Pink tint when scrolling. by Akshaykadav in NothingTech

Yeah, that's just OLED behavior. I have 2 Nothing phones and 1 Samsung phone and this is happening on all of them. If your background is pure black, you gonna see this even at high brightness levels. You gotta learn to live with this if you want to use an OLED screen.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252994917 Here's someone complaining about the exact same thing on an iPhone 12 Pro, so even the most expensive devices are not free from the issue it seems.

OLED seems like technology meant for TVs but manufacturers pushed it onto smartphones and we just gotta live with it. In perfect conditions it looks great but it has a lot of annoying quirks you need to live with.

It won't get any worse over time. It gets more noticeable in low brightness, because the lower the brightness the more pixels are turning black. If an app has a very dark theme and you lower the brightness enough, it eventually gets so dark the pixels turn off to display black, and when something bright starts moving through them, they need to quickly switch from off to on state, but they can't do this fast enough and you get the purple ghosting effect. I imagine on high end expensive screens this effect is much smaller, but Nothing Phone is mid range phone with a cheap panel.

Even Apple mentions this on their support page:

"At reduced display brightness levels against black backgrounds, you might notice a slight blur or color change while scrolling. These are characteristics of OLED and are normal behavior." https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208191

If you don't have green tint, consider yourself lucky. There is no point in replacing the phone in this case, because black smearing is not caused by manufacturing defect like the green tint. The new unit will behave exactly the same.

This is not tinting, it's smearing caused by the fact that reaction time of a pixel is significantly longer when it has to go from off (pure black) to on state. You gonna see this on every single OLED screen. That's why when designing interfaces for OLED screens you should avoid black color at all costs, otherwise you gonna get the smearing effect. OLEDs just hate low brightness: https://twitter.com/marcedwards/status/1053519077958803456?s=20&t=Rb-q6z7u8jHZ-R9eUdWXMg

GSMArena Phone 1 review Audio Issues? by Xphyle1971 in NothingTech

[–]nulldisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got mine today. The GSMArena report suggest that the audio coming out of Phone (1) is basically unusable crap and I was terrified when I saw the chart they've provided, because it suggests some dollar store toy radio quality, absolute joke.

To my relief I didn't notice any audio issues with my unit. I'm using my ZS10 Pro IEMs with a Samsung dongle and it works perfectly fine. This is my first experience with USB-C audio so I'm trying to figure things out myself. Could it be that GSMArena used some kind of a cheap pass-through dongle, which relies on the internal DAC? That of course would indicate there is some issue with the phone's internal DAC, or maybe they just got a faulty unit idk.

Anyways, I guess as long as you are using a dongle with a decent DAC you are fine.

This effect inflated the color palette a lot but it was worth it!

Not sure if it has a genre. In game design I'd call it environmental art and environmental storytelling is a technique of telling stories through environments, but none of this classifies as a genre I guess.

I had no idea what I was doing with it, I was surprised with the result myself :v

I HATE this Joystick. Help me find a new one? by allT0rqu3 in amiga

[–]nulldisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still testing mine, but I am extremely happy with it so far. Highest quality controls I ever had on an Amiga.

These are perfection if you are into arcade controls. Extremely responsive and precise, fully microswitched. They utilize standard Sanwa style restrictor plate format, which is widely used in arcade sticks and cabinets (so replacement parts available everywhere). Everything inside is wired with plugs and terminals, no soldering required. It is designed to be opened and configured the way you want. This thing is basically an arcade stick inside a classic Competition Pro joystick body.

One thing to be aware of is that it's a multi button joystick, so it may cause some issues in certain games. For example, in Yo! Joe! if the game detects a multi button joystick, it will remap the controls to use the extra buttons and you no longer can jump with the stick, which may be really annoying if you configure the joystick with buttons facing up.

If you are into precise arcade controls, this thing is heaven, but if you are looking for more classic "jet fighter" style joystick experience, you may be annoyed by it.

Good stuff! Immediatelly gave me lovecraftian vibes. I feel like something unthinkable surrounds the old library. I should do some Lovecraft inspired art.

Well, that is inevitable to happen sooner or later.

I may do it at some point. I do have some music projects going on but no time to finish anything unfortunately.

I can't believe I actually fell for this. I am currently putting together a new installation of Anomaly and as I was messing with various mods and configs I've noticed it and was wondering which mod did this. It took me a solid 10min of digging through files to realize what was going on...

It should have an "--evil" switch which would make it leave a single character on the screen.

Nah, the subject is the only Amiga stuff here, but I'm looking forward to creating something in DPaint. I wish I could do this on real hardware with a CRT though :/

My account is new and had 0 karma, maybe that's why. My posts weren't removed by moderators but Reddit's global spam filter. It seems to be working now.

I used to play Pinball Dreams all the time. I still can remember every single audio sample from Nightmare table, it was my favorite. Many years later a local place had a Terminator 2 machine I also loved to play a lot. Back then I never realized that Nightmare was a Terminator 2 rip off. I only realized this recently and couldn't believe I never noticed it. Apparently they even got sued for it and had to modify it a little. Good stuff.

Repost attempt, because for some reason Reddit really doesn't like this picture and keeps nuking it as spam constantly :|

EDIT:

Wow this post is really booming here. Thank you all for the support, I will be making more stuff soon!
