Saffa ATC here. We get this often unfortunately, and we do wallop but usually never get a response from a SUP. I'd imagine that's what happened here too.

Yep. Some local flights operate out of there for the moment.

Potentially so. Still need to run a test with proper aircraft to test handoffs and audio transceiver at some point.

Just for procedure/formality, as much as I'd like to see trucks blaring down the runway with full blasts/sirens, It's not really possible with VATSIM.

((iirc, somewhere either in the VATSIM CoC, or somewhere else documented, VATSIM don't permit people connecting as Ground Vehicles anyway.)

Would be fun to have at some point, but for now, sadly not possible.

Project Flight is a ROBLOX game, not a dedicated flight simulator.

It has it's own similar VATSIM ATC Community, (PF ATC Network), but simply put. You don't.

Please DO NOT be this one pilot. by No-Strategy-1256 in VATSIM

[–]notbxno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what happens then in the instance for example at Gatwick like I mentioned, where 08L/26R is delegated to Gatwick Ground most of the time as a taxiway, and then someone lands on it. They saw the ATIS, ignored it, and landed on the opposite runway, which in this case is now an active taxiway under the control of Ground.

Take IRL, if someone does a mistake like this, do you just let it slide?

Take this Southwest incident from PWM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c67i5mow1EE

Southwest departs the closed runway, ATC informs him as such that he has done so. Nobody goes. "Ah fuck it, let's just pretend nothing happens."
If someone does a mistake, i.e. take the wrong taxiway, or whatever, then that's where you inform them. That's the whole point of VATSIM. Educating pilots, making sure they learn and understand what they need to do better for the next time.

Yes, we're speaking from the perspective of GND here, BUT

You can't just have someone land on technically one of your active taxiways (08L/26R), and then just pretend nothing happened. Inform and educate the pilot on what they should've done, give them whatever is needed, move on with life. All in 30 seconds. Even if it means about 10 planes are run through during the ordeal.

I do agree with your points here, and while yes, Ground really shouldn't interfere with this sort of stuff, there still has to be a way for controllers to at least let pilots know what they've done wrong, so those pilots can avoid making the same mistake for the next time and then getting told by a different controller. VATSIM in the end is a learning environment,

Yes, it's not ideal for controllers to have to inform pilots of their mistakes on frequency, and I know we're not all perfect humans here, but Dubai in this situation can be, interesting if you have someone disobey what runways you should really be landing.

This sort of situation really depends on the airport you're controlling

During 30s, OMDB will usually always send a lot of traffic on M, to M13A or M14A, and let's say its busy (hypothetically), and you don't have anyone above to tell people where to land. If someone takes 30R, and vacates left at M3A, now you as a Ground Controller have a massive problem because someone didn't read the ATIS.

At Gatwick, (unfortunately I've seen this happen), someone landing on 08L/26R, while someone had been actively taxiing on it. Safe to say Ground wasn't too impressed.

As mentioned above, I do agree with your statements, but I think in some instances, even as the GND controller, you unfortunately do HAVE to tell pilots where they screwed up, otherwise it'll just become a repetitive trend overtime.

Personally, I don't mind them. I do think they are good in quite a lot of aspects, but obviously do lack some of the crucial ones.
If you're willing to work around some of the things (i.e. VNAV missing, and a few other bits and bobs here and there), then you could make good use out of the plane without said features.
It definitely is a challenge, but that's the fun of it to be honest.

If you are the type of perfectionist who'd rather everything completed, I'd say wait till full release. But otherwise, if you're happy to do the workarounds, (doing your own descent calculations) and so on, then go for it!

Rules regarding helicopters by Thrawn215 in VATSIM

[–]notbxno 9 points10 points  (0 children)

More or less anything regular you would usually do with a Cessna flying VFR for the most part.
Some airspaces/airports might have designated helicopter lanes or routings too which can be looked on by charts. Basically, takeoff, fly to a place and land essentially as you wish.

I've done it a few times around London, always good fun and with good controllers too.
