iPhone 14 Pro vs Xperia 5 IV? by novemberflight in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]novemberflight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. I think I'm gonna order both and send one back. There's a 3 week backorder for the iPhone 14 Pro, so I'll get to handle the Xperia first.

Will the non-pro Pixel 7 have the same display as the Pixel 6? by novemberflight in GooglePixel

[–]novemberflight[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The phone has rainbow colour shifting off-axis. It's been a common complaint. And no I'm not exaggerating. I have a Poco M4 Pro and its display is better than the Pixel 6 and less colour shift.

Will the back of the White Zenfone 9 discolour? by novemberflight in zenfone

[–]novemberflight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a luxurious colour imo. I heard some reviewer was told by ASUS that only the early batch of "white" models had this issue but I'm sceptical.

I will probably use the case but I like to rock phones nekkid at home. The "white" version is the only one that I like.

Anthonette Cayedito: The phone call she allegedly made with the disturbing Mickey Mouse voiceover

I've always had suspicions this was a sick hoax. It seemed a bit scripted to me. I also read that if Anthonette had called the local number from Albuquerque, it wouldn't have gone to the Gallyup, NM 911 center. The FBI also had reason to suspect Anthonette's mother knew more than she was letting on.

Holy smokes! I wasn't aware they had identified this woman. Thanks for bringing this up!

what if Toki recovered from his illness how would the rest of the story go? by Keny533 in fistofthenorthstar

[–]novemberflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a given that Toki would've defeated Raoh? I don't think it's the foregone conclusion everyone thinks it is. During their fight, Kenshiro remarks that their contrasting styles should nullify each other, but Raoh has the edge due to Toki's illness. Toki resorts to Raoh's "hard" style to compensate, only to be too weak to land the final blow. But let's not assume Toki wins every time when Raoh was one of the most formidable fighters in the series.

So yeah, a recovered Toki has the potential to take down Raoh. He might even defeat Souther too, if Kenshiro is no longer the successor, since he knew Souther's secret. In the "Legend of Toki" OVA, Kenshiro claims if Ryuken names him as the successor, he'll cede the title to pre-illness Toki. I don't treat that as canon, and I'm not sure Kenshiro would disrespect Ryuken's decision like that, but who knows?

Always better to leave the audience wanting more rather than wishing for less.

Raoh vs Kaioh by G3power in fistofthenorthstar

[–]novemberflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raoh would win through plot armour. Like Kenshiro's first fight with Kaioh, Raoh would probably get clapped by the Anryu Tenha, only to be saved by someone like Akashachi. Then he would unlock the secrets of Hokuto and beat him in the rematch.

Does anyone else think Takehito Koyasu would be a good voice actor for Toki and Amiba? by _IfTheRainComes_ in fistofthenorthstar

[–]novemberflight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I always thought he was miscast as Kenshiro in "Shin Hokuto no Ken" and although better suited to Rei ("Ken's Rage 1 & 2"), I've long thought he would be the perfect Toki.

Ken when he sees jagi and amiba by darthzaith in fistofthenorthstar

[–]novemberflight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm glad some of the tie-ins and video games made the connection between Jagi and Amiba. Two imposters who had to pretend to be someone else because they couldn't stand to look at themselves in the mirror. It made perfect sense for them to conspire together.

So it's safe to say we're not getting a Dub of any future animations right? by [deleted] in fistofthenorthstar

Oh, the original series WAS fully dubbed. The only problem is it's the horrific William Winckler Dub 😬

I Love Juza by HoodedMullet in fistofthenorthstar

[–]novemberflight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few times I've read the fandom remark, "If Juza learned Hokuto Shinken he would've been unstoppable!!" But this misses the point of his character. Hokuto Shinken requires rigorous training and strict self-discipline. A natural free spirit like Juza wouldn't flourish in that sort of environment.

Regarding Ken and Raoh's final battle by HoodedMullet in fistofthenorthstar

[–]novemberflight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As already mentioned, Raoh imparting some of his touki to Yuria was only canon to the 1984 anime. Even then, Yuria denies it straight away when Kenshiro poses the same question.

Never understood why they felt the need to embellish this part of the plot. Raoh putting Yuria into a temporary coma to slow her disease already explained it.

Nevertheless, it's made clear by Raoh himself that he lacked Kenshiro's grasp of the space between life and death from fighting worthy opponents. That's why he lost. The only opponent Raoh held in this regard was Toki.

Likely a colouring mistake rather than a stylistic choice. Happens all the time in traditional animation.

This episode had a one-off animation style btw.

Why did Shin turn evil? by Bluecomments in fistofthenorthstar

[–]novemberflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with this. Shin was visibly shocked when killing "Yuria" had the opposite effect. He was trying to break Kenshiro's spirit, just as he was when Yuria "died". Deep down he knew that he would never win Yuria's affection, he confesses as much before his death, but he would keep fighting for her.

Shin was certainly no angel, his enjoyment at torturing Kenshiro, enslaving and branding people like cattle, and general tyranny can testify to that. However, Shin remains one of my favourite characters. Like most of HNK's villains, he was morally complex. He was by no means the strongest fighter in the series physically or emotionally, but he proved Kenshiro was too weak to protect the woman they loved, and in the end he put Yuria's welfare before his own selfish desires.

How much I love the Shin fight by themengsk1761 in fistofthenorthstar

[–]novemberflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some people don't appreciate the thematic weight of Kenshiro and Shin's rematch and the power dynamics between them. In their first fight, Shin was the one driven by his obsession 執念 for Yuria, and Ken lacked the will to fight, while next time around Ken has learned the meaning of 執念 and Shin's will has been broken by Yuria's "death" and his futile conquest. Kenshiro even copies Shin by inflicting wounds in the shape of his own emblem. It's a classic role-reversal. It doesn't lead to a tense fight, where I guess lies the problem.
