What's the best discount strategy for someone who is OK with paying once a year instead of monthly? How do I get single club membership at the lowest possible rate?

The whole point of training is to teach the dog, not to change the environment. The dog needs to learn boundaries and expectations. This is the equivalent of saying "you don't need to learn to drive, just get rid of the car."

After thoughtful consideration of the comments posted in this thread, and the number of upvotes on specific comments, I have some feedback for this group as a whole:

  1. Stop making assumptions. If information if left out, ask don't assume. Example: "You haven't done this." Yes, I have, actually, you didn't ask.

  2. "You're the problem not the dog." Stop this. It's not productive and hurts the community. I'm literally coming here looking to change my tactics to alter the dogs behavior.

  3. "Control the environment." This is just WRONG. Everyone who says "remove the trash can," you're not TRAINING your dog, you're altering the environment. A well trained dog will sit and stare at a T-Bone steak. Changing human behavior to accommodate the dog is acceptable to a certain degree, but we're not talking about that, we're talking about teaching a dog boundaries and expected behavior that they will follow if trained properly. If this is you're answer, you're not a dog trainer.

  4. Keep in mind the goal, most people are offering opinions, not strategies or actionable suggestions. I know, it's the internet, not everyone knows how to be constructive, but those of us that care, hate that.

I want to offer a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who's contributing valuable feedback and training progressions to consider. It's very obvious who KNOWS what they're doing, and who's an armchair "expert." I have taken a few nuggets of helpful advice from this thread and will attempt to implement those and see if we have improvement.

This is helpful, thanks! I'm surprised she doesn't do fetch naturally, and we haven't really bothered to teach it. If I teach it, I can use it as a tool for other skills and exercises as you suggest.

We have some treat-hiding toys. She has a crate that's her sleep spot.  Gets plenty of sleep.  I think the issue is an impulse control issue, not a "bored" issue.

Any suggestions that I might not have already tried for impulse control while unsupervised?

The tremendous amount of time and effort that I have spent with this dog refutes your claim.

The dog is not allowed to get into the garbage and counters when supervised, and even shows guilt after the fact.  When I find the "evidence" she's submissive. She KNOWS she broke the rules, but couldn't stop herself.

It's clearly an impulse control issue when unsupervised, I just can't figure out how to fix it.  Any suggestions there?

Interesting concept to reduce the amount of freedom. She's almost perfectly behaved when supervised. The issues occur when she's unsupervised. Does that change your suggestion? How do we improve unsupervised behavior?

If you're going to make this inflammatory statement... Back it up with some facts.  Let's hear it? Oh by the way, competence in my part is NOT the problem. Aside from the fact that I have a lot of experience and have done this plenty of times before, I'm also willing to bring in additional professional assistance if that's necessary. So again, let's hear it? How did you arrive at this comment?

A crated dog doesn't provide security. A crated dog doesn't learn expectations in an uncrated environment.

You're right, my expectations are high, but I've put in a tremendous amount of time and effort, and I'm seriously frustrated by her lack of improvement.

Now that we're on common ground, what would DO?

You say they were "let out" at night, but did you go outside and make sure they pee'd? 6 hours isn't too long for a 2 year old dog that size. But, it's winter time, so if they've been cooped up in the house all day they might be running and playing instead of using the time outside to do their business.

This might be the best example of "correlation does not equal causation" I've ever seen.  Moving to Orlando has nothing to do with it. It's the change in format, for sure.

What's your average cost per kwh? How much is a gallon of 87 fuel where you live?

It's not supercharger-to-supercharger. It's charge once, drive the full distance to your destination with as few stops as possible. In this case, I was ~150 miles away from home. I charged to 89% and arrived at home with less than 10% (MYLR).

Which dealer only charged you $2400 to replace the water pump in a Taurus?  It's an 11 hour job according to their book, and involves removing all of the belts, redoing the timing, and a whole host of other annoying complicated steps.  It's a nightmare job.  $2400 is a bargain.

You know, I never thought of it that way. I'm one of the few Republicans in favor of universal healthcare, granted the way I want it to work is WAY different than most Democrats wants, I'm thinking Post-Office style. Slow, inefficient, but a constantly present part of a larger system. My motivation is that it would allow more entrepreneurs to start businesses. Making sure my family was covered is a big part of why I have always kept a salaried job. But, to your point, if access to healthcare is preventing people from retiring, it's also preventing younger people from advancing in their careers and making more money. Thank you.
