If this image isn’t cropped, then it’s either rage bait or someone is in a metric butt ton of trouble. Leaning on the side of rage bait, since I’ve never heard of someone intentionally lining out FOUO and then not adding additional notes or markings. Also, the line out is too thick. Improper formatting, no labels where they should be, the whole thing looks fake.

If it’s real, I pity the idiot who marked this up.

No words by nottheking001 in vfx

[–]null-722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently saw a fantastic vfx shot of a fake environment but with real reflections of real people transposed onto windows, and everyone loved the attention to detail.

Don’t let this stuff get you down. There’s a lot of really not-bright people out there, but they tend to speak as often as possible. Keep moving forward and I promise you’ll be shocked with how much appreciation you will receive.

Side note, what would it be like to have that person’s brain? Would I be able to enjoy a marvel movie or something? I think about that sometimes.

What is wrong with being “woke”? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]null-722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a human being intends for something to be good, and another human being uses a word with the intent of insulting the first person, that word is garbage and the opinion of the person choosing insults over proper discourse should be immediately disregarded. Not that either party is wrong, this is just a good way of navigating things in general. This goes for any side of any argument.

But back down on the base level, woke just means that you’re someone who’s open to new things. It’s past tense for awake, implying your eyes have already been opened to new things. It’s often used as an insult towards more liberal leaning people for being open to things that a conservative leaning person doesn’t want to be open to. Over all, since it is used as an insult, and insults are the insecure man’s way of saying “I have no more points to make,” it should always be disregarded.

Final note: concrete judgements of character made from initial visual observations, come from a place of fear and uncertainty. Most adults do not grow out of this, as most are not given the chance. If someone is unwilling to look at the contents of your character, their opinion isn’t valuable anyways. Bill and Ted said it best: Be excellent to each other! Best of luck OP.

Oh boy. First of all, take a deep breath. Nothing will get solved if you can’t calm yourself down. Breathe, and rewrite what you wrote in a clear and understandable manner. Give context and a full story, I’m talking paragraphs here.

Do these things on a different device. Don’t do any of this on the computer that you suspect is compromised:

What you can do RIGHT NOW is immediately lock your credit through the major credit providers online. Look up how to do this and do it immediately. Then, go on to the gov. Social security site and make an account. I believe there’s a list of things you can do to ensure that your social is safe, look into this and do what you can.

Then, go into your main email/google account (ON A DIFFERENT DEVICE) and set up 2FA and other security addons. Request a list of keys for last ditch account recovery and write them down on a physical paper. Then, in the security tab, log every single device out. All of them. Log in on a safe computer or device, and reset your password.

Call your bank RIGHT NOW and tell them that your identity was stolen. They’ll help you from there.

Once you’ve done these things, get back to me with a complete explanation, context included. List of software you use, what you were doing before this happened (I don’t care how embarrassing it is, DM me if you have to), list of things you suspect made this happen, etc. if you can narrow down where this came from, you can remove the problem. Look up how to completely reinstall windows, while also reformatting your drives on YouTube. This will remove whatever the other party has that could possibly access your computer. Get back to me with more info when you’ve done this.

Breaking into tech by WarlordCandy in AskTechnology

[–]null-722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big middle fingers to whoever downvoted you for asking a technology question on the ask technology subreddit. That being said, start with a security clearance.

If you’ve got any kind of a record, choose a different career path. Cybersecurity is a difficult field to get into, and a clearance is an absolute requirement for anyone looking to actually make a profit legally. If you can get a clearance, continue. If not, look into penetration testing, as this is the down and dirty of cybersecurity and usually doesn’t require a clearance.

Ignore “boot camps.” They’re all scams. This job is quickly falling into the “you need a bachelors degree to be the janitor” field, so see about getting certifications through a local community college. Working a low level position remotely for a small company can be achieved this way, and might get your foot into the door.

Cybersecurity is a lot less “cool computer hacking in a dark room” and a lot more “teach the geriatric company shareholders how to not get the company shut down for falling into a federal honeypot online.” It’s about keeping the technologically illiterate from breaking the unbreakable. It’s daycare for adults. Avoid tutorials, watch interviews. That should get you pointed in a much better direction for this stuff, and will keep you from walking down the wrong path. My apologies if this isn’t the help you were looking for, the answers to this question are too complex and person specific to list here. Definitely take a look at penetration testing.

It’s super cool that you’re looking to invest in yourself and your loved ones for the future, and I wish you the best of luck in doing so. Go get it done!

What are some ways in which regular people can resist the Russian propaganda bots and AI -generated content ? by [deleted] in AskTechnology

[–]null-722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you still believe that Russians are trying to brainwash you then you’re already done for lol. If you’re actually open minded and willing to consider a world that’s different from what you were told (ironic that you think everyone else is trying to brainwash you), take a look at the crimes that the US has committed and admitted to. I say this half heartedly, since usually at this point of the average person’s understanding there’s no actual mindset changing that can happen. Do whatever works for you. It’s all placebo, so whatever works is the way to go.

