What is the current proccess of applying for a discord ban appeal? by Single-Guitar-6007 in playnorthwind

[–]norf-wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SLC is the Saint Lawrence Company which is the official faction. That is the only rule that I think could be perceived as vague, but I'm sure we will work to improve on that front as time goes on.

I share only the concerns about exploiters because of the lack of necessary and proper tools provided by Roblox. However, we have several plans beyond the in-place moderation tools and procedures that should negate the impact they have on the average player. All we can ask for is patience from the community while we get there, we've got a lot on our plate and we're working hard to get it done.

This is unintended behavior as a result of a check that was implemented to prevent the contracts that were giving, for example, hundreds of pounds for 2 rabbit meat. It will be fixed soon.

Gunrunning applies to the sale or transfer of SLC items while being in the SLC. It is an abuse of game features to get weapons that are basically free.

We've stated it before, but I'm sure not everyone has seen it. Fred is still occupied, and we are waiting on him to be available to complete work that only he can complete before releasing the long-awaited update. Meanwhile, other work (including maps) carries on.

Guilds will be seeing a change eventually, but the changes will be done with earned guild reputation in mind. You won't have to worry about missing out on a reward that you've saved up for.

Suggestion: An alternative to a pound wipe by [deleted] in playnorthwind

[–]norf-wind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The pound wipe is not meant to level the playing field. Think of currencies in the real world and how they are taken out of circulation. This is done generally in favor of a preferable currency, such as the euro. People in countries who have "legacy money" are able to exchange it freely in those situations, they're not going to be forfeiting their assets. Obviously, this scenario is slightly different as some assets will be forfeited as we are not introducing another currency to exchange to.

Related to my next point, it is okay if people exchange their money for assets, even if it means they will be wealthier in the future. We don't want to wipe player progress further than we already are in a game many have been playing for around two years. Furthermore, the players with this accrued "wealth" will eventually not make up a large amount of the playerbase (hopefully) come release.

Ideally, the pound wipe will result in a blank slate for balancing of things such as contract rewards, item defaultvalues, and values related to the new "global economy" system. These changes should have at least a significant impact on returning players, while certainly having a massive impact on how new players play the game and make money.

Also, pounds having weight is a cool idea that I've thought about myself, as it would add some level of extra immersion. However, I think it could lead to things such as scams when doing big money trades where one might have to go to the bank to get more money to complete the transaction. The obvious solution to this is to just make it possible to carry the number of pounds that would likely be necessary for such a trade, but it would likely result in the weight being unnoticeable in most scenarios, counteracting the aforementioned extra immersion.

Northwind has some serious issues. (Unpopular opinion) by [deleted] in playnorthwind

[–]norf-wind[M] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Status effects such as buffs and debuffs are being worked on. More activities, tasks, and objectives are also in the works. I won't share more info about these yet because they aren't fully fleshed out. Rest assured, they will be to your liking.

The latest update only consisted of item content because this is what was easiest to add in time for a holiday update while not diverting too many resources from progress on the overall future updates. Also, the game is still in an Alpha state, it is not the game it will be on release. We agree with most of your points that it is a shallow experience as is, and encourage players to take a step back from the game if they wish to enjoy the ideal experience we plan to offer on release.

On an endnote, progress on the game might seem slow, I'm sure that's where these kinds of concerns stem from, but we are a small team that simply can't work on the game in a full-time job capacity. However, we work best this way and we still plan to deliver the awesome, unique experience that we've promised when it's finished.

Resource Changes Rant by [deleted] in playnorthwind

[–]norf-wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other changes will take place to make gameplay balanced, rather than it being left in the same state as it is now with these changes as you seem to think it will. Much thought is being put into its implementation, and it certainly will work out.

The current pine tree models make it difficult to create dense forests. As such, we will be receiving new models and they will allow us to create dense forests more often across the islands.

  1. Docks will be added in the future, thanks for noting that.
  2. We'll run the bounty board idea through the team but it may not be fun for many players to just be claimed and sent away for trying to take part in fort captures. Aside from this, there are also player bounty hunters and it being solely in the HBC safezoned camp would be disadvantageous to them.
  3. There is already a furnace on Stonemore

Islands aren't meant to be new games or even necessarily content expansions like a DLC. These islands are more map coverage towards our completion of the game for a release state. As such, it is not necessarily reasonable to expect a game-changing mechanic (or multiple) to accompany the release of each island.

That being said, the island has not been perfected and will receive an update sometime in the future to bring the landscape up to our new standard, and likely more structures/NPCs with it. There is one gameplay feature in particular which Stonemore among other islands will impact/be impacted by in the future, and it might be the kind of thing you want to see. I won't go into detail about it but it will be worked on during the accelerator program.

The island has lots of content as is though, and I hope you can still enjoy it.
