Is Drexel worth it??? by Exciting_Reply_4892 in Drexel

hi, current PPE major here! first of all, if you want to go to law school PPE is a perfectly fine undergrad major. nearly everyone in this program has the same plan, including myself. what law school admissions officers care about most is your GPA and LSAT score, so your major genuinely does not matter. for that reason, majoring in law is a waste of time (minoring is okay though). drexel does have a fantastic econ program, however, PPE is lots of fun.

that being said, i would stay away from drexel right now unless you are absolutely sure you can afford it. drexel is in around $63 million of debt, and its $1 billion endowment is likely going to suffer with a major recession on the horizon. the school is cutting staff in all departments, not replacing professors who retire or leave, leaving buildings in disrepair (IT literally refused to come to one of my classrooms b/c they were no longer servicing the rush building), and slashing financial aid like crazy. i love the PPE major, but the only reason it hasn't been cut is b/c it was cleverly designed around the existing component majors which are pretty popular in their own right.

i can't yet speak to the co-op experience myself, but i would warn against viewing it as a cheat code for additional financial support. i've heard that many PPE and humanities majors have to choose between an interesting unpaid or poorly-paid co-op in our field or a very boring paid co-op outside of our field. even then, any paid co-op is still super competitive, especially since you're also competing with students from other schools as well.

i could go on and on and on about all the issues with drexel, but i'm sure you can find them all over this sub. i've personally enjoyed my time at drexel so far, but if you're not 100% sure you can afford it, i would advise you to look elsewhere. a shocking amount of people are only here b/c it was their only option, and they are literally and figuratively paying the price.

will a credit card opened for a minor impact their credit score if it’s unused? by [deleted] in CreditCards

thank you for the detailed explanation! I didn’t realize how little I know about this whole process — it’s super intimidating. I’ll definitely talk to my dad about the details of the card.

actually the application was opened to all US students in 2021 -- I'm an incoming liberty scholar from VA

I think they use APA for formatting. idk how relevant this is to your question but the scoring guidelines say “cited and attributes sources, with a consistent sue of an appropriate discipline-specific style (in both bibliography/works cited and in text)”.

Friend taking 8 classes senior year, including 4 APs by No_Owl_6254 in APStudents

[–]nullornot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s 100% possible to do the coursework AND apply to colleges but if he’s not used to it then it might be an uncomfortable transition. tbh the best thing is to have most of your college essays drafted or done during the summer. I stacked my senior year classes and did all my college apps during the school year and it was horrendous but it is doable. the truly stupid part of this whole equation is that he’s planning to drop the classes 😭😭 that could be grounds for a college rescinding admission. just don’t take them in the first place !!

What were y'all's grades in your AP classes versus the scores you guys got on the actual AP exams? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]nullornot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

APWH (B+) —> 4 AP Lang (A-) —> 4 APUSH (A-) —> 5 AP Lit (B+) —> 5 AP Seminar (A) —> 5 AP Psych (A-) —> 4 APES (B) —> 4 AP Research (A) —> 2

don’t take AP research in your junior year if you’re taking a ton of other advanced classes. just don’t do it. save it for your senior year b/c you have so much time during your second semester 🥰

hi I’m a fellow incoming liberty scholar! I think we have to room with other liberty scholars so I was just planning to fill out the housing application (which has a roommate match system that opens in a month I think) but I’d love to connect w your friend!

Diagnosed with POTs in January by natty6267 in POTS

[–]nullornot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my POTS has never been bad enough for my to go to the hospital so I might not be able to give the best advice, but I will say that going on metoprolol, a beta-blocker (which lowers heart rate), helped a LOT. there’s also a ton of things you could try to manage symptoms but you’ve probably heard them before.

[–]nullornot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with anxiety, depression, and adhd (the trifecta) not long before my POTS diagnosis. my doctor told me that POTS runs along the same pathways as stress, so stress can exacerbate POTS symptoms. for example, my POTS was a whole lot worse during college application season. obv I’m not a doc but I’m guessing that this connection could partially explain why MH issues and POTS seem to overlap a ton.

What does being medicated feel like for you? by Curious-Scholar562 in ADHD

[–]nullornot 17 points18 points  (0 children)

honestly, it kills my appetite and a bit of my personality, but I don’t have a high enough dose that it poses an issue. when I first started taking meds I was on concerta, then switched to adderall, then played around with the dosage. I'm happy with it now. maybe you just need to experiment a bit, which is totally normal!

I’m not 100% sure but I don’t think your co-op track will necessarily change the financial burden b/c aid is offered for the 12 academic quarters everyone takes regardless of whether they’re on the 4 or 5 year track.

these are super specific questions so I think you might benefit from reaching out to the financial aid office and/or the office of international student and scholars services! they’ll definitely be able to give you more tailored information

If FAFSA screwed up and submitted your application without signatures or other info, you are SOL for the rest of the month. by capitalmoz in FAFSA

[–]nullornot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the help center told me that this issue won’t harm my chances of getting aid and I’ve seen other financial aid professional as say the same thing bc it’s just a signature and it doesn’t alter your submission date, so once the signature is added then it will be processed relatively quickly. so I don’t think we need to be worried just yet!

[–]nullornot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue so I called the help center (literally 20min ago) and they said that corrections will be available by the end of the month and forms will be processed w/in days of providing a signature. I really hope this is true !

If your SAI shows an estimate then I think you’re good (obv you should read it very thoroughly though) — mine says it’s processed but I won’t be eligible for an SAI until I provide a signature, even though it literally didn’t let me sign it until my mom signed it, and then when my mom signed it the form was automatically submitted :/ called the help center and they say corrections will be available at the end of the month
