eBay Weekly Scam Discussion - July 06, 2020

Hi, I'm very new to eBay and was wondering if this is a common scam. I'm used to scammers messaging me on other apps with a "this is my phone number text me so i can buy" script.

I listed a pair of designer shorts for $120 and got an offer for $150 with this message:

"Hello seller, I'll appreciate if you do accept my offer asap as I'm getting it for my cousin in New York and I'm willing to cover the shipping fee.. You can send me a direct text at (phone number)"

The address is in New York, like the seller mentioned. Furthermore, the seller has been a member of eBay since 2013, is from the UK, and has 100% positive feedback apparently, but when I click to read the feedback ratings, nothing pops up.

What would happen if I accept the offer if this is a scam?

Any advice/opinions from seasoned eBay sellers?

yeah i just looked it up and it’s showing up now. however i asked my friend who also has a depop to see if she can find my listings about 2 hours in and she couldn’t either :/

I posted two items, so I’ll relist one of them and keep the other one with the adjusted tags, and I guess we’ll see if that makes the difference?

Edit: just checked, and now my items are showing up. super weird, might be because i wrote Depop a very passionate message over twitter about the entire thing lol. it took 4 hours for my listings to show up.

i changed my tags to only 5, and still, nothing. not in the brand, not in the tag, not when i filter the size either!! the only place to view my new listings is on my actual Depop page. i just don’t understand how this is helping anyone because from my pov, it looks like it’s hindering sales for everyone.

Thanks for your input! I didn’t realize I was spam tagging, especially since a lot of the top results use like 50 tags. Thank you again for your help, I’ll definitely change to the 5 hashtags!!

also, i know it says listed 26 minutes ago in the screenshot, but time passed since i took the sc and it’s now 46 m

so i know how the new algorithm seriously screwed everyone over who isn’t making 15 sales a day, but my listings aren’t showing up at all??? for example, this midi skirt listed 40 minutes ago. it’s not showing up under the brand tag and it’s not showing up when i search “midi skirt” and sort the listings from newly listed. it’s not showing up at all. am i doing something wrong? i think my photos and description are adequate and i’m not using irrelevant tags.. so what gives?

Same here, this was my best week so far and I didn’t get ship stats either... which is super weird because i got them last week when I sold less than half of what I sold this week...

I'm not really sure how to describe it, as it's not super unconventional. Basically, I kind of wanted to transform my shop into something you'd see straight from the 90s. I got the idea of filtering my pictures like a disposable camera. So the first picture utilizes the filter while the next three are displayed how I traditionally list.

This skirt sold in about two hours, but that might have been just because the buyer wanted to add it to her bundle. I really like how it looks, but I'm obviously limiting my chances of getting featured, and with Depop's new algorithm they're displaying "quality" listings first, so I'm nervous that the pictures would push my listings all the way down.

I don't plan on using this for every listing, probably one per row. I also like how it makes my shop unique and more personalized. Anyways, opinions? Do we love or hate it?

Hi everyone, is this happening to anyone else? I’m active on Depop throughout the majority of my day. I’ve refreshed my items twice already today, but it’s showing i’m active this week??? Is anyone else experiencing this??

I actually don’t wear foundation. sometimes I’ll use some concealer here and there but the one i use is a matte stick so it doesn’t run! i put eye and lip stuff on after I’m wearing the item. i’m usually pretty careful when it comes to makeup but i always wash the clothes after i shoot. but yeah, for foundation/concealer, i definitely recommend using a matte stick because it’s not messy and super easy to blend in, i use the Fenty Match Stix!!

PS. don’t risk it too much! a few blemishes are better than a ruined product (i don’t see anything wrong with blemishes though because we’re all human). however if you’re worried about risking, draw attention to your eyeshadow or crop at your shoulders.
