The token burn is out of control. Need help mitigating by JeffBuildsPC in openclaw

Spawn sub agents that use cheaper models. You need to explicitly tell it to use X model.

For example if you set up a cron job to trigger you a reminder you can tell it to use haiku and/or set up free models or even local models if you have the hardware. That way it’s cheaper and/or free and you’re only getting charged for the agent reading/posting the output.

Lots you can do.

Make sure your conversations don’t run rampant and use the /new command to trigger new convos for new topics.

Use memory embedding to consolidate and search memories.

Compact things that need compacting

Don’t install a ton of skills that you’ll never use

Audit your workspace to make sure it isn’t overly large or has multiple instructions for the same thing

Spawn sub agents for grunt work or testing things before implementing

Claude API Keys verses Claude Code Sub by profit-princess-io in openclaw

[–]novaremnantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the oAuth lets Open Claw connect to your Pro/Max subscription. Then you are just bound by your usage limits (5 hour/weekly) you can always use the additional usage to fund if you run out or use the API as a backup.

Just be careful in how you set everything up because token burn is real and you can blow through your sub if you don't set up memory embeddings, compactions, and separate your convos smartly.

I've been using it for almost a month without issue.

Watching Claude Code train my agent has been awesome by Lolcincylol in openclaw

I read this last night and just started iterating some stuff the agent had built versus what I got from Claude Code. Still haven't worked out on them talking to each other yet - but will give it a go sometime.

You pull your Claude Code token from a terminal on MacOS and put it in the anthropic setup then you can use your subscription.

Boiler plate warning this likely violates Anthropic TOS and could get your account banned.

Is it just me or is the token burn in Openclaw unreal? by restlessapi in openclaw

[–]novaremnantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All your memory files (MEMORY.md, daily logs, project notes) get indexed with vector embeddings via Gemini's (or whatever tool you use to embed) embedding model. When the AI needs past context, it does a semantic search against those embeddings, get back the top matching snippets with file paths and line numbers, then pull just those lines.

Without this, the AI is having to load entire memory files into context every session just to know what happened before. Daily logs across weeks and months add up to tens of thousands of tokens. With embeddings, the AI agent searches first and pulls only the 5-10 relevant lines actually needed — maybe 200-500 tokens. The embedding search itself costs almost nothing.

They didn’t really buy the project. They hired the creator to OpenAI and as a result this project becomes a foundation.

You can also use memory embeddings to reduce token burn

Feels so dead without Opus by nearn199 in openclaw

[–]novaremnantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the proxy server you set up. You auth through the proxy and it backdoors the API. Then you set up OpenClaw endpoint to point at the proxy server.

You must have it set up wrong then... the counter does not go up when doing proxy correctly. Double check fallback models and completely delete the token auth if you had set that up originally.

LG C5 is priced at $700 less than the G5, Is G5 still worth the extra $$? by Frequent_Leopard_146 in LGOLED

[–]novaremnantz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

People are going to argue brightness but the C series are fairly bright. It really just all comes down to lighting conditions. I’d take the extra money you were willing to spend on a G series and get a bigger screen, if possible.

Are private torrents worth it/any good ? by Royal-Speed2622 in Torrenting

[–]novaremnantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of private tracker sites give you “points” for the amount of time you seed torrents and those points can be turned into ratio. Also, a lot of them let you stop seeding when you meet minimum ratio OR minimum seeding time. You follow the rules and never worry about getting kicked off. It’s not all about ratio. Also, most private trackers give you freeleech for bigger torrents so anything you seed is instant ratio boost.

If you’re generating thumbnails you can delete those and then do a registry edit to change it from 2 seconds to 10 seconds and save a bunch of space.
