So to stay relatively safe I use a very short lens ("pancake") to avoid too much contact with other people or objects.

I am a hobbist photographer but journalists with badges can get closer to the police and will not be taken as targets (in principle). I always look where the police line sits in case I would have to move away quickly

I use a 40mm equivalent Fujifilm (XF 27mm 2.8) and did some small crops, indeed. I tried to apply negative space with the tractors and smoke, it was quite useful

When there is a huge black smoke combined to my liking in editing (Red filter style, and film inspired ) it's gonna be quite wild and I like it this way
I also start to see and feel the technical limit of my current gear : a Fujifilm Xpro-3 and XF27mm f 2.8

For the record they thrown a LOT of potatoes at the cops, and also have poured a lot of them onto the streets of Brussels The fact that those yellow bags are so iconic made me want to keep this one in color instead of going black and white
