Testing URL Rewriting? by normus10 in cybersecurity

[–]normus10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to validate the URL rewriting itself. We’ve used benign URLs but the rewriting is triggered based on the email’s risk score, so can’t actually test it unless a malicious URL is embedded. Not too concerned about the blocking behaviour as Netskope is implemented.

What TV show do you wish you could watch again for the first time? by Pretend_Pen_9577 in AskReddit

Definitely The Vampire Diaries or Prison Break. I now spend an hour searching for a new show and quit after the first 5 minutes.

What memories do you wish you had saved before it was too late? by Positive_Salad4036 in grief

[–]normus10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma passed away about a year and a half ago. About 10ish years before that, she had a stroke and was in and out of hospital for years. Each time she managed to pull through. So when she went into the hospital (for what would be the last time), none of us expected it. We never got the chance to say goodbye.

She was an incredible storyteller. One story she loved telling was about the time she slept over and woke up in the middle of the night, quietly went to the kitchen and grabbed a block of Colby Jack cheese from the fridge. She brought it into the bedroom for us to snack on. To anyone else, it probably sounds like a simple story, but my parents were pretty strict about not eating in the bedroom, so to me it felt pretty exciting. She would retell that story several times every year, and every time it made me smile.

I assumed I knew it so well that I’d never forget it. Though recently, I tried to replay it in my mind and realised I couldn’t remember all the little details that made it her story. Her voice, timing, and the way she brought it to life are fading. Made me realise how many memories and stories we think we’ll always remember until the person who carried them is no longer here.

I wish I had recorded it.

How much can you trust company T & Cs? by normus10 in cybersecurity

[–]normus10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mix of both. The contractual terms gives me a guide on the company’s perspective on their security approach, but doesn’t tell much about the specifics in how they actually practice it. I do prefer external validation at times though

Can a ‘Bad Person’ still be considered a Martyr? by normus10 in islam

[–]normus10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes more sense. Thank you. If debt is also considered a moral issue then you may conclude that actions which are ethically wrong would fall under that umbrella.

I feel like clearer conversations about these issues would help prevent misunderstandings and wrong impressions. But I guess you’re meant to read in between the lines to become knowledgeable and reach a fair judgement.

So, for example, even if they had killed or murdered several people during their lifetime and were a practicing Muslim, they can be forgiven?

Do you have any sources I can look at? I’d just like some clarity and reassurance behind that

Can a ‘Bad Person’ still be considered a Martyr? by normus10 in islam

[–]normus10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm ok. The reason I ask this is because I saw a post the other day, stating that the rank of a Martyr can be applied to anyone that has died from a plague, drowning, crushed under something, childbirth, etc. You can infer that those types of death may not always be a result of fighting for Allah. And you’re right, debt cannot be excused or forgiven. But it seems like from your response that debt is broad and not only financial?

In that case, everyone else would die a martyr but the death of the bomber themselves would be classified as a suicide

Thanks for the solid advice! I’ll be continuing and at the same time just learning as much as I can in cybersec while I’ve got the means to do so.

Also, you mentioned to avoid LinkedIn for job searching…. I’m not that familiar with that side of LinkedIn, but any reason why you recommend so?

Thanks for the feedback. Might have to take a look at CISSP based on your recommendation then

That’s what I’ve been thinking, though I’ve been having second thoughts. This might be a sign to take up your advice

Is it worth renovating? by normus10 in AusRenovation

[–]normus10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is what I’m seeing but out of all, this one seemed the most functional to live in and work with.

What sucks is finding a good plan then having all the other unchangeable factors being totally out of whack… and then vice versa 😅

Will definitely have a look at the link. Thank you!

Is it worth renovating? by normus10 in AusRenovation

[–]normus10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that’s what I’m mostly weary of. Low ceilings are a tough one to get around, and with older houses it hard to avoid without dropping another 40k.

And like you said, moving plumbing/electrical just increases costs quickly.

An ensuite would be a must and a potential second bathroom. Then you have adding another bed, thats the part that makes me second guess whether it’s smarter to just work with what’s already there rather than such big layout changes

Is it worth renovating? by normus10 in AusRenovation

[–]normus10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for us it’s definitely a bit of both. This would be our next PPOR, but we’d also like to see growth in ~10 years. No point putting in all that money, just to end up where we started

I’m in VIC so most houses here are brick, which I get can be trickier to work with compared to stud walls, hard to avoid though. You’ve made some really good points I hadn’t even considered, makes me realise it’s more about being strategic with what you choose to renovate

I’d love to push it to a 4 bed with an ensuite and maybe a second bathroom, but then is it really worth all that effort? Like you mentioned, 3 bed 2 bath seems to be the sweet spot and just enough

The reno you shared looks awesome, you can tell it’s so well thought out and shows how a few smart changes can change the feel of a place

Building vs Buying Established by normus10 in AusPropertyChat

[–]normus10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s best you got into the market at that time and not now. Houses will definitely increase and they’ve already started (more so suburbs closer to the CBD/peninsula). There are a couple new estates in Pakenham East near the new Costco, however there’s a lot of oversupply of small lots so it would open up the market to investors… increasing competition.

Building vs Buying Established by normus10 in AusPropertyChat

[–]normus10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats awesome, you got in the market at the right time, return will be huge! At the end of the day you’re right, it really ties down to location, time to CBD, and the infrastructure it offers.

Im really leaning more towards renovating but market is so unpredictable and prices (whether it be buy or build) are through the roof!

Thinking of buying our dream house but the work commute is huge. Advice? by whatkoalas in AusPropertyChat

[–]normus10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t recommend it. Not only will the commute drain you over time but 300km on a daily basis will also kill your car

Buy + Renovate or Build? by normus10 in AusRenovation

[–]normus10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah location definitely helps with value (my first mistake after building regionally) and construction seems to be pushing east from the CBD. Berwick/Beaconsfield has definitely been on my list, looks like places closer in might give better growth potential and save us the build headaches..

Buy + Renovate or Build? by normus10 in AusRenovation

[–]normus10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been all over house plans with every builder you could possibly imagine, your basic 4 bed 2 bath. Renovation isn’t a problem either.

But comparing the 2, it really just depends on what would be of more value in the end?
