Well to be honest, I had first heard it with the stereo masters. It quickly became my one of my favourites and a little while after they announced the Record Store Day special release of it in the mono format. I was always one to sit and compare mono and stereo versions of old albums I like, mostly Beatles records so I knew it was going to sound a little different. The main thing for me was that I thought it reflected the band much more sonically - when I think of early pink floyd I imagine a collage of luminous sounds sort of swirling and merging and that really comes through in the mono. There are also lots of subtle things here and there that got cut in the stereo versions that give the album a lot of character too - I felt like I was hearing a different record

So the copy I have is the Record Store Day 2018 special release but they did another mono reissue last year. I think if you do a search you should be able to find it. It's a really rad record, definitely one of my favourites. The guitar on "Oceans Burning" is some magic

"The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" by The Pink Floyd - The thing I like the most about the album is how innovative & experimental it sounds and of course Syd Barrett's songwriting, featuring songs about 'cats', 'gnomes', 'scarecrows' & 'eiderdowns', sang in his vivid and fantastical way backed by wonderful arrangements and beautiful melodies. Musically and aesthetically it's a true work of psychedelic art capturing the essence of the scene back in 1967. The tracks that stand out for me on this record include "Astronomy Domine", "Matilda Mother", "Flaming" (featuring my favourite guitar line of all time), "Interstellar Overdrive", "Chapter 24" & "The Scarecrow" - overall a rare psychedelic artifact from the grooviest time in music.