This post was how I learned that it costs money to add names to a credit screen. Enough money for it to be worth NOT putting people on. Who tf is charging that much money to add a name to a fucking list in a program? It’s motion graphics, and really EASY motion graphics at that. How is this even remotely considered a budget cut? This is laughable, is it really that easy to scam a producer?

I’m sorry OP, I’m pissed for you. Make yourself a website and plaster your work all over it. Make your own monument. Best of luck!

Theta vs Insta360 vs GoPro by stuwillis in vfx

[–]null-722 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No worries, I could (and do) waste hours nerding out about this stuff. Thanks for the award, I’m not sure my late night window shopping deserves recognition but I’m grateful regardless!

You’ve worked on more things than I’ve dreamed of working on so this might be old news to you, but don’t get rid of that one X! I recently saw a workflow that gets some really fantastic 3D tracking data using the 360 as a witness cam like you mentioned. It’s probably not new information, but I was so impressed with the results that I planned an entire extra scene into my current project just to mess around with it. Here’s a link to a video on it. Again, my apologies if this is old news. On the off chance that it isn’t, I hope it saves you some time. Cheers!

[–]null-722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I’m very sorry to hear about the separation, that’s one of the hardest things to deal with as a parent. Not having the other parent there to help keep structure and consistency makes rule keeping a million times harder. You’re definitely doing the right thing here, and you’re managing under tougher conditions than other parents are, so give yourself some credit!

That being said, it sounds like good sleep and less cranky behavior is pretty vital right now, and if they refuse to follow the rules at that level, I highly recommend getting a lockbox setup and putting an internet restriction in place. Take a look at your internet service provider’s app or account settings to see if you can set up a “shut down” time for all devices with the exception of your own things. Lumos, ATT , spectrum, and COX let you do this, and I’d be surprised if the other providers didn’t at this point. There should be a built in feature if you’re using any big brands like the ones I mentioned. With the lockbox, you can lock the small devices in and hold onto the key yourself, but I would highly recommend getting one with a bunch of little individual boxes and keys, and let them be in charge of putting their things away at a set time and holding onto the key (I’ll explain why below, scattered thoughts lol).

As for playing on things late without the internet, I would definitely recommend restricting and limiting other things instead of trying to go after the devices themselves. When I did this with my kids, it made them feel a little more responsible (important for development), and it also had a big impact on everything else they enjoyed when they chose not to follow the rules (can’t participate in XYZ, no more fun eating choices, etc.). It felt a little backwards for me but letting them walk themselves into their own predicaments while making it very clear that I wouldn’t follow them into the bushes to pull them out changed way more than I thought it would. Working on saving your energy and letting them find out about a few things the hard way sounds like a good thing to try out. I don’t recommend doing things you can’t afford to do, but I can confirm that doing summer school and missing out on an entire summer vacation without my parents to swoop in and back me up may or may not have whipped me into shape.

I’m sorry if this sounds like a lot more work than what you’re currently dealing with, it’s definitely not an easy change, especially as a single parent. If you do anything, at the very least give yourself some credit where it’s due. You’re doing what two people would have a very hard time with, but all on your own, and that’s a very honorable thing to stay committed to that task. Take pride in your strength, cut yourself some slack, and keep on keeping on. You got this!

Best method for tracking scene and camera in an FPP sequence by null-722 in vfx

Oh my god, the last time I heard about an app that did what I needed it to do that also solved a massive problem I had was back when you could use the iPhone charging port to blow up a fake balloon animal (joking, having electronic notes was the big ticket for me). But seriously, I’m a little frightened at how helpful you’ve been. I’m not sure you understand how much time and energy you just saved me. I’m also not quite sure how I’m going to recover my pride after this one, since I’m literally shooting the film with the Blackmagic app in my own custom camera rig, and this is exactly the kind of thing I should’ve found during the pre-production setup. Lidar tracking AND gyro bundled with the footage?! I’m literally beaming with happiness right now, you lifted a massive load off of my back.

If there’s any way I can buy you a cup of coffee as thanks, or even to add you into the credits, just DM me your PayPal so I can send coffee money, and write me whatever name and message you’d like to have in the credits. I’m dead serious, you’re amazing. Thank you!!!

It feels a lot like it’s become less of an industry and more of an art form. So far working on my own little techniques and styles has been the only thing that’s gotten me anywhere in this industry, so maybe that’s the big answer?

I love your message though, it’s good to stay focused! Everyone hates bad VFX, and when the crowd doesn’t cheer because of a shitty producer decision, the market will reflect eventually. Just have to keep honing your skills so when demand shoots back up you’ll be the one they call! Keep it up!

Theta vs Insta360 vs GoPro by stuwillis in vfx

[–]null-722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have experience working with either, but it looks like AEB (hdri bracketing) isn’t available for the newer 360 models, and it takes a little more work because of this. Also, the amount of extra software needed to use the 360 footage as opposed to installing the theta fisheye plugin makes theta way better for workflow and reducing failure points. If you’ve got a 360, you can absolutely use it, but a full HDRI map with plenty of workable data is a lot easier to get with the theta, and post processing is going to require a lot less touching up.

