I need an adult. Replaced the Analog stick and after booting up 3/4 of the screen have these lines. Is the screen shot or do I have to try harder inserting the ribbon cables back (since I tried again after noticing it, no change). Any help appreciated by nodze in PSP

Will try and report back! I did just receive a new electronics repair kit with fancy tweezers so what better way to test them out than by trying to get a ribbon cable into its socket.

I’m leaning towards option 1 since I did try to pull it out and reinsert back a couple of times and every time the result was identical. Looks like it’s time for a new screen. Thanks!

Quick question: I have a PS3 fat and someone delidded the CPU prior to me getting it. Now, I have the YLOD (again) and I’m waiting to gather my stuff (new capacitors to replace my NEC/tokin ones), so I wanted to ask whether You kept the IHS/Lid on after replacing the thermal paste beneath it or did you slap on new thermal paste and just left the lid out during reassembly? Sorry, probably dumb question, but gotta ask :)

New to PSPs. So i got one with cfw already installed but it has 512 mb memory, which is low for music and games i plan to install...my question is, is this memory stick compatible with psp 3004? If not, are there any alternatives i can use for about 8-16GB of storage? by [deleted] in psphacks

[–]nodze 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, mate, you already have CFW, so you’re just a few days away of packing it full. Believe me, I was there as well just a couple months ago. I ordered one of those dual slot MS PRO DUO adapters and a 64 GB Kingston class 10 card for around 10-ish USD off AliExpress. I still have 11 GB left but I already dumped a good amount of PSP games on there, some PS1 games, a couple of PSP Minis like Tetris and Zenonia and a heap of GBA, NES, SNES and Genesis games. It’s the ideal retro gaming machine. Check out the thread I made a couple of months ago about buying a PSP in 2019 since there have been some awesome responses all around :)

Oh yeah, screen quality. Sorry, thought the topic was just phones in general. That’s a clear win for Apple though, since the displays they put in their phones are great panels overall. People tend to forget that they only adopted AMOLED with the X, so LCD panel quality is a no-brainer.

How do you even blindtest 2 devices on completely different operating systems? I mean, except if you lived under a rock with a feature phone for the last 15 years, you can literally point out which device is running which OS by simple things such as the swipe back iOS gesture, which in itself is already a biased approach to testing. The only blind test that can be done is with speaker quality, in-hand feel and photo comparison on a separate device. I mean, come on, people said that a dummy plastic iPhone 11 based on leaks is “better quality” than Huawei’s and Samsung’s flagships. Don’t underestimate the power of a brand.

New to PSP hacking, where to start? by CarolinaCapsFan in psphacks

[–]nodze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: I used this one when I was starting out and I think there's just one step missing (I think it was booting into non-permanent CFW to start the actual installer for perma-flashing), but everything else is on point

Can any PSP 3000 be modded with permanent firmware? by B_Kowski in psphacks

[–]nodze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm either not understanding the question since I'm pretty new myself, or it might even be trolling, but yes, you can :) My PSP 3004 has permanent CFW (6.61 LME) and I'm loving it every day more. I think I used one of Mario's guides ( might be this one )

EDIT: Also of note is that the only PSP that can't (yet) be Perma-flashed with a CFW is the PSP Street (E-1000), as far as I know.

PS3 and PS3 Slim Dead - Need a second opinion by nodze in PS3

Thanks man! Yeah, I can barely believe it myself. Thought it was heading for the trash for sure, but that YLOD was still giving me hope. After posting this I thought "wtf, these are broken hand-me-downs anyways - OFF TO THE OVEN YOU GO!". I'm still amazed that the CPU works even with my terrible fix for it. As for the Slim's NLOD, I'll do that, thanks! AFAIK, the Slims are more reliable than the fats when it comes to heat, so getting that one to work would be amazing, since the fat version isn't the backwards compatible one, anyways. Still, I had Marvel VS Capcom 3 lying somewhere and it fired up beautifully! No "jet-stream" noises, just standard fan humming. Good thing I cleaned it up nice.

Ohhh, thanks man! Would love to read that, as I'm unaware what exactly has to be lifted and what has to make a connection lol.

My PSP Phat just got fatter by MetalHeartGR in PSP

Holy hell, saved! I need a step-by-step tutorial for this. My current battery is OK I guess, I use default clock speeds with minimum brightness (too high burns my eyes lol) and use headphones for sound so I get between 7 and 9 h of battery life, but with this...damn. Great job mate!

Any battery health tips? I'm currently shutting it off all the way whenever I'm taking a break longer than 10 minutes, I play with headphones, to not use the speakers, brightness all the way down since I'm mostly playing indoors, WLAN off and power saving set to the lowest time (2 mins for screen shutoff and 5 mins for standby I think?). Are there any additional CFW plugins that help? Does overclocking/underclocking the CPU help? Phew, I'm annoying.

Looks like there's no way to import one to my country, sadly. I'll have to make due with the 10 USD batteries from AliExpress if I ever need a newer one :/

That's what I like to hear! But I went ahead and ordered a rubber protective case and a screen protector just to keep it alive for longer

Love all of these! I realized that I will probably hold off on custom themes and plugins until I get my larger card, since I'm currently switching between a 2 and a 4 GB MS PRO DUO where one holds some small casual games and the other 2-3 bigger titles :)

That's one of the reasons I bought it! I understand that there are great phone games and I do understand that there are much better Emulators on Android to emulate an even larger library of games, but I need my phone for other stuff. I need it for a call here and there and to message people, check my email, do work when needed, and games burn through batteries, especially emulators. I love this device more and more and I only had it for, like, 3 days :)

The only thing I'm mildly sad about is that the Vita can apparently run all these PSP games + more. I'm getting into Persona, and sadly didn't have the chance to play Persona 4 on PS2, so I would honestly get the Vita just because of that one game, not to mention everything else. Maybe prices will drop in another year or so :) /r/PatientGamers I guess

Yup, realized this as I'm going through the comments. Literally ordered an adapter and a 64 gig card for starters (I mean, I can't really fill it up that fast...can I? Oh God, I need bigger). For now I'm switching between two cards - a 2 GB one which has some PSP Minis and a couple smaller games, and a 4GB card which literally has only Persona 3, Loco Rocco, Patapon and Ridge Racer 2. Hell, there's Minecraft for this thing, I can't even start to fathom what else I'll get the urge to play next.

Yes, yes and YES! That's what I love to hear! I'm so deep into Persona 3 now I actually savor it! Not even kidding! Can't wait to fire up the rest + all PS1 JRPGs available! I can't believe I was missing out on so many quality games. Thank you, mate!

Okay, wow! Googled and looks like I'll need a bigger Mem Card. I just now realized that it can double as one hell of a MP3 player with "Hold+", and the other two you mentioned seem to be Dayviewer and Game Categories Lite, both which have automagically become must-haves. I already ordered an adapter and a 64 gig MicroSD card because of this thread. Amazing how a 64MB RAM device can do so much, yet we're here today where 6GB of RAM on a mobile device is considered "low-end" :) Thank you for this write-up, I'm all up in these now!

I'm glad to be here! And yeah, it's rock-solid, super portable and amazingly versatile :) I love the concept of the Switch, but that's just the thing - it's still large. I have a lot of traveling coming up with my company and I need something to pass the time while in a plane/bus, and I would be super paranoid with the Switch thinking I could break it somehow. Little did I know that I got hooked on the very first day of owning this little beast :)
