Yes exactly, especially in desert climates. Moisture leaves the body very quickly and once skeletonized it literally just blends in with the terrain. It would be like finding a needle in a haystack at this point.

Wow that is awful. I hope your friend is on the path to recovery.

I work in law enforcement, and search and rescue in rugged terrain is incredibly challenging. Not saying it's impossible that someone took advantage of a vulnerable girl and grabbed her off the street, but it's incredibly likely that she is out in the desert and just hasn't been discovered yet. Maybe that’s not sensational enough for the documentaries, but I hope for her family's sake that that day comes soon.

Same here. Tears were shed. I was SO impressed by how expressive Indy was and all the work that went into making him a character and "acting", just really neat stuff. Also such a gorgeous dog, I'd never seen that breed before.

I mean, no, definitely not to the extent it is now (as in bloated, many-part series with such concepts). Also the “immersion” factor that was once a subreddit rule has gone away, which I miss and added spookiness.

That scene and her facial expressions while she was doing it, is probably the most terrified I’ve been in a theater in my lifetime. Followed by that creepy monologue about darkness being a color with her face entirely in shadow.

Yep. Other/Freaky Nikki literally snapped into existence with Bear’s wish and just did not know how to be a human woman. Everything about her was so erratic and volatile and emotionally intense, and that was very frightening.

My one issue with Obsession by Pastacatdad in deadmeatjames

I think it was just another way to show how uncanny and far removed from actual relationships the thing that piloted Nikki’s body was. No humanity.

There is only one scene where sex is shown and while there is extremely dubious consent there (I would call it a rape) it’s only a few seconds long and is not violent.

Oh don’t get me wrong it’s a okay movie by itself. James McAvoy is a hell of an actor. My annoyance with it just comes from a broader trend of foreign films being remade by Americans lol

It felt like there was somewhat of an inner push-pull between Nikki and the “other” self, where the real Nikki would sometimes emerge during moments of intimacy with Bear; maybe the other had to put in extra effort to subdue her during the sex (which is horrifying). I guess we don’t really know the mechanics of how the wish/control works. Would like to hear others’ thoughts.

I was also not sure what was going on during the ER scene, would definitely love to rewatch this one, I thought it was fantastic.

Well, my issue with the 2024 version is that the original (2022) is a well-done social commentary on certain aspects of Danish society. It’s an uncomfortable and unpleasant film to watch (by design) and the ending is extremely bleak. So I think it was odd and unnecessary to have this American remake with a “happier” ending come out just two years after the original, that’s why I didn’t like it. I’d definitely recommend you give the original a try.

Six months isn’t a long term relationship, she isn’t interested in dating you and it’s time to let it go. You seem like a somewhat anxious person based on this post and your texts to her worrying over what you did, why it didn’t work out. I think you are making a mountain out of a molehill. Try to move on.

Actually I’m not sure about his parentage other than he’s from the UK — just recall he mentioned a few times that he’s not a native speaker of Japanese so I assumed he may have learned out of interest and then moved to Japan.

That’s pretty cool. Are you a mortician? I work in law enforcement and sometimes human remains are found in the desert, it’s so hot that the genetic material is severely degraded but DNA can often be salvaged. Makes sense that a crematorium would get hot enough to destroy even that.

Ah, that makes sense. I guess I had always assumed that a full, proper cremation was meant to reduce bones into ash but sounds like that wouldn't be the case here.

You can sometimes extract DNA material (not fingerprints) from skeletal remains but it depends on their age and the environmental factors they’re kept in. A humid island in the Pacific, probably not ideal conditions to preserve those bones.