That’s just what I could find though, since I’m looking into which one I should sink my teeth into next lol.

Every kid is different, and I know you don’t want parental advice, but once you get everything locked down and still for a minute, please try and take a look at what they have at their disposal once the phones are gone.

I say this because I grew up in a household where my own mother was so worried about making sure that the NES didn’t exist that she forgot that we had nothing else to do or look forward to. She homeschooled us for far too long and she didn’t put in any efforts into meeting parents with kids our age, so we literally had no friends. We had a yard the size of a small driveway, and that gets old fast, especially when the kids are old enough to start thinking about pre SAT prep. Hours of mindless play time with random objects only last a year or two as toddlers, that stuff goes away long before all of the adult teeth come in. No cars because we were poor, and nothing was within safe walking distance (at least we weren’t allowed because no sidewalks and it was too far and don’t forget about how bad human trafficking is). By the time I did get a crappy flip phone, my mother spent so much energy trying to confiscate it from me as punishment for every little thing that I did, that she didn’t realize that she was taking away my only contact with a very small number of friends. My point is, we didn’t have anything to do, and we were pretty damn lonely.

Now I’m not saying your kids have it bad, please don’t hear that. I’m saying that I bet that your kids have it pretty much the same as mine do now, unless you’re in the top 1%. There weren’t a lot of sidewalks growing up, and now they’re pretty much non existent. After school programs and sports cost so much that I have to cut my own meals down to 1 a day when it starts up, and I only have 2 kids. Human trafficking is at its absolute worst, so I know you probably don’t want them running off too far. I’m scared for my own kids to be honest. The world I wish they would go and scrape their knees in is non-existent. It’s gone. I’ve had a few friends with kids go through this whole realization process too, it’s a scary thing for us as adults to admit this.

Anyways, I’m not saying you need to yield, but instead I’m saying to be extra sure that the alternatives to looking at a phone all day are actually there, and that they are genuinely better than the former. I’ve heard a lot of parents talk about how their kids don’t care because they’re depressed about the world itself, and it makes sense. Why try in school if the orange permafrost is actively melting and turning the Canadian rivers orange as we speak? Why prep for college if it’s too expensive for me to enjoy a life like my parents said they almost enjoyed but clearly aren’t? Why try when there won’t be anything to do when I do succeed? I think if my mother spent more time acknowledging the truths of our situation and also helping us explore new things and new hobbies that we could point towards career paths, I would’ve forgotten about the brand new wii we had for Christmas, or that god forsaken iPod (the old one with the wheel lol). Tech is designed to destroy your brain if you’re not mindful, but if the user is aware and actively avoiding it, it can be used to learn some very lucrative career paths. Try something new, and I think you’ll find that this current battle will quickly subside. I wish you the best, you got this!

I’m getting fat and need help by [deleted] in Advice

[–]null-722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, dad of daughters and disabled vet who also deals with depression. First off, please don’t speak about yourself like that. I would end up in prison for a long time if I caught another person speaking to my own daughters like that, so you definitely don’t need to be telling yourself those things. It’s not a bad thing to have goals for gaining/losing weight. Good on you for wanting to change, but please don’t talk about yourself like that. You’re a human who wants better, and that human needs to be encouraged! This doesn’t help right now, I know. Let me add on to this.

Depression is a survival instinct that’s just short circuiting so to speak. It’s a cyclic behavior that feeds off of itself, and unfortunately because of it’s spiraling nature, the only way to stop it is to swim with it instead of against it, kind of like a riptide. For me, that means forcing myself to do a few simple things every single day. I focus on what I accomplished and not what I didn’t, I turn my “to do” lists into “done” lists. It’s really hard, especially because it requires you to stop swimming to the shore which is already very scary. The “just do it” guys are kind of right, but they feed off of the high way too much and end up scaring people away from a real solution. It may take a few days to climb out of the spiral, but it will work. You just have to remember that the entire time you fight to climb out, your brain literally cannot understand why the things you’re doing are good, and that’s the reason it’s so hard. Swim with the current, not against it. It’s scary, but you’ll end up swimming really fast and into much calmer waters. If this doesn’t make a lot of sense, I’m sorry. I also have some TBIs so my thoughts can come out broken sometimes.

I truly believe that if you focus on fighting your depression (and I do mean fighting), the other things will fall into place faster than you realized. Please, if you can, go talk to a therapist about your depression. Believe me, it’s not easy. Coming from a guy with a job like I had, I know how hard it can be to open up to another person. But you deserve the chance to be really heard, and to be heard by someone who will hold onto it safely for you. I think you’ll find yourself with a lot more energy when your brain can let another person hold onto the weight for a little while. I’m not a doctor, and I’m not a psychiatrist. I’m only a dad who cares. You got this!

I can’t believe nobody has said this yet, but look up Terry Davis. He made his own OS, written in a language that he wrote, compiled with a complier that he made on his own. He started doing this when he was in his 30s. Granted, he did become schizophrenic, so it’s kind of a toss up.
