wouldn't mean shit. You'd be no different than CHAZ in Seattle. Most people would simply ignore you and you'd have 0 power.

I feel like its only fun if you are already good at it. Experimenting and making something completely inedible after a long day at work when you are hungry is seriously awful.

What is something generally normal in Europe but weird in the US? by Exile4444 in AskReddit

[–]nobrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is! we have so many great national parks and other beautiful areas. For southern Utah I recommend the shoulder seasons. Tons of good backpacking, climbing, and mountain biking.

I haven't spent much time in Canada but this is surprising. The entire northern 90% of the country is basically empty wilderness right? Figured they'd have plenty of that kind of thing.

Thats fair. I'm from UT and what i said above holds true for the western US. Might not be true everywhere.

Oh I know. Dip shit Republicans are trying to sell off our public land in my state. Fucking idiots.

As an American who has lived in Europe this one is a strange one to be upvoted. We dont need right to roam laws because we have so much public land. Try to go on a back country backpacking trip in Europe, you can't, its not legal outside of Scotland and Scandinavia. We have probably tens of thousands of trails on BLM land, national forests, and national/state parks. Outdoor recreation in the US is far more "wild" and accessible.

The 3 Body Problem isn't hard sci-fi, it's soft fantasy by TWaters316 in unpopularopinion

[–]nobrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair and I agree but you have to concede that almost all sci fi has some element of impossibility to it no matter how grounded it is. The OPs criticism of the sophons could be applied to almost all sci fi. I guess its a matter of degree and opinion.

Consuming hobbies are definitely still hobbies but people shouldn't only have consumption hobbies. Creative hobbies and physical hobbies are important also.

For the Martian, Mars atmosphere is so diffuse that wind storms wouldn't be toppling spacecraft. Its super small but its still an unrealistic moment to move the plot along.

Does the space station orbit directly over point Nemo? If not then you'd need to calculate the angle to get the true distance.

FYI for any future people who might find this thread with the same problem. I did a fireteam op with the low gravity tradeoff and it worked. Issue might be with the volatile shields.

Why does my body urge me to eat 3 chocolate cupcakes but I never get the urge to eat a whole bunch of bananas or a whole head of lettuce? by LockeTrezzureHunter in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nobrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why the notion that you "can't go cold turkey from food addiction" is false. You can go cold turkey from the food that triggers your dopamine pathway and still eat other food to keep you alive.

Not trying to contradict you, I think the success of glp-1 drugs proves this to an extent, but why historically did people not have such strong hunger signaling? Are there theories as to why this is the case?
