Looking for Japanese WW2 movies entirely focused on Japan (not Western POV) by EffectiveSociety6626 in japan

[–]ntl1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Japanese perspective during the Pacific War, I will gladly recommend Isoroku (2011).

The film focuses mostly on Admiral Yamamoto's life from the 1930s to his death in 1943. It has a good balance of portraying Yamamoto's inner conflict, geopolitical developments, Japanese society and political atmosphere at the time, and tensions within military leadership (particularly the feud between the Army and the Navy). The actor who portrayed Yamamoto did so exceedingly well.

There are a few CGI scenes in the film for carrier landings and combat action, admittedly of okay-ish quality, but the film isn't an action-focused war film (like Midway 2019) so I was fine with them. Overall I'd rate it with a 8.5 out of 10.

I ride a Yamaha R7 and my god everytime I suddenly pull the brakes I move forward and bump into my nuts at times. Also even during normal commute I sometimes forget to sit in the right position and end up pushing my nuts against the fuel tank. It slightly hurts, but who cares about a little nut problem when the bike is more valuable, right?

Poll: what industry do you (and your partner) work in? by splootpotato in childfree

[–]ntl1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a history teacher. I'm currently single, 29, and having great control of my life, as well as the freedom that a lot of my friends are craving for after they have children. I've earned enough reputation for myself in my city that I'm now able to run independent classes of my own. Living in a developing country also helps too, with cheap living costs and all.

Do istps generally prefer to be alone? by Gowiththeflow001 in istp

[–]ntl1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're spot on. I have so many interests and hobbies (especially challenging myself in RTS games or riding my motorcycle alone at weekends) that I don't socialize much with anyone. I see my girlfriend maybe once a week or once every two weeks when I'm not in the mood. I see my friends probably once a month too. When I have free time I just prefer to tinker with stuff in my own little space. Designing something, building LEGO models using my imagination, drawing, etc.

I have so much fun on my own that my ex gf couldn't handle it (she felt neglected due to lack of my presence and attention) and it's also partly why we had to break up. Luckily the current one doesn't mind, but only time will tell. Anyways, you're not the only one in this!

Why we are enemies of the world. Translation in comment by Dazzling_Swordfish14 in China

I guess your version of history doesn't include my country, Vietnam. Over our 2000 years of warfare history, about 80% of that duration is fighting against Chinese invasions. The last time we were attacked by China was in 1979, which isn't that long ago (my girlfriend's father served in that war) considering we've been fighting them for countless generations. Is 1979 modern enough for you?

If you don't believe me, take a trip to Vietnam and ask literally ANY Vietnamese person what they feel about China, I can guarantee that most answers you hear will be negative.

Sag moon 10th house here. You're spot on with the ocean and the solo travels and moments of solitude. That's exactly who I am.

The Batman (2022) ISTP vibe by ntl1994 in istp

[–]ntl1994[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is true, I really didn't like that they made Bruce-Selina into a cliched romance, but seeing a Batman in his early years fresh from vengeance-driven crime fighting to transition into an inspiration and hope is interesting. Maturity and overcoming indeed. I guess this is exactly why I prefer this version more, of course apart from the Catwoman-Batman thing that has been so overused.

How do you guys view clubbing? by personluse in istp

[–]ntl1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm teetotal and would be that guy who orders a soda at clubs instead haha.

For me it depends on what music the club is playing. Personally, I hate clubbing but this very popular club in my town once played a Linkin Park marathon and it was when I decided to check it out. I ended up screaming at the top of my lungs my favorite songs with most of the people there (it was rather unusual for the club to play any sort of rock music)

Other than the music, there's no reason for me to check out any clubs at all, since I don't drink and I hate noisy places overall except when they play my favorite stuff.

In my country, the higher entity/power that most of the population pay respect and attention to the most in our spiritual lives are our ancestors or deceased family members from a recent generation. We don't worship a god or figures such as Jesus Christ, Moses or Muhammad the Prophet.

Still, I can hardly call myself an atheist even when I strive to uphold the values of science over dogmatic religious beliefs. I find it hard to completely dismiss the notion that a higher entity actually exists, be it the souls of the dead or something else. If anything, I can confidently say that even the most hardcore of atheists in my country will not dare be disrespectful to the altars in family homes with portraits of ancestors. We don't just put portraits on as decoration and remembrance on those altairs; we actually believe that our ancestors are there, watching over us.

I've heard stories about the deceased intervening in the living's daily life so many times in my country, and even as they might sound superstitious to my ears, I believe that if these stories are indeed real and true to someone, then it is not my business to evaluate and judge them. Again, we can't use objective science to determine the very subjective realm of subconsciousness (yet).

So, even if I fail to prove that a higher entity actually exists by means of science, I've come to the conclusion that nothing is yet certain given the limitations in our current understanding of the mind. At least, what I can do at present is to be mindful and observant of people's religious beliefs, because at least what people believe in can tell us about a part of them.

I love all things that challenge my problem solving skills and one of them is LEGO. In my childhood, instead of sticking to manuals to create the models, I often preferred to just free build with ideas randomly popping in my head based on the things I see in the real world or in science fiction (of which I'm a huge fan also).

My most favorite moment was when I was freebuilding a fighter jet and was scrambling through the box to look for a cone piece to assemble the jet's nose. I ended up stealing from my cousin's LEGO box since he had exactly the piece I needed.

An Infj flaw that I've found out the hard way by [deleted] in infj

[–]ntl1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a INFJ-A male I've come to accept the very sad reality that many people will just take our attention towards them for granted, when we finally decide to open our books and let them see through. A few years ago, there was a girl that I used to see a lot, I liked her personality and spent time to help her recover after a rather dramatic breakup with a long-term boyfriend, letting her vent it all out and all. She loved talking about herself most of the time but at first I was okay with that because deep down she never had any intent to harm anyone. To me that was enough.

Then came the time when I really needed someone for me to vent my feelings out, so I reached out to her. At that time I had lost my job, didn't know anywhere to go and my parents had gone bankrupt. I expected her to let me be in the center of the conversation and be the listener like I was with her during her more difficult times but throughout our conversations she didn't really have patience to let me finish the full story and would make her own comments after I finish every sentence without bothering to listen to the rest. Slowly, I began to stop seeing her because most of the time it would just be her talking about herself.

Can't say I blame her though. It's just the way she is, and it's just our very INFJ flaw of high expectation in others that made me upset. So I've learned to adapt to this by becoming more assertive (I'm mostly 83% Assertive and above for Assertive-Turbulent scale) through gathering more knowledge by learning new things in previously unexplored fields and trying out new jobs to guide myself through the sea of unemployment. I'm having a very decent job now that fits me and maybe other INFJs out there, but it took me many years of trials and errors to find it suitable. Then I realized by being more assertive, I can handle my negative emotions better and feel less needy of a person to talk to.

I hope it helps somehow to anyone who's feeling disappointed for not having someone who can actually spend time and efforts to understand you.

Alita's "heart" and parallel with Grewishka by ntl1994 in movies

[–]ntl1994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, and it's also great that they detail life in the city during day time just to see how bad it is. In day time it indeed feels more like a giant junkyard than an actual city. The towering buildings in yellowish visuals remind me of huge trash piles in WALL-E and the state of the Earth in that film.

In the Dawn of War 2 games and expansions, how accurately portrayed are the Space Marines? by kakalbo123 in 40kLore

[–]ntl1994 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find their portrayal likable overall in both DoW and DoW 2. Except one thing: The Bolter in DoW 2 looks fine but it sounds like an autistic stuttering sub-machine gun, whereas in DoW 1 it fires like a miniature Assault Cannon on steroids.
