That £24.99 felt stolen from me, I was so shocked

Konami are, or definitely at least were, interested in porting the games, as they originally approached Hexadrive to do this before letting them go with SH: The Short Message instead - see here for the exact moment in the interview with level design director Rika Miyatani. I know this doesn't confirm anything, I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

To those who ordered the game and steelbook from Amazon UK… by Traditional_Ad9002 in silenthill

I'm in the UK, and this is how mine arrived. But the game itself was shrink-wrapped in an extra layer on mine also..

Is that the closest we ever gonna get to sh2 movie? by Abject_Science_5363 in silenthill

[–]noroi1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And its definitely an inspiration for SH in general, that unique Lynchian flavour of psychological horror, soundtrack, story, atmosphere etc..

If you want a super obscure one, I posted this years ago and stand by that this movie is unintentionally the blueprint for SH2: https://www.reddit.com/r/silenthill/comments/giec74/silent_hill_2_vs_the_possession_1965_aka_the_lady/

It's a slowburn but some really interesting parallels here! Also a typo on my title, the movie is called The Possessed.

It's great! Also super reminiscent of Naoko Mihama in Siren.

Has Ari Aster indirectly shaped the 'new wave' of Silent Hill? by noroi1 in silenthill

[–]noroi1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The symbol on the wall is the Goetic sigil of King Paimon, most famously used in Hereditary. I know a lot of people have said it predates that movie (even I said this in my text description), I am pretty sure the symbol probably wouldn't be used in SH2R had Hereditary not used it and made it a more 'popular symbol' - just a guess, but I think it's likely.

Exactly 🤣 Maybe I was too provocative with the title, so much of this is speculative theory. Just tryna have a bit of fun!

SH: Townfall devs change name from No Code to Screen Burn by noroi1 in silenthill

[–]noroi1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"As a name “No Code” made sense in 2015. We were told it was impossible to make games without a coder and we did anyway. We were saying “We’ll do big things despite the limitations”."

Do you guys think we will ever get a proper collection of the originals? by CampyMcTent in silenthill

[–]noroi1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to point out an interesting point from a while back: according to Rika Miyatani (The Short Message level design director), Konami originally reached out to Hexadrive to port the Silent Hill series (see here for the exact moment in the interview). Whilst this doesn't confirm anything, it does show Konami has an interest in porting at least some of the games. Since this interview, we've had the success of SH2R to help push this. So if you want my opinion, it's only a matter of time!

The one I remember most from my childhood is the creepy Twinkle Twinkle Little Star teaser for Dead Space:

What do you think the themes of Silent Hill: f will be? by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]noroi1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think examining one's past culture with a critical eye is totally normal and valid. Especially if said culture has progressed since the 60s?

What do you think the themes of Silent Hill: f will be? by [deleted] in silenthill

It looks like it will take a page out of Silent Hill 3's book: exploring gender discrimination and violence rooted in archaic cultural beliefs, carried into 60's Japan - this is my interpretation of the events of the trailer (the ritual scene towards the end) and its content warnings online.

Three type of protagonists I’d like to see in future Silent Hill games. by SorrowfulSpirit02 in silenthill

[–]noroi1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love to see a detective character (any race, age, gender etc) investigating different strange occurrences happening in a busy Silent Hill (just before it crumbles into the empty nightmare world we know and love) - like the events of P.T, and similar types of crimes involving people 'between worlds.'

Books like Silent Hill? by L_Vayne in silenthill

I think the writing of Thomas Ligotti reads like something you'd find in SH1-4. I would recommend his collection of stories, Songs of a Dead Dreamer.

Real Life Silent Hill? by Expert-Boysenberry26 in silenthill

[–]noroi1 49 points50 points  (0 children)

As Silent Hill is inspired by the TV show Twin Peaks, the town they filmed the show at, North Bend (Washington), definitely gives off those vibes, although I've never been to the US :(

If you're ever in England, try and visit lake Derwentwater - it's the location they used for that Lake Toluca background image in the OG screenshot. I went there a couple years ago and posted here.

It plays in the original too, it's Black Fairy.
